I need some advice here - a close relative under the age of 18 has a mental health problem (for which bugger all help has been forthcoming over many years) and has needed to be arrested for actions that are a manifestation of this illness. Where can parents get advice about the child's rights and their rights to be consulted etc?

I know that there are some Gransnetters with knowledge in this area and would be grateful for any advice or helplines who might be able to assist in this rather urgent situation.

I've only just seen this thread and can't imagine how I missed it.
I didn't get the usual notification on my personal email about your PM lucky girl so I'm glade I happened to check my in box. There has been a lot of media coverage recently about the difficulties families have in obtaining mental health services for young adults who aren't yet old enough to access adult services. It isn't, of course, any better once they reach 18 and are old enough to access adult services.
A close friend took his 20 year old son to AandE. He'd already spoken to the psychiatric ward who know his son and my friend very well. The ward told him he'd have to present at AandE but that they'd arrange for the young man to be admitted as soon as he arrived.
This didn't happen and my friend was 3 hours in the middle of a busy Friday night, in A and E. His son was having a psychotic episode and had been drinking and taking drugs. He was paranoid and his behaviour frightened some people waiting, especially those with young children. My friend pleaded not to have to wait for triage, explained the psychiatric ward knew they were coming, a bed was ready etc, to no effect. Madness isn't it.
