The New 'Plastic' Money

I like it!

I'm sure I will get used to them but at the moment, I just find them rather strange. ?

They are fine.

Anyone dared to try washing one yet?

I like them. The old ones always seemed grubby.
DH complains that they slip out of his back pocket, I don't mind as long as I'm the one who finds them on the floor!

I personally can't get used to them yet; they feel odd. I read somewhere, but I'm sure it's not true, that someone had rubbed off the whole of one side with a pencil rubber!! .

I bit the bullet and put one through a machine wash at 40c.........it survived perfectly intact!

They are ok I suppose we'll just get used to them.

Could have done with them when I put DH's trousers in the washing machine with forty five pounds in fivers in the back pocket. My best efforts to separate them were not spectacularly successful, but the bank, amazingly, replaced them!

Money is money, but the they look as if they have been churned out on a low grade photocopier and then left in the sun, all blurry and very faded blue/pink

They feel really nasty - small and plasticky - I understand that they are even easier to forge than the last lot! Where's my photocopier?

I've heard that, too - mind you, who went to the trouble of trying that out? And why?

Not at all impressed, they feel quite slimy, . The plastic money in Australia is far better than our new notes.

I like them, I used them whilst in Australia, so I'm used to them as there money is waterproof due to all living by the sea.

I like their size which fits in my purse without folding. As they are plastic, they won't go tatty like the old ones. I'm old enough to remember the old white notes, though few people were well enough off to have a wallet full of those. £5 was riches then! What a change there's been over my lifetime in not only the size but of the buying power of the fiver.

£10 notes are being replaced from next summer, and £20 notes from 2020. Just need the banks to upgrade the ? so that they accept them. On that note, pun intended, more banks need to introduce the machines that take coins and pay them straight into your account, no counting, bagging and weighing involved.

Candlefran they've been using plastic money in NZ for years and my sister tells me it washes beautifully :-) I like it as it feels clean.

I used one of the self service tills the other day in asda I put a £10 in and the change came out, I actually cut my finger on the corner of the plastic £5 when reaching for it!

I really like them, my branch of Barclays have been spewing them out of their machines since their launch, much cleaner than paper money. There have been the odd occasions in the past when our sons were living at home, their jeans got washed with a fiver in the pocket and although the note survived that, it was touch and go till they dried out. These new ones are practical and robust so I imagine going into the washing machine wouldn't impact. I look forward to the tenners following later.

They will last longer, much longer, will not grow grubby like the paper ones. do not tear and look much better. However they are not so easy to handle and separate. Those such as cashiers will have trouble counting them.

I've had one with a tear in it already so the idea that they won't tear isn't true, somebody had managed it. Do you suppose there are loads of people out there testing them?

They're fine, much better than the filthy paper notes we so often got. You'll get used to them Bobbysgirl same as we did when we changed to decimal.

I have read/seen somewhere that although they survive an accidental wash through the machine they do not fare so well when put in the tumble dryer; they shrivel to a minute size!!
