Hi I am a new member and thanks for the add. I did see on here somewhere that you guys were talking about the above. However, now cannot find it. We always get ours on around 5 or 6th of November. Long before the DWP letter arrives. Nothing so far though.

Colleen 10. Glad you have joined us! Just a thought, we are not "guys"!!

That's a bit snooty.

I'm getting used to being referred to as a guy. Quite like it now. grin

Not getting into the shops like I used to, am missing being blessed. When you are knocking on a bit and wear a hat like a tea cosy everyone under 50 blesses you every sentence.?

lemongrove Mon 09-Nov-20 21:31:11

I don’t hate being called ‘guys’ either.

rafichagran Mon 09-Nov-20 21:35:17

I dont mind the reference to you guys either.
Hope you get your allowance soon OP

BlueBelle Mon 09-Nov-20 22:09:37

I m a girl guy and have no problem with being called a guy so speak for yourself ngaio It has become a totally acceptable non gender based way of referring to folks

Colleen10 Mon 09-Nov-20 22:34:42

Thanks Ngaiol. Please don't take offence, only a collective saying.

Hetty58 Mon 09-Nov-20 22:40:21

I like 'folks' but it's just personal preference. They may as well scrap the £10 Christmas bonus for all as it makes little difference. Why not just give it to those onPension Credit?

phoenix. As I understand it the £6 is an allowance so you can deduct it from income before paying tax. The actual financial gain is tiny.
It has nothing at all to do with employers.

It can be claimed for the whole tax year, even if you work from home for just one day. It’s for help with extra expenses, such as heating.
Think ML said it’s £60 for basic rate tax payers, and £120 for higher rate payers.

Some of us are actually guys!!

Juliet27 Tue 10-Nov-20 07:43:09

I much prefer ‘guys’ to ‘ladies’

Pantglas2 Tue 10-Nov-20 19:12:27

I don’t like guys for females, or gals for that matter - shades of jimmy saville (I always knew there was something dodgy about that man)

MrsThreadgoode Tue 10-Nov-20 19:19:07

A lady where I worked many years ago called everyone ‘chaps’ men, women and youngsters.

We had our letters today. Money going to DDs as they need it to afford their heating.

We're all guys in our family and friends. Ignore those who think they speak for all of us, they don't ?

Oldbat1 Tue 10-Nov-20 19:38:36

My letter arrived last week and husband’s letter arrived today.

annsixty Tue 10-Nov-20 20:35:28

In case you don’t know, you get £300 when you are over 80.
You have to be 80 before the qualifying week which is sometime in September.

Jane10 Tue 10-Nov-20 20:40:05

Personally, I prefer to be addressed as madam!

Jaxjacky Tue 10-Nov-20 21:43:39

No objection at all to being a guy...as long as there’s no bonfires around...

Westcoaster Tue 10-Nov-20 21:59:26

We are waiting with baited breath to see if DH will get it. He is not British, never worked here and gets his pension from the EU.
Forms filled in and certification sent off (and returned) but still waiting for their verdict!
He is old enough, and resident full-time in the UK so shouldn't really be a problem ... grin

Charleygirl5 Tue 10-Nov-20 22:24:13

Jane10 I do not like being called madam, mainly because I do not run a brothel.

I have not received my letter yet but no doubt it will arrive shortly.

Yes, DH got more than me and his chair is nearer the fire than mine which seems fair enough.

Callistemon Tue 10-Nov-20 22:43:45

Ps he didn't get £300, he got £200 and I got £100.
A single person over 80 gets £300.

Jane10 Wed 11-Nov-20 07:40:34

Ladies were called madam long before that became a term used for women who ran brothels.

Katek Wed 11-Nov-20 08:28:18

Think the brothel running version is a ‘Madame’ with an ‘e’ ?

Katek Wed 11-Nov-20 08:28:56

Unless you’re French of course !
