I’ve just read the latest prediction from Martin Lewis. He reckons energy bills will rise by a further 65% in October. He was spot on with his April prediction so I expect he’s right with this one too. He knows his stuff!

He says: From Oct, typical energy bills will cost a third of the new state pension, and a bigger proportion of the old one. When will this all endsad.

It’s frightening for young families, I never had central heating until my twenties, but there was the coal fire and an immersion heater. Most people haven’t a chimney or immersion heater. We got used to going to bed cold but had hot water bottles and loads of layers. We were all in the same boat. Tge divide between people will grow bigger. Think a lot of people will choose food over fuel, you can’t have children hungry. Food is a struggle for most people now goodness know how people on very low incomes will manage.

Thanks Chestnut I will follow those instructions. I tried the contact number but it's an automated helpline. I think I can ring during office hours to an 0345 number. The company is SSE.
I have just spoken to a neighbour who says everyone is in the same boat and we will have to shower the Australian way and use a microwave for all our cooking. and wear overcoats in the house

Grammaretto SSE has been migrated to Ovo but still seems to be showing as SSE on the website (part of the Ovo family). A friend of mine with SSE got an e-mail saying 'Welcome to Ovo Energy' so don't know if you have. Says a letter will follow in the post. The e-mail allocated her a new account number with Ovo.

If you ring 0345 070 7373 during the day you should get through to a person if you follow the instructions. I presume your SSE bill is showing the same phone number. You may be caught between the two at the moment. You could try ringing Ovo and quote your new account number if you have one.

I will try the phone tomorrow. I have an account number. Thanks again Chestnut

The standing charge is NOT just about servicing your account. Its compensation for the inefficient companies who went bust and the cost of passing their customers onto other companies. We should not be bailing out bankrupt companies and their customers.

Our deal expired on the 30th May, after a good look round, we’re on the variable rate, for now. I regularly logon to our account and our usage has significantly dropped this year compared with this time last year, we’re doing all we can.
