We also have a household account. We have telephone banking and pay off the credit card each month, specifying the account we want it paid from.

HazelEyes It has to do with how we run our family finances. We separate our individual Mastercard accounts for personal spending from the Visa card, which is for household expenditure and is paid from the household bank account.

Every family has its own way of running their finances in a clear and efficient way, and ours is to use seperate credit card systems for different expeniture.

I have had a credit card for 14 years and I’ve only ever used it to pay my monthly Amazon account bill..

I'm not sure why you particularly want a Visa credit card. I don't think one is better than the other. What matters most are the card features offered by the issuer. I have an M&S credit card which is Mastercard. This can also be paid off with a debit card as and when you wish.

Hazeleyes It is a credit card, specifically a Visa one.

I have one of the new JL mastercards and I can pay it online using my debit card. This means I can pay it from a bank account that is not online.

I would like to be able to do this on a Visa card. I had assumed that this must be possible on other cards, but I cannot find any This feature seems to be the JL accounts USP.

Is it a credit card you want or a bank account?

I can understand only keeping a minimum amount in a current account for security but my bank, Lloyds, pays over 5% interest on balances up to £5000.
A not inconsiderable sum.
Before things went down I was getting teens of pounds each month.
It went down for some time but is up again now.
A dilemma for me.

GSM I am only using it to pay off my JL credit card balance. I otherwise use credit cards. My bank account is not online. I also only keep a month's money in it, so if hacked, there would not be much to take.

J52 although I do clear my balance each month, I like to be able not to, in an exceptional circumstance. I also like to choose when I pay because things like my state pension are paid 4 weekly so go in on different days each month.

I have set up a DD with my to pay off my credit card in full each month, it doesn’t involve on line banking.
It’s a Visa card.

I would just comment that I never use my debit card online. Only a credit card. So easy for hackers to access your bank account.

Despite all the hoo-haa about the changes to the John Lewis credit card I have discovered one real bonus in it.

My bank account is not online. (This is a thought out decision, not because I can't understand it, so is not up for discussion. )

However with the John Lewis card. I get my statement online and when I want to pay I just click on a Debit card option on the statement, fill in my debit card details and the money is promptly moved from my offline current account to John Lewis, just like any other debit card transaction.

John Lewis is a badged Mastercard. I would also like to find a badged Visa card that works in the same way, but every one I have looked at, allows me to pay the statement by debit card, but only via my onlinebank account. requesting my bank account to transfer money to the credit card company using the debit card. I want one that works like the John Lewis one, that I can pay with my debit card through the Visa statement and works like any other debit card transaction.

Has anyone come across one that works like this?
