Coutts - what is the proportion of GN members who ... have an account with Private Banking at Coutts

It sounds like a straightforward, not hypothetical, question but it would require knowing the exact number of posters registered on Gransnet and the number who are willing to admit to having a private account with Coutts to be able to work out a percentage.

I prefer banking with Building Societies rather than banks for ethical reasons.

Unless every GN member gives a truthful reply to the original question it’s impossible to answer. And you could never know if all members had responded, nor whether replies were truthful, so why pose the question? Why don’t you simply ask bluntly if any of us banks with Coutts? Not that you’re likely to get any affirmative replies given that the criteria for holding a Coutts account have recently been well publicised.

Believe it or not, my father used to write me Jersey Coutts cheques for £5.5s to buy a doll or similar toy.

I aim to spend all our money - saves a lot of wondering whether to open a Coutts account or not.

Great idea kitty. Of course my OP was NOT asking about individual accounts - but wondering what the proportion of people in our generation, and GNetters- do have one.

As my dentist used to say 'that is for me to know and for you to wonder'.

But I do imagine the number is VERY small, or non-existent.

I can claim to have had a Coutts account! It was in the late 60's and they had a branch inside the Middlesex Hospital for the doctors and nurses to use. Obviously it was closed down when I left nursing. But I still have the beautiful maroon leather cheque book cover embossed in gold with the three crowns!
