Has everyone received a letter from Dwp regarding WFP?

This morning l received a letter regarding eligibility for the Winter Fuel Payment. l expect "my Dove" will get his tomorrow. If they send every eligible person a letter, what a waste of money. The Government departments know who is " paperless" because you opt in. What is the point of doing that if they still send you paper communications as well. Mind you l didn't get any communication, paper or digital, regarding the change in my pension age when it mattered. No wonder the country is short of money.

Yes, me and my husband got one each. What a waste of money!

Neilspurgeon0 Tue 22-Oct-24 13:27:48

Yes we each got one in the last week, and remarked that if they had given the money that it cost to pay someone to write and a postman to deliver these and the cost of the paper and envelopes to the most destitute elders who had just lost out on WFP they might not have been quite such an uproar, albeit we don’t actually NEED WFP but as usual waste on every side

But how are the DWP able to know who really needed the information and who did not?

As others have said, it would be deemed by some utterly shocking had people who don't know to remain uninformed about who gets it but might be able to claim PC and do so?

Havent got mine yet but expect it any day now when it will be sworn at, ripped up & stuck in the bin!

Nanaeloc Tue 22-Oct-24 15:03:57

Yes! Two separate letters to me and DH to the same address- I agree, what a waste of paper and postage …

Bea65 Tue 22-Oct-24 15:11:28

Rec’d mine today and echo what other posters have said - complete waste of paper and postal costs😡

bikergran Tue 22-Oct-24 15:16:39

Not had one as yet

I am really shocked at the number of uncaring posters on this thread.
The letter contains valuable information which may help thousands of people who can in fact claim the winter fuel payment. Why not give a thought to them? Would you rather they didn’t benefit?
It’s not just about you!
Rant over.

We care so much we'd rather the money spent on the staff required to process this and the postage went to those who just miss out because they're £2 pa over the limit.

Got ours, we are not eligible but we knew that anyway. It did raise awareness of available benefits which many may not know about.

BigBertha1 Tue 22-Oct-24 16:32:09

Yes I have had a letter.

ordinarygirl Tue 22-Oct-24 16:35:56

Yes - had the (pure waste of money )letter stating no heating allowance
I believe the government is still intent on giving a £10 Xmas bonus - it must cost more to process than the benefit.

wendyann23 Tue 22-Oct-24 18:32:25

Think it was a waste of money that could have been put to better use. So much information already about this and adverts re pension credit. Also think the £10 bonus should be abolished, not gone up in years and must cost more to administer than the actual benefit.

I expect it's just programmed into the computerised system so automatic by now.

I have received no communications at all.

georgiejg Tue 22-Oct-24 22:27:06

I received mine a couple of weeks ago. I received the WFP in the past but this letter was addressed to my old name, I remarried 19 yrs ago. Bin. Thought it was a scam.

I got the letter last week too, and thought what a waste! I anyone hasn't seen it on the news by now they must be very out of touch! However it did give detsils of how to apply for pension credit so I guess that is the reason for it.

As for bnotifications about pension age I did get a letter many years ago telling me my retirement age would be 64 .5. I didn't get anything telling me that it was going up again, though I became aware due to watching the news and successive budgets. My retirement age ended up being less than a month before my 66th birthday as I'm a WASPIE and was in the group where the age was being gradually increased. I actually worked beyond the date as I didn't want to retire from lockdown and not get a proper goodbye so I stayed on for an extra 6 weeks until the next half term holiday after we stopped working from home. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to add any extra to my state pension so I took that on time even though I was still working.

Yes me and OH got them within a day of each other, as you say what a complete waste of money, when you cost in the paper, envelopes, printer ink etc it could have been put towards the WFP for us all......
As with quite a few of you, I wasn't told of pension changes either. I just hope that they honour the WASPI compensation, and pay us out straight away, but something niggles me that they will want chapter and verse of our lives !
When you think about it, the DWP know everything about us from being born to dying, so they should put the computers to work on issuing the money to us all pronto, they even know which bank to pay it into as our pensions go into the accounts on a regular basis.

Allira Wed 23-Oct-24 16:25:14

Do we frame them and hang them in the bathroom?
"Sorry it's so cold in here - don't blame me"

mrshat Wed 23-Oct-24 16:52:14

I have but DH hasn't yet!

Margiknot Wed 23-Oct-24 17:17:19

I got the letter a couple of days ago- I do not get qualifying benefits, and by the time I got the letter it would have been much too late to apply for any of the benefits and then qualify for this WFA had I been entitled to them. I could use it to light the fire I suppose?

Sarahr Wed 23-Oct-24 21:55:17

My husband got his letter. It told him he was only eligible if he is in receipt of certain benefits. It also said that you may qualify if you don't get benefits.
I do wonder why people on 3 of the benefits now qualify as I really struggled when I was on my own with my daughter. I was on 3 of the listed benefits then but didn't get a penny to help towards winter heating. My daughter wasn't impressed at having to put on extra layers to keep warm. We survived.

It was put in place, temporarily, because of the huge bills last year.
It was never intended to be a longstanding thing, as far as I know.

The bills have gone up again this year and unit prices for gas went up again by 14% and electricity by 10% on 1st October.

MissAdventure Wed 23-Oct-24 22:45:39

I've not been keeping the slightest bit up to date with news, bills, or anything like that, so I didn't know that, but regardless, I think it's inevitable at some point that the fuel payment would have been taken back.

The government should be tackling the energy companies, I think.
