House insurance quote more than doubled from last year.

I had a claim for storm damage last year which was eventually paid.
Would this be the reason for the huge price hike or have insurance premiums gone up everywhere?
Should I cast around for another quote?

Just received our renewal notice and it's also gone up. We have until the end of August so I'm now trying to get some quotes in the hope we can reduce the cost a little.

Thanks for your input.
I went on Money Supermarket, filled in lots of details (mostly correct AFAIK) and was given just one quote.
It is £1000 lower than SAGA which I was with, and who have more than doubled their quote, but it's with a company I have never heard of.
One Insurance Solution.
Then I noticed I was on a site called confused.com

And I am.

I may try to call SAGA, tell them I've had a lower quote and see if they will lower theirs.

Always compare - never auto renew. Both car and home insurances have (on average) come down from last year’s high.

I have only buildings and dog insurance. I know all insurance companies are a rip off and, in times of catastrophe or heartbreak, will do anything to avoid paying out.

What about your house hold items?

My car insurance is due next month, I’ll be allocating time to consult the comparison sites again, it is tedious though.

I phoned SAGA today and managed to reduce the premium by a few hundred pounds, includinga loyalty discount.
The price hike was because I made a claim. How is that fair?

It works like that with all insurance, if you make a claim they see you as a higher risk so charge more

OK David I realise that but what I said was "is it fair!"
