Hello,

I need to use Power of Attorney for my parents.

Is the paper part the part that says:

Notice of registration of a Lasting Power of Attorney

I have created an online account but have had to request a new activation key.

Many thanks

Good to read further back that you sorted this out, Mel1967.

When I did both powers of attorney I used a solicitor and my daughter and son in law are my attorneys they had to sign paper copies . My solicitor has original but I have copies with all my paperwork at my home. Anything legal I always use a solicitor. I know once signed they had to be registered by a government department in London . Changed my will and did both powers of attorney in 2020 but can't remember what the government department was called. If you did it online I assume you need to contact that department to get paper copies no idea how much it would cost. Think it was £80 to have both registered in 2020.

Have you looked at gov.org to see who to contact. Sorry can't be more help.

We are using our POA for Mum.
All the companies that we have contacted have just needed the online code. Nobody has wanted a paper copy. You can just give the code over the phone and they can access the POA.

You were lucky Pittcity.
When selling a property for a relative earlier this year, my brother had to make a 120 mile journey (each way) to show the original paper documents to an estate agent. They wouldnt accept either a fully legal, signed copy of the POA or even an online code, and he couldn't risk the original paper documents going astray in the post!

Please remember that an LPOA ceases to be valid the moment a person dies, and everything is then governed by the will.
