I'm in Derby now. I lived at St Tudy, then did season work at Boscastle [Mrs Pipers Cream Tea Cafe by the harbour, then Terry Dangers fish and chip shop in Tintagel. I can close my eyes and be in Boscastle, especially doing the walk from The Cobweb car park up the Valency Valley to Minster Church. Haven't been back for a few years. Do they still do 'the broomstick dance' in The Cobweb?

Slightly off topic just to say that we love Boscastle, went back a couple of years ago for the first time since the year of the terrible floods, it`s wonderful, and a great testament to the courage of the people of Boscastle, to see how they`ve rallied and got the village back on it`s feet again. Apart from a couple of things, you`d never know any difference.

Born in London, was in California for 21 years, where I have my Granddaughter, and now live in the Midlands! Will probably move back to California to be closer to my Granddaughter!

As you may have deduced, I'm in West Sussex - born within the sound of Bow Bells, so a genuine Cockney, lived in Staffordshire as a small child, then in London right up until 8 years ago when I decided it was time to leave the Smoke and breathe some clean air. Loving it!

Couldn't find anywhere to specifically say 'hallo' (I feel sure there is somewhere, just haven't spotted it) so I thought I would answer this thread. I am a newbie and come from sunny (!) North Somerset.

glassortwo Thu 21-Jul-11 08:17:16

Hi ElseG nice to see you, if you use active threads you can usually find where we are all hanging out, a couple of favourites are a quiet place in am i being unreasonable and grandads shed is another, hope you manage to track us down.

helshea Thu 21-Jul-11 08:44:57

Hi ElseG I wouldnt worry because wherever you post it will be found, I always look on the "last hour posts" so then at least you know who is online and where they are! Hope this helpls and welcome! smile

Hi. my first time on a forum blush but do I get marks for trying?
What a smashing, diverse lot you are.
I was brought up in St, Ives and went to Penzance Girls' Grammar 1954 [ring any bells Skyesgran?] but now retired and have moved all the way to Hayle !!! Wish I could be in SW France or Burgundy !! [ the dream went pear-shaped ]
There are lots of posts I'd like to reply to but will have to speed up first; this has taken 25 mins. My grand- daughter is here on her lap-top and in the same time has written a 3000 word essay !! Well, so it seems.envy

Be back soon

biggran Sun 31-Jul-11 19:44:24

Congratulations on your first ever post to a forum. There'll be no stopping you now!

For me the dream would be to move to Cornwall! Are we never content with what we have?

greenmossgiel Sun 31-Jul-11 19:52:55

Welcome carolemimi! This is my first ever forum, too. It took me a while to to get into the swing of it, but it's a great place to be! smile

em Sun 31-Jul-11 20:10:05

Welcome carolemimi - sounds as if you'll be a real asset. Get reading and then get posting !

carolemimi Sun 31-Jul-11 20:47:04

Oh, Biggran ... my very first reply! I feel at home already.Thank you.
I know, really, how lucky I am to have spent my life here. It is very beautiful with many pluses but we are so far away from everything and it can be frustrating at times. There are countless plays, museums, operas, ballets exhibitions and shows that I'd love to have experienced in my lifetime but to get out of Cornwall, even for a few days, is so expensive. The train to London with two or three nights accommodation together with the the actual cost of tickets can be a few hundred pounds. So It hasn't happened that often!! I've been lucky over the past few years tho' as my daughter now lives in Hampshire and I seem to be getting more of the best of both worlds. So I'm a lucky duck!!! smile
