How many years have you and yours been married, or together, whichever applies to you? Today is our 48th wedding anniversary, heaven only knows how we`re still together, you don`t get that long for murder, and I`ve come pretty close to committing that at times!

Congratulations numberplease. My DH and I have been together 48 years and married for 43 and we met on a blind date, he was the navigator in a car rally.

We met at a dance at the Carlton ballroom in Rochdale, he asked me to dance and it was a barn dance, and I trod on his foot. That was at the end of November, we were married the following July, and our eldest daughter was born at the beginning of December!

44 years on August 5th. I was 22, so I've been married twice as long as I was single....

Congrats numberplease. It will be 40 years for us on the 31st of this month. I reckon I could have committed double murder and so got rid of his mother as well and still been out by now. I'm sure at times sheer bloody mindedness got us through - I was 16 when we married, he was 22 and no one thought it would last. One person who made the most noise and married just a week before us (hubby's sister) has been through four husbands so far. At least my own brother had the grace recently to say he was wrong about objecting.

43 years in total but as his job required him to be awy from home so much it is probably really only 25 when we count the time we have been together.

He's away at the moment for a couple of days, he may be retired but they wanted him to inspect something in Rotterdam and it means a nice cheque in a month or two and, as the adverts say, every little helps.

Belated congratulations numberplease. DH and I have been married 33 years this October, I was just 21 and he was 22. We met when he was here in Devon visiiting his mum (he lived in London) and we had a long distance 'romance' for 6 months until he moved here. We were married 12 months later.

We've been married 23 years. It's the second time for me. The first lasted 6 years and seemed like an eternity and this one has just flown by. People tutted when we got married too because I was 31 and had a boy of 8 and he was 22. Hey ho - we've never been bothered by the age difference and we have had 3 more children. Sometimes I could kill him and sometimes I love him to distraction and I know he feels the same!

We had our 45th anniversary last week - I came down with some bug and DH held my head while I was throwing my dinner and champagne down the lav in the middle of the night! How's that for marital devotion? Actually, then he came down with it, so the roles were reversed. I expect that's what it's all about really....

We met in '63 and got married in '67 (gets calculator ) so that's 44 years at the end of this month.

harrigran Sun 17-Jul-11 22:33:05

Same here pompa, met 1st July 1963 and married October 1967.

Stansgran Mon 18-Jul-11 15:24:13

Congratulations all of you.42 years tomorrow for us but i bet I won't get anything as exciting as a toad in a jar!

Hattie64 Fri 22-Jul-11 20:26:22

First marriage seven years, he got the itch, and I was fed up with him anyway. Second one nearly 35 years, I think it has just become a 'habit'!!! When I met him he was a dashing 43 years old, now he is just a grumpy old 78, whilst I am a happy busy 64 year old.

mrshat Sat 23-Jul-11 15:45:41

40 on 1st September ......................... shock

ElseG Sat 23-Jul-11 16:14:49

We had our 40th anniversary in February and were planning a good holiday to celebrate. Unfortunately (actually fortunately if I am honest) I had a hip replacement instead so big holiday on the back burner for a bit.

Snap, numberplease we were married 48 years ago today. It doesn't seem that long, but a lot of the guests at that wedding are no longer with us.

numberplease Wed 27-Jul-11 15:19:34

Congratulations Elegran, and to Mr. Elegran as well. The thing about missing guests applies to us as well. I really started to feel old when I recently realised that I only have one relative still alive who`s older than me, my cousin, and he`s 3 years older than me!

Elegran Wed 27-Jul-11 17:51:57

I only have two relatives older than me. One is my fathers little sister, the other my mother's little sister - and she is only 5 years older than me.

pompa Wed 27-Jul-11 19:38:03

44 years on Friday -- will I still remember Friday - I am relying on you Guys to remind me -- PLEASE

Heather Wed 27-Jul-11 21:09:05

pompa, don't leave it until Friday. You must be thinking about it all night, spending tomorrow buying / arranging / plotting / planning and THEN spoiling her rotten on Friday ... and I'm sure she'll spoil you rotten too!

pompa Wed 27-Jul-11 21:32:52

ROFL, I have already splashed out on a card, what more can I do?

glassortwo Wed 27-Jul-11 22:05:41

pompa there will be big trouble if you leave it at a card, get youself out tomorrow and sort it out.
Now do as you are told or there will be more than Mrs P after you grin have you seen how many grans are on here now!!!

pompa Wed 27-Jul-11 22:13:35

We gave up on the present buying thing years ago. IF the weather is good to us, we will head for Aldburgh beach for a picnic, with a cold bottle of wine, French bread etc. and a fresh crab from one of the fishing huts, perfect.

pompa Wed 27-Jul-11 22:18:19

BYT, after reading the fantastic endorsements on Gransnet, I did suggest I bought her a shewee --- she hit me !!! why?
