How many years have you and yours been married, or together, whichever applies to you? Today is our 48th wedding anniversary, heaven only knows how we`re still together, you don`t get that long for murder, and I`ve come pretty close to committing that at times!

Boggles are you sure your calculator is right because we got married October 1971 and it will be our 44th this year, so it's 48 for you I believe.

Greyduster Fri 03-Jul-15 18:35:04

We got married in '66, Boggles - NanKate is right - you can clock up a few more! Well done!

Added up it comes to about 37. I think.

I've only got married twice, once when I was twenty-one and again when I was forty-two so, if DH is being tiresome, I occasionally remind him that my being sixty-three and ready to continue the pattern of marrying every twenty-one years, is getting closer.

It's 50 years for us on Friday 10 July (though it was a Saturday in 1965). We have a family weekend planned to celebrate and be thankful. smile

Gagagran my DD is 50 on Friday so while you were getting married with all that excitement I was in labour with all that entails. She was born at 11:25 PM so you would have been well and truly married by then. Congratulations and have a wonderful weekend.

NanKate Mon 06-Jul-15 16:22:03

Apologies Boggles. Pompa you are for the naughty step. grin

Have a great celebration Gagagran you've earned it.

DH and I managed to clock up 49 years yesterday. We met at the Youth Club in 1963 and were married three years later. Just a couple of kids really.

Congratulations numberplease for sticking it for another year.

Thanks for your good wishes NanKate. It is indeed the big one next year, twice as big as we are both seventy. Goodness knows how that happened. confused

Congrats numberplease.

We've been married for 49 years in March 2016.

Someone knocked at the door. I opened it. there stood a broad shoulders, fit young man, with blue eyes. My first thought was how *soft and kissable his lips looked. He'd come to see someone else. Four of us were house sharing.

We had our first date two months later. At the end of April snow was still thick, well, up to the top of my gum boots. One evening we were supposed to have a date he as late. I found out he couldn't get his car out of the village, so he walked eight miles to see me*. We fed him, but he couldn't stay the night as so he had an early start, or so he said. He walked home, across the snowy fields, with a torch and no moon. estimation.

He usually grins when I tell that story and says, "Love can blow you further than gun powder."

Snowdrop Sun 28-Feb-16 20:15:48

8 years and counting, this time around. The first lasted ..... stops to remember... 30 years before I finally had enough of his philandering ways - took me long enough! hmm

aggie Sun 28-Feb-16 21:27:27

Dear Numberplease - we have been married 48 years and together for 49. I usually reply to people who ask how you stay married for so long that ' you don't talk about divorce'. I liked the quip in last night's The Night Manager: 'it's marriage, not wedded bliss'.

cornergran Mon 29-Feb-16 15:05:37

47 years toorrow. We met at work, married quite quickly. Yes there are irritations, I'm sure I drive him demented some days, but we still love being with each other, just doing simple things gives us great pleasure.

NanSue Mon 29-Feb-16 15:26:06

43 years. 44 in August this year. The wine has helped me through.smile

Thebeeb Mon 29-Feb-16 21:30:12

44 years plus nearly 6 years together before getting married. Met him when I was 16.

Married 30 years ago today. There was snow on the ground, but I didn't feel the cold because I was glowing.

The car we hired to go on our honeymoon broke down on the way to the Lake District and we ended up back in Coventry the next day to collect another car. The whole hire car thing turned into a bit of a saga, but we'll always think of the driver of the recovery vehicle with kindness because he was our hero that weekend. The kindness of strangers...

14 years. 14th January 2002.

We have both entered our ninth decade of life.

I love this question. People who ask it, who don't know us well, usually want to add a few extra figures, make the 1 into 6, or similar. I love the look on their faces.

We were celebrating our 5th anniversary with a weekend away, and we went to the local church. The vicar afterwards asked us how long. I loved the look on his face. You could almost see the cogs turning in his brain. He wanted so much to add a 0 to the 5....
