Gracesmum, I can easily get to Milton Keynes. Do the trains go to Brum from MK? If so I would love to get involved.

Right Brummies (past and present) where to meet? Needs to be accessible by bus pass or easy walk from New Street (or taxi if flush) for those doing public transport. Don't want to depend on cars if I can help it as with the cost of fuel, no longer a cheaper option, especially using Senior Railcard.
All suggestions gratefully received also do we have a consensus on day and date? Don't want to leave anybody out for the sake of a week or so.

End of September or beginning of October is good for me.
I am looking after 4 grandchildren, with help from the other granny, for a few days in October while DS and DiL go off on a jolly. I just asked DS for the dates but he doesn't know of course, so I will wait until I hear from DiL.

'crimson' in another life when I was gainfully self-employed, I often had to sub-contract work out to various tradespersons. People like decorators, carpet fitters, curtain makers and fitters, plumbers - I was an interior decorator/designer. Putting a house/room/showhome/office together required detailed planning - obviously the curtains couldn't be hung before the decorating was done, for instance and I would be very on edge when co-ordinating it all. With one exception - those tradespersons who spoke with a Brummie accent, I knew from experience that I could trust them to turn up on the day appointed; to do a good job; to clean up after themselves and to make me howl with laughter the whole day long. I don't much miss my clients but I do miss my Brummie 'colleagues'.
Sorry girls, I'm digressing again - I'll come to Brum if I can. Only thing is can't do it til October at earliest.

The Museum and Art Gallery is very central; has a beautuful tearooms and, if and if people turn up at varying times they can tootle round the place to kill time. However, as I mentioned before I'm not sure how accesible it is if one has a mobility problem. I'm planning to go there at some point anyway, because I'm desperate to see the place again. Agree about end Sep/Oct.

Yes there are lifts; I actually found myself using a lift at the cineme last week for the first time so I'm getting verey aware of such things. And, as someone who hated shopping malls because I felt they ripped the life and soul out of towns and cities, I'm beginning to realise how much easier they are for people in wheelchairs.

Illbe training it, and am more than happy to taxi share! Or if there are enough round here how about a charabang? Or minibus?

Hi, I have just talked to DiL. She thinks they are away round about 20th October for about 3 or 4 days. So I can assume I will be able to meet in Brum during the first 2 weeks of October.
Does that suit everyone else?

GillieB, I`m in Boston, Lincs, still a fair way from Birmingham, a place I`ve never been to, apart from the airport and NEC, but the train fare is more do-able than to Scotland. If anything energetic is planned though, I`m quite happy to drop out, as I don`t get about all that well.

Energetic - whatever do you mean numberplease? I don't do energetic if I can help it, but would hope to find a lunch or whatever venue easily accessible from station (may need a taxi, if you really can't walk, but maybe a taxi share could be arranged?) How close is Museum/Art gallery, please crimson? Maybe Selfridges restaurant in Bullring would be another posibility?

The beautiful Tearoom at the Museum and Art Gallery is good for coffee, lunch AND tea!! (I've managed two of those on one day but not all three..........YET!!

I don't think it's too far from New St Station but it's a long time since I've been there and distances change as you get older, I find.

It says a 'short walk' on the website.
