Feeling very envious that Scottish Grannies have got themselves organised.
Are there any grannies within striking distance of a Midlands centre who would like to do the same? I am in Milton Keynes but trains to Brum are frequent and fast. Any takers?

jeni Sat 28-Jul-12 18:08:09

I can do Brum, I think!

gracesmum Sat 28-Jul-12 18:16:47

Good that's 2 of us then!!I would prefer September as DD's wedding in August and while I am not actively involved at present - I fear feel I might be nearer the time. Somebody muttered something about making bunting for the reception............shock

End of sept fri or weekend?away on QE till the 19th!

gracesmum Sat 28-Jul-12 18:25:52

End-ish would be fine for me - I seem to be booked to be gran of the year for the first and third weekends while DD and SIL go gallivanting first to New York and then to a wedding in Oxford.

Maniac and or barrow are near me, perhaps we could travel together. If I drive perhaps we could meet outside Brum, otherwise I suppose we could train?

jeni Sat 28-Jul-12 19:15:47

SOUTHWEST LOT! COME ON!
BRUM OR NEAR IS FEASABLE IF WE ALL GET TOGETHER!

I`d dearly love to do one of the two Scottish meets, but the train fares are beyond me, but I could do Birmingham! Latye September or sometime in October would do me fine.

jeni Sat 28-Jul-12 19:57:23

gracesmum you seem to be the organiser! Why don't you pm barrow and maniac?

bookdreamer Sat 28-Jul-12 20:41:45

I live in Kettering so Milton Keynes or Birmingham would be good for me. Also late September good for me.

jeni Sat 28-Jul-12 20:44:35

Brum is sounding good?

Get enough and we could hire the NEC?

eGJ Sat 28-Jul-12 21:08:52

AlisonMA and I met up on Thursday and I'm sure we could both get to Brum. She's away from her computer at the moment, but keep us posted! Late Sept sounds good.

specki4eyes Sat 28-Jul-12 21:42:00

Are we the only ones in South West France flowerfriend?

gracesmum Sat 28-Jul-12 21:52:13

How about either last Sat or Sunday in September? (29th or 30th)
We could meet at one of the nice restaurants by the canal near Symphony Hall perhaps, but I'll be happy to take advice on that.

Grannylin Sat 28-Jul-12 21:58:08

Southwest France specki? Now you are talking, forget Brum! We could do Gransnet autumn wine trip grin

Notsogrand Sat 28-Jul-12 22:05:32

I could get to Birmingham by train...about 3 hours, so do-able in a day. Count me in.

specki4eyes Sat 28-Jul-12 22:06:35

Yes ok but I want to come to Brum; I want to sit for hours on the M6; I want to CHOOSE to take the M6Toll; I want to look at the cut in Smethwick and eat faggots and pays; I want to get lost on Spaghetti and zoom round the underpasses on the inner ring road;I want a balti; I want to go up the escalator in Rackhams and drink coffee on the top floor and don't even get me started on the Pallisades! Oh Brum I miss you so.

gracesmum Sat 28-Jul-12 22:13:20

Oh specki - to sit by the canal basin / wander round the Bull Ring/ and listen to that wonderful accent! I am sorry if I am making you homesick! Brummies are so friendly, I was on King's Heath High Street with DD and the boys en route to music session when an old dear stopped me and said "You look smart!" Later on I was trying to hurry with the buggy while carrying a Costa coffee as we were late and another woman offered to walk with me and carry my coffee as I kept spilling it onto Toby's buggy! That doesn't happen in Milton Keynes alas.

GillieB Sun 29-Jul-12 10:22:19

Numberplease - whereabouts are you? I am sorry you can't get up to the Edinburgh meet - there are several of us in the north east, perhaps at some time we can have a meeting nearer to you. I hope you manage to get to the Birmingham meet up.

crimson Sun 29-Jul-12 11:18:30

If it's a weekday meet up could it be on a Wednesday [my day off]? Strange thing about Brum and it's people is that you have to move away to appreciate it and them. Going back many years ago after my mum had died I felt envelopped by the warmth and kindness of the Brummie people. We never became 'fashionable' did we. But whenever I come across an ex Brummie they're always the same, warm and friendly but with a very dark sense of humour. I even feel nostalgic about Saltley Gas Works confused.

glitabo Sun 29-Jul-12 11:30:37

Milton Keynes is good for me.

Nonu Sun 29-Jul-12 11:39:26

Specki4eyes , I still call it Rackhams , not House of Fraser as it"s now known why don"t they leave well alone ? Remember Marshall and Snelgrove ? there"s posh !! now it"s Primark . Also love the way Newbies call it city centre , it"s Town as any born and raised will tell yousmile

Seeing Father Christmas at Lewis's; and going up on the roof in summer for an ice cream.....
