Feeling very envious that Scottish Grannies have got themselves organised.
Are there any grannies within striking distance of a Midlands centre who would like to do the same? I am in Milton Keynes but trains to Brum are frequent and fast. Any takers?

Typical man! I sometimes wonder what it must be like to know that you have socks etc in the right drawer, that ironed shirts will appear all by themselves in the wardrobe, that food will magically appear at regular intervals, that the loo is self cleaning and that socks mysteriously "walk" from the floor to the washing basket. If anybody knows what that feels like - can they enlighten me? grin

I`ve tried to upload my photo, the best of the two, the one that the nice little Chinaman took, but am having the same problem as Soop, very aggravating.
On the last leg of my journey last night, I thought with relief about the gate in the fence on that side of the station, it leads onto Asda`s car park, so hubby was waiting there to pick me up, save me walking over the footbridge (more steps!!), but when I got off the train the bloomin` gate was locked! So I had a VERY long walk round, because he hadn`t seen me, so was waiting for me to come through the gate. When I got in the car, he said "What are you doing for tea?"!! My reply was "Chippy!"
Seriously though, it was really nice to meet you all, and to be able to put faces to names, although I`m ashamed to say that I can only actually remember 3 of your real names.

Gally's right...I'm going everso slightly potty. CANNOT get the Ooping message to clear the screen and allow uploads. Bags...if you're thinking of commenting on my state of mind, I have one word of advice - RESPECT!

Gally Sun 07-Oct-12 16:01:06

I sounds as if you all had a lovely time yesterday! You'll be lucky to get any photos on Gransnet - soop and I have been trying since last wednesday to upload ours from the Edinburgh meeting angry..C'mon GNHQ - give us a clue grin

So - has anybody posted pics on their profile yet? I'd love to see them as a souvenir of the day - forgot to charge my camera the night before so no point in taking it. Jeni of course has "Midlands Meet-Up - the movie"!!

glitabo Sun 07-Oct-12 13:01:30

Yes it was good to meet everyone. I did not have a camera with me so will those of you did, please post a photo?
Thanks to Jeni I now have a severe case of ipad envy.
The museum was a good place to meet up as we all arrived at different times, but I agree with gracesmum about the advantages of moving on.
Thank you all for your company, especially those like Numberplease who travelled a long way and on their own.
maniac I googled growing old disgracefully. it looks very interesting.

gracesmum Sun 07-Oct-12 12:42:06

I think when we moved on from the Museum to the hotel it gave ua a chance to chat on the way and to "regroup" round the smaller tables. Sorry you had to leave early grannybug but good to meet you and thank you for having your camera at the Museum.

Movedalot Sun 07-Oct-12 11:02:45

Grannybug Great idea. Perhaps then it would help me to remember who is who!

Grannybug Sun 07-Oct-12 10:51:45

It was great to meet everyone and glad you all found somewhere to have a glass or two. What lovely people and yes it would be good to met up again. Perhaps next time we should adopt a speed dating approach and move round the table ( those who not do not have mobility issues) so we can chat to everyone ????
Just an idea as I would have liked to have chatted to everyone who made the effort to attend.
Thanks to Gracesmum for organising the event and glad to read that people arrived home safely .flowerssmile

Barrow Sun 07-Oct-12 09:58:42

Glad to hear everyone got home safely. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and it was lovely to meet everyone. Count me in for the next one!

Movedalot Sun 07-Oct-12 08:55:06

Well I think I live the nearest and I got home after midnight and didn't get to bud until nearly 3 am when I gave in an left the guests still partying downstairs. One of them has beaten me up this morning too!!

Thanks to all for behaving as if we had known each other for years. I'm looking forward to the next one too. Let's make it very early in 2013.

Good news Jeni Rackhams is still going strong as ever, Crimson and I went to check and there was a super paif of crimson high heels in the window!

petallus Sun 07-Oct-12 08:33:43

I'm feeling unusually relaxed and energised this morning. I think yesterday's meet-up has done me a power of good smile

grrrranny Sun 07-Oct-12 08:24:35

What a great day and I am loving reading about the adventures. Can't wait to see the pictures.

JessM Sun 07-Oct-12 08:11:22

Lovely day out and so pleased to get to know you all a bit more. Like starting the day with a colour by numbers book - you have a rough idea what the pictures are, but when you colour it in you can see so much more.
We had an easy trip up from Mk and the 3 of us had previously met for a coffee - but I was still a little anxious - so well done to those who made longer treks alone - quite a big adventure. But it does us good to take these risks and get out of the comfort zone.
Poor little Brummy waiter. He was only about 19. We must have been an intimidating bunch. Good job I didn't do what they do in NZ/OZ and asked for "a glassa Sauve, mate" grin

Oldgreymare Sun 07-Oct-12 07:46:21

I should be having a a lie-in (sp?) after the 'exertions' of yesterday.
Gosh Number you did have a journey and a half, mine was just tedious after Bristol! Pushed the boat out and took a taxi for the final stage, didn't fancy yomping a mile or so in the dark.
I missed talking to you and Barrow but it would have been rude to shout across the table hmm
I was hoping for a quiet journey back with time to relfect about all the lovely ladies I met.
Hugs to you all 'til the next time.
P.S. Jeni and Maniac and Barrow ( and anyone else near Bristol) I meant what I said about Harvey Nicks!!!!!

petallus Sun 07-Oct-12 07:32:10

Didn't know there were so many stops between Brum and Berkhamsted - at least 20. Otherwise pleasant journey home. Straight into reading Aladdin to GS who was struggling to stay awake until I arrived.

Well, that was so enjoyable. It was just great to meet everyone and I would certainly like to do it again, maybe meeting in the hotel this time.

POGS Sun 07-Oct-12 02:20:40

I have been following your thread but obviously I have not joined in as I was not going on your 'jolly'.

I am so pleased you all had a lovely time together. It was obvious by your kindness to each other as you have been posting you would and now you can put a face to the name I'm sure your friendships will grow. Lovely.

Hope it wasn't a dry day, if so put your feet up tomorrow and have wine.

numberplease Sun 07-Oct-12 01:49:46

Got home about 9pm, completely worn out from the extra stairs coming home, only caught the connection from Nottingham to Boston by the skin of me teeth, the train was a few minutes late getting into Nottingham, left me 8 minutes to check and find the platform.
It was a lovely afternoon, thank you all for being so nice ladies, sorry I didn`t have a lot to say, but I enjoyed listening! Hope you all arrived home safely. xx

whenim64 Sat 06-Oct-12 23:36:59

Another successful meet up! Glad you all had a good time smile

jeni Sat 06-Oct-12 22:36:54

Well.
To quote Shakespeare 'Alls well that ends well!'
No excitement! Nobody drownded! We'd 'ave done better and paid to go into the zoo!where they had lions and tigers and OLD ALE and sandwiches too!

Seriously. We had a good day! Love and hugs to all

Goodnight and God bless
moon

jeni Sat 06-Oct-12 21:53:56

crimson Sat 06-Oct-12 21:24:13

...it had a purple feather attached to it, Marelli. OGM; the only one of us who pulled! Gold star for that, methinks....
