Not to be outdone - does anybody fel they could face that dreadful ordeal again?
The immortal line "No we don't have the Chenin Blanc in the white"grin
Is Birmingham ready for a second onslaught - will New Street ever recover?

I'm all up for one!
We do have people in Devon and Cornwall though. Is any body interested in a Bristol venue?

crimson Wed 09-Jan-13 12:44:23

I'm up for a Brum meet up again [as long as it isn't on a big race day blush]. I never did get to do all the sightseeing I planned for that day.

Movedalot Wed 09-Jan-13 13:06:22

I'll come. Where this time? I don't think we can be doing with 'dry' again!

We could go back to that hotel or there is a place opposite the Birmingham Hippodrome which is quite easy to get to from New St. station. It used to be called the Green Room but has changed its name, I could find out if you wish? I think it is the sort of place you could hang around without feeling they wanted you to move on. Others have probably got suggestions as well. Brum gets pretty busy at the weekends, can people do other days?

crimson Wed 09-Jan-13 13:34:10

My only weekday is Wednesday.

gracesmum Wed 09-Jan-13 13:40:37

We need that Chenin Blanc, movedalot - as long as they have it in "the white"!!
I'd be happy with one of the italian places near the Canal/Symphony Hall.

crimson Wed 09-Jan-13 13:43:58

I was wondering about the canal. I haven't been to that part of Brum since it went up market. We used to call it 'the cut'; why was that?

Movedalot Wed 09-Jan-13 13:59:34

There are loads of places near the canals (Birmingham has more miles of canals than Venice) and some like Cafe Rouge often have vouchers for midweek meals. How close can you get by public transport/taxi? I'm just thinking of those who have difficulty walking. I think its quite flat in the eating bit. It is the easiest place for me as I can get a bus from my son's.

I think "cut" is a common name for canals Crimson - because they were cut into the earth maybe? Nice. Brum works for me.

crimson Wed 09-Jan-13 15:26:45

Has to be said with a Brummie accent Jess. I've just read that a lot of cananls were called the somethingorother 'cut'. Funny that, after growing up in Brum, I should end up living in a canal village.

crimson Wed 09-Jan-13 15:27:07

cananals confused

JessM Wed 09-Jan-13 15:46:26

i think ooop 'owdam they were called cuts too.

kittylester Wed 09-Jan-13 16:06:25

We live near the Grand Union Canal and it isn't called a cut here but I think that's because, for good parts of it, it's the River Soar. confused

petallus Wed 09-Jan-13 16:08:59

I'm interested in another Brum meet-up.

gracesmum Wed 09-Jan-13 18:36:11

You can get very close, Movedalot at any rate by taxi as we had to do for DH to get to Symphony Hall in October.

Movedalot Wed 09-Jan-13 19:08:40

Then let's go for Brindley place somewhere Grace. Have a look at: www.brindleyplace.com/category/restaurants/ there is plenty of choice.

gracesmum Wed 09-Jan-13 22:37:29

I had a friendly response from Strada at Brindley Place last time round, there is also Carluccio's but it is very popular with families and might be less keen to have us for the whole afternoon. I can ask though! Any other suggestions?

gracesmum Wed 09-Jan-13 22:39:20

Maybe Strada has been taken over/moved? Piccolino's also looks OK as does Cafe Rouge.

Movedalot Thu 10-Jan-13 10:39:37

Don't like Wagamamas, seeting is benches! I'll ask DS what he thinks of them all and let you know. There are restaurants on Broad Street as well so I'll ask about them.

DH and I had a lovely pre-theatre meal in the Hyatt which is right on Broad St so very easy to get to. Just a suggestion because a hotel is rather easier to hang around in than some restaurants which might want the tables for others. If you are going to Symphone Hall again Glass it has a walkway straight through.

JessM Thu 10-Jan-13 11:17:08

Yes wagmammas is uncomfortable. Cunningly designed to get your money and get you to bugger off asap. Not cheap and not everyone likes spicy noodles.

I don't think we should plan lunch in a hotel as they are not cheap either.
I actually liked the museum because there was a great choice of food (self service sandwich, hot dinner, cake etc) and I am not at all bothered about drinking. white or not smile
I prefer a cake to be honest. Why squander calories on wine is my motto.
It was also not too crowded and hectic in the museum - if we are talking about a Saturday lunchtime hmm
But somewhere with comfy seats to lounge around is also good.
To be honest what we did last time could work again - lunch in the museum (with enough time for cake!) and then a quiet hotel lounge and a glass of wine (without a wedding) afterwards.

glitabo Thu 10-Jan-13 11:56:27

I could come to another meet up.

glassortwo Thu 10-Jan-13 12:23:22

move ??? hmm very confused.

Movedalot Thu 10-Jan-13 12:47:27

Glass what have I done?

I think there was quite a stong feeling that we didn't want to go anywhere 'dry' again and another issue with the museam was that the cafe closed at 4pm which didn't suit those on trains.

In the Hyatt lobby you can choose to just have a starter, a dessert, coffee or go the whole hog if you like. I thought that might cater for everyone's tasts and it is so easy to get to and no one hassling you for the seats. I'm not in any way pushing it, just making a suggestion as we didn't feel hassled to leave the hotel last time but might in somewhere that is only a restaurant. We could of course go straight to the Copthorne?

What does everyone else think? There must be plenty of places in Brum. Rakhams has a restaurant on the ladies clothes floor that I have never seen crowded but I haven't been there on a Saturday. Maybe we won't choose a Saturday?

glassortwo Thu 10-Jan-13 12:49:28

move I was not at your meeting are you confusing me with someone else grin I would have loved to have be with you all but its a bit too far from Newcastle.
