Glass and I were talking the other day about arranging another get-together in the near future in Newcastle upon Tyne (or thereabouts). The weather seems so miserable at the moment (it's snowing heavily here) that it would be a good idea to have something to look forward to.
Add your name if you're interested and suggested dates - I think a month or so on from now would be good.
absent I am sure we would be welcomed with open arms
I have been down and had a look, I am putting a link for google maps which shows the restaurants. map I have found 3 NCP car parks on the Quayside all next to restaurants, and are very close to each venue.
First NCP car park is on Pandon bank which is next to Piccolino further along on same road is Silk Bar and Cafe 21. piccolino Silkroom Cafe21
Another NCP attached to the Newcastle Central Travelodge (which you pass on the way to the previous car park), straight out of the car park there is a back door into The Waterline Pub The Waterline
Third NCP is on Sandgate which is the access to Malmaison which is just to the left of the previous two car parks and as you come out of the car park La tasca is directly opposite and next is Bar Gusto we have been to both of these restaurants on previous visit. latasca bar gusto
We may have to book at some of these but have a look and see what you think
Just a thought La Tasca has a Taste card on offer free for 30 days where you can get 2 for 1 or 50% of your bill but I would imagine we would need to apply asap.
The Quayside, which is lovely, is an okay walk from the station as far as I am concerned and even if it rains, I doubt if I am going to shrink. I don't know how anybody else feels and also suspect that parking might well be a problem.
Been looking on TripAdvisor, quite a few options in the centre of Newcastle, but not sure about parking in that area. Quayside is good of course, is there parking there for GillieB? A bit of a walk from the rail/bus station (if it rains ). Hope you managed to spot something glass.
I left the car at the restaurant We went to last night not far from quayside, so as soon as tesco has been I am going to collect it and have a reccy, see what I can come up with. Unless anyone else can think of anything.
jane there is also a chinese just around the corner with a car park if its still there. Or thecopthorne have their own car park. Someone saidthe station hotel have lunch offers and there is disabled parking at station or thecounty hotel opposite station will do lunches.
Sachins is very near the station and you can park outside, however a) it is Indian which some people might not like and b) it gives the lunch time opening hours as 12 -1.30, presumably this means the times you have to order food by and not the time they actually kick you out, would need to check this.
gally it would have been lovely to see you but we will catch up when you are back. gillieB we will investigate suitable venues for you. I am out tonight but will get onto it tomorrow.
As I said when I originally posted, I was open to suggestions about where to meet. My problem is that I have mobility problems so that if I come in on the bus, the only place I can walk to is the John Lewis Expresso cafe. Failing that, for me, it's going to have to be somewhere where I can park outside. I'll leave it to you to come up with somewhere suitable for everyone - suggestions welcome!
So, bumped again by glass - any ideas on where to meet up? I wish I could come up with suggestions, but I only know Newcastle for shopping and not eating and drinking! Ladies who know the city better than I, ideas please
The date is fine with me but I should prefer to meet somewhere within walking distance of the station if it's possible and doesn't put other people out. Otherwise, travelling there and back tends to take over the day rather than eating, drinking and chatting.
There's a Fratellis at the Hilton at the airport . I ate there on my way out to Switzerland . The metro goes to the airport and the hotel has free parking for customers.someone told me the station hotel at central station was fine. I can't speak for it personally
