My sister has researched our family over the years..always knew I was English but on my mothers side we are Dutch. She has been learning the language and has applied for a residency visa and work visa.i came along for the ride till I get kicked out! Lol! they seem to have more liberal visas.its beautiful here...so old! I sure am happy to get away from the heat!

The plane ride from JFK was a little over eight hours.A KLM flight..we splurged on business class seats and never got bored from being continually feed! Snack, dinner, desert,breakfast.. And a cute Dutch ceramic house filled with liquor.Stewardess reminded us to drink it before returning home.grin

Sounds great, I`ve never been to Holland. Mind you, I wouldn`t have minded that flight either!

Anyone from or near dundee.my husband passed away October he had altzimers for three years and I have become quite isolated. My 2daughters work and have their own busy lives. Anyone interested in days out for coffee and Charlie maybe holidays.

Marelli Mon 09-Feb-15 08:04:49

Welcome, onlythelonely. I'm sorry to hear about your husband. You must have felt isolated for a long while - now and during his illness, perhaps. I'm in Fife, but there are one or two members in Dundee who might be reading this?
I had a wee chuckle to myself when I read your post, though, only...'days out and Charlie'......not so sure about the Charlie!! grin!!

So nice to hear from Fifers! Do you know the saying 'it takes a lang spoon tae sup wae a Fifer'? I was born on the east coast of Fife- been in Canada for nearly 50 years- but still think of Fife-especially all the roads I biked along the coast up to St Andrews going North , Kirkaldy and Dunfermline going south and in land to Cupar and Falkland . Lang live the Kingdom of Fife!

Marelli Mon 09-Feb-15 20:41:00

Nice to meet you, amarmai - and yes, I do know the saying! Can you tell us where you lived all those years ago? smile

Elegran Mon 09-Feb-15 21:29:22

Another Fife saying - "Ye come frae Fife? Gie's yer hond!" - "Ye come frae Cupar? Gi's yer twa hond!"

My Dad was born in Fife - Newport - and we spent summer holidays at my Granny's house. Did the sun always shine on the West Sands at St Andrews in those distant days? That's how I remember it. And every sunny afternoon was rounded off with Janetta's ice cream, which is still there.

DH trained at HMS Caledonia near Dunfermline and has lots of stories of that time. A few years ago we were on holiday in Scotland so we had to go and peer through the wire at the buildings.
