I have been nagging hinting to Geraldine about the possiblity of a National Meetup and this is her reply...........

glassortwo I did spot your hint about a national meetup and we'd love to do this.

It's just a question of how/where - but we are keen and we're looking into venues and how best to organise it.

Think it's a brilliant idea and we will make it happen this year - just a question of working out how.

If anyone has any thoughts about what (where) they'd like, we would of course be grateful for suggestions.

So thinking caps on everyone. smile

I'm happy with the midlands so long as I can get a disabled hotel room.
Only problem is I'm away beginning of oct. back on 4th and new dgc due about 27th!

How did that work, Granny23? Sounds sensible. smile

EasyPeasy (see musing thread) Marelli. All attendees submitted a not of their travel expenses, including those from the host group with zero costs, total costs calculated and divided by number of participants. Those under the average paid a top-up - those above got a rebate. Seemed fair to me as although they had to pay up locals did not have to endure hours of travelling and it made it possible for the far-flung and small groups e.g. Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland to participate fully in decision making.

This is a great idea, and I'm all for it. Just a thought, though; someone mentioned Ocotber and, as someone very involved in conferences, October is very popular for these events. I have two already booked for next October, one for over 1,000 and the other for about 500.

Seaside places or touristy places are best because of the range of accommodation.

Interested depends on when . Better when schools are in rather when out.

Bags registering interest smile

Blackpool is about in the middle of Great Britain, is easily accessible by road, rail, air and sea, has facilities for oodles of people...

... and a beach.

But we'd need to avoid the busy seasons.

Just a thought.

Elegran Tue 23-Apr-13 11:55:50

Blackpool sounds the best place to me.

whenim64 Tue 23-Apr-13 12:00:14

Yes, I'd be interested if it's Blackpool. A bit more manageable, less expensive than London, good conference facilities on the outskirts and easy access.

grannyactivist Tue 23-Apr-13 12:12:13

Blackpool sounds like a good idea. Flights to Manchester then direct trains to Blackpool north are available. Lots of notice please though, we'll need to take advantage of cheap (advance) tickets.

LullyDully Tue 23-Apr-13 12:17:33

If it can't be Portsmouth .....why not Blackpool! smile

Lilygran Tue 23-Apr-13 12:24:04

I vote for Blackpool as well. But not in the summer.

Gally Tue 23-Apr-13 13:15:26

Good idea Blackpool - never been there - oh, I lie, I drove in one end and out of the other just to have a look about 14 years ago grin. ?October?

Gally Tue 23-Apr-13 13:16:20

P.S. Are GNHQ organising this?

Elegran Tue 23-Apr-13 13:18:35

I hope so!

Bags Tue 23-Apr-13 13:24:18

Will the Blackpool Hallucinations still be up in October?

soop Tue 23-Apr-13 13:29:57

grin

That`s what I was going to say Bags, Blackpool will be packed out right up to the beginning of November, it`s quite nice there though in the winter, so maybe November would be a good time?

annodomini Tue 23-Apr-13 15:52:09

Blackpool switches on 30th August and off again 10th November.

Grannyeggs Tue 23-Apr-13 15:54:01

November would suit me.

Marelli Tue 23-Apr-13 18:30:59

I'd be ok for November, too. smile

Notso Wed 24-Apr-13 10:14:12

Me too.

Are you getting involved with this GNHQ?

If you confirm Blackpool, with a date after the illuminations end, we can all start making lists smile

glassortwo Wed 24-Apr-13 10:15:53

Ohh I dont need an excuse to make a list grin I am easy if we have advance warning of when/where.

Ariadne Wed 24-Apr-13 10:51:42

Blackpool, November - why not? I've been there for a couple of conferences and all the facilities and accommodation are there...smile

Notso Wed 24-Apr-13 11:55:30

(Mainly for the benefit of GNHQ! smile)
