Anyone interested in coffee at the Gallery cafe at the Mound on 16th August? Anya and I will be meeting there and wondered whether anyone else is free?

oldgoat Sun 13-Aug-17 13:48:49

I've lost count of the numbers now! Am I large enough to spread- eagle myself over a table in the window do you think elegran ?

Elegran Sun 13-Aug-17 14:09:33

I'll get there early too, oldgoat and spread myself over half.
If we act like daft old women no-one will sit near us.

Elegran Sun 13-Aug-17 14:12:48

Five definite, six if EllenT can come.

Jane10 Sun 13-Aug-17 14:44:17

Ooh good. Daft old women. I can do that. See you there! I'll be the one playing the harmonica and cackling to myself.

Elegran Sun 13-Aug-17 15:08:54

Correction - six or seven (didn't count myself) Daft old women - who needs to act?

Katek Sun 13-Aug-17 15:43:09

Lol Elegran!! I should be with you around 11.15 so keep a space for a little' un - that's vertically not girth!

Anya Mon 14-Aug-17 07:05:31

This might be the last chance I get to post as catching train later this morning and doubt any WiFi at Aunty's ?

I'll be the crumpled looking one as will be living out of suitcase from now till then. You all know each other already I'm thinking?

oldgoat Mon 14-Aug-17 08:39:13

Don't worry anya When I came to my first GN meet-up in Edinburgh I didn't know anyone and I spotted the group without any difficulty!!!

Jane10 Mon 14-Aug-17 09:23:08

I nearly spoke to several potential 'Grans' while waiting to meet for the first time. Could have been embarrassing. We should have a code word to hiss secretly!

Katek Mon 14-Aug-17 09:47:42

Or maybe a bowler hat and rolled up copy of The Times' ? smile

Elegran Mon 14-Aug-17 09:54:53

The first time I met any, we were to meet outside a certain Princes Street store. It was lashing down rain so I waited just inside. I came out when I saw three "older ladies" acccosting various innocent customers attempting to enter.

Elegran Mon 14-Aug-17 09:56:38

Cascat hasn't been before, so she will be scanning for potential gransnetters too.

cascats Mon 14-Aug-17 16:00:25

Cascats will be the one who is sort of oval shaped with a brightly coloured shoulderbag looking lost !
Looking forward to Wednesday, in fact was even looking forward to it today as for some reason (excitement?) had put on calendar for 14th confused.
Nearly had my own wee meeting grin

Marmight Mon 14-Aug-17 16:27:01

'Older Elegran?! shock Marelli, Glass and I were positively juvenile then grin

EllenT Mon 14-Aug-17 19:07:41

Can make coffee on Weds smile so see you all then. Might be a little after 11 depending on trains. Looking forward to it brew

So it is all go for tomorrow! Now I just need to photograph all the pages of oldgoat's antique journal so that I can give it back (I started copying it but my printer/copier/scanner broke down after a few pages and appears to be defunct. I have ordered a new one, but it hasn't even been despatched yet)

Katek Tue 15-Aug-17 12:27:53

All organised here Elegran, just have to sort out day pack with some food/drink this evening. Up at ungodly hour ( for me) to get to station. Fingers crossed that the morning commuters aren't too numerous!

oldgoat Tue 15-Aug-17 17:40:49

Don't worry about copying the journal elegran I need to copy it too so I can do a copy for each of us.

Elegran Tue 15-Aug-17 17:59:44

I've photographed it all, oldgoat, much quicker than photocopying. I can give you a copy to look at on screen or print off.

Each photo has a lot of extraneous background around it, which I have started to crop off but there will be a pause while I eat. I don't know whether I will have that finished for tomorrow, but if not you may have to crop some of them yourself.

Elegran Tue 15-Aug-17 18:01:14

New printer ordered Monday but won't be here until Friday - that is express delivery, Lord knows when standard delivery would have been.

EllenT Wed 16-Aug-17 17:00:24

Great to see old friends and new. How long was it before the waiting staff chased you from the table? Was a modest order of pate enough to hold them at bat?

EllenT Wed 16-Aug-17 17:01:55

'at bay', not 'at bat' - eyes still blurry with eyedrops from this afternoon's optician appointment .

Jane10 Wed 16-Aug-17 18:16:37

They sort of lost interest in us after we'd had the pate.
Lovely to see everyone!

Katek Wed 16-Aug-17 19:32:09

Phew! That's me home 10 minutes ago-dh is making me a restorative cuppa before I head out again! Was lovely to see everyone and I wasn't going to let grumpy waitress spoil my day. Jane is correct - they lost so much interest in us that we wondered how we were going to get the bill! Hope everyone had good journeys home. When are we doing it again?!? grin

oldgoat Wed 16-Aug-17 20:35:54

I've not been in long either. Good to meet everyone and to be able to put a face to a name anya and cascat Hope the eye appointment went OK ellen Edinburgh was really busy today wasn't it, but not many people were in the Romans Remains gallery at the museum, which was very peaceful. What a great museum!
Couldn't get a signal on my phone in the train so my plan to catch up with Gransnet was thwarted.
Thanks for the Journal update elegran More disappointment!
