I shan't mention the dreaded C**-word yet, as September is only partway through, but we do need to start planning and booking if we want to meet up in December. The sooner we book the more likely we are to get a table.

Possible dates - 11th to 20th December, with the 14th or 15th mentioned.
Possible venue - ROSL, Princes Street.
Likely format - lunchtime eating and drinking, and talking. It is just possible that a splinter group may also go to see a show in the afternoon, if there is one that appeals.
Numbers - So far six people are interested. ( Katek Elizabeth1 Jane10 EllenT Marelli Me )

Please add your name if you are interested, and say which date(s) you would prefer.

Elegran Fri 15-Sept-17 19:13:01

Lurkio added. Not exactly a stranger though - she has been to several things, but not for a while.
That is now 12.

Baggs Fri 15-Sept-17 19:37:15

There's a fantabulous wool shop in Gourock. Just sayin' smile

Baggs Fri 15-Sept-17 19:37:47

Nice to hear Lurkio is coming too.

Marydoll Fri 15-Sept-17 19:53:17

I have just caught up with this, having been on holiday.
I would love to come, but won't know my childminding dates until beginning of December, when DIL gets her rota.
Would it be possible to let you know then?

Elegran Sat 16-Sept-17 09:34:51

Yes, Marydoll the numbers don't have to be final until the last minute. I will add you as a "possible".

Marydoll Sat 16-Sept-17 10:12:25

Thank you. I'm really keen to meet everyone, but my DIL's rota is never the same two weeks in a row and she only gets four weeks at a time, so it's hard to plan anything. Fingers crossed.

Elegran Sat 16-Sept-17 10:30:39

Let's hope the rota works out for December!

Will be having a wander around Edinburgh on Tuesday, so I will broadcast my afternoon tea cafe location with plenty of notice for any of you lovely Edinburgh gransnetters to join in if you are free!

Elegran Sun 17-Sept-17 19:29:55

I am sorry but I not sure I will be joining you after all, Storynanny. Since I last posted on this thread I have come down with a raw throat and a fierce headache and I have gone through several packs of tissues. I don't think you would want the end of your holiday ruined by getting it. It is most annoying because I was looking forward to hearing about your trip. Do hope you are going to tell us the highlights.

storynanny Sun 17-Sept-17 21:40:04

Ah never mind. I'm glad to have arrived in Edinburgh after 5 nights travelling around in rather ....rustic accommodation. I think I am too old for this sort of holiday! I want a bit more comfort than 200 year old remote B and B 's in the middle of nowhere! Mr Storynanny loves it though so we will continue to compromise.

Elegran Mon 18-Sept-17 10:15:18

I am sure you will be back again in the future, Storynanny, maybe concentrating on Edinburgh next time. We will meet then.

baubles Mon 18-Sept-17 13:31:24

Rats! I've just seen this and sadly can't manage as Wednesdays are childminding days. sad

storynanny Tue 19-Sept-17 19:36:48

Had a lovely day today in the sunshine! Went to royal yacht Britannia on the bus ( thanks for the tip Elegran) thoroughly enjoyed it. Mr Storynanny spotted himself ( well the ship he was on on the actual day) on the big map ( on the wall if the dining room ) of the 1977 fleet review in the solent. He was very excited as he had never seen the map or photo before.
Up at crack of dawn tomorrow to return the b.......... hire car to glasgow before 10 so as not to incur even more charges!
Yes will def return one day before my knees give up compketely.
Now off to find another thread about day in glasgow before evening plane ( fortunately not ryanair!)

Marydoll Tue 19-Sept-17 21:59:48

Storynanny the best way to see Glasgow in a short space of time is to do the bus tour.
A word of warning, the M8 Will be really busy tomorrow from Edinburgh to Glasgow. You will need at least two hours, to be on the safe side.I know I would. LOOK OUT FOR THE BUS LANES IN GLASGOW.
Otherwise enjoy your day in Glasgow, lots to see. Kelvingrove Museum is worth a look, if it is really wet and it's s free, as is the Museum of transport. Enjoy!

Just caught up. Belated thanks to Elegran for making the ROSL booking. Hope to see you all there roastchicken

Omagranny Fri 06-Oct-17 17:13:09

Do you have room for one more? I'd love to join you.

Elegran Fri 06-Oct-17 18:18:01

There's always room for one more, Omagranny. Look forward to meeting you. Will you have far to travel?

Elegran Fri 06-Oct-17 18:23:17

By that I don't mean that our age is 14, though sometimes it does seem so.

soop Sun 15-Oct-17 17:15:02

Elegran I'm wondering whether or not I may be able to join you. The bus leaves at 7:10 and arrives Glasgow 11:00-ish. I would therefore be able to join you as soon as I've hailed a taxi to the venue. What does ROSL stand for? The last bus for me in the afternoon leaves Glasgow at 5:45 which means that I'd need to leave the gathering at 4-ish. What do you think?

Elegran Sun 15-Oct-17 17:34:00

Just come back to the pooter, soop and seen your post. If it is remotely possible for you to get to the Edinburgh meetup then it would be great to see you.

Baggs has her name down to come, so for some of the journey you could join her. It will still be a long day for you - do you want a bed for the night, either before or after or both? I have a new bed in the spare room! At the moment it is heaped with sewing but that can be moved.

Baggs Sun 15-Oct-17 17:51:21

It will be lovely if you are able to come, soop. Do take up elegran's kind offer if it would make things easier for you, which it would! ?

Marydoll Sun 15-Oct-17 19:58:04

Soop what an adventure if you could come. Are you getting a taxi from Glasgow to Edinburgh? The train from Queen Street would be quicker and cheaper.
Or am I just interfering and confusing things?
I really hope I can come to the lunch, I would love to meet up with people.

Marelli Sun 15-Oct-17 22:49:11

I’m so looking forward to this! It’ll be lovely to see everyone - new faces and those I’ve met many times before! If soop can make it, it will be the cherry on the cake!! ☺️
