Any ideas for a venue? A spring walk in the Botanics plus lunch in their restaurant?

Elegran Fri 05-Apr-19 13:26:32

That is a shame, Katek - though good that the fracture clinic appointment is soon, of course.

* Cascats and Grammaretto* Might see you on the bus, if not at the gate.

Grammaretto Fri 05-Apr-19 11:50:51

To get there from Waverley.
Exit up the escalator to Princes St.
Cross and walk left along Princes St to Hanover St. The bus stop is up on your left just before George st. You won't have to wait long for a 23 or a 27 and both stop near the east gate of the Botanics.. Don't forget your bus pass.

Katek Fri 05-Apr-19 10:26:54

My final fracture clinic appointment came in earlier this week for....of course.....Monday 8th, so I’m not going to make this meet up. Sorry to be missing it but am organised for the V&A next month. Hope you all have lovely time at Botanics and I’ll see the Dundee contingent in a few weeks. smile

cascats Fri 05-Apr-19 10:20:12

Hi Elegran, sorry have just returned home from looking after mum while sister getting tests in hospital. Have not had time to research travel for Monday and now it looks like the Waverley taxi is full grin, will most likely come by bus.

Grammaretto Wed 03-Apr-19 19:36:52

That's great. If I make it - I'll find you!! grin

Elegran Wed 03-Apr-19 19:17:30

That would be great, Grammaretto. Plan is for ?most? of us to meet at the Inverleith entrance at about 11 am and walk over to the John Hope Gateway at the main Arboretum entrance, where we have a table booked at 1 pm in the Gateway restaurant. Some may join us there.

Grammaretto Wed 03-Apr-19 18:23:48

I've only just seen this thread! What's the plan? I may be able to come but I've arranged for major garden work on Monday so I'd need to delegate the overseeing of that.
I'll be at the RBGE tomorrow as usual as I walk from the WGH while DH has his treatment.
It's school holidays so will be mega busy.

GeminiJen Tue 02-Apr-19 18:36:41

Thanks Elegran Have just looked at the menu: delish.
Has reminded me that I haven't eaten since breakfast. Visit to the dentist this morning and my face took a while to 'defrost' grin

Elegran Tue 02-Apr-19 18:22:59

That is done. A table for 8 is booked at the Gateway restaurant for 1 pm on Monday 8th April. The Gateway restaurant is in the John Hope gateway at the main Arboretum entrance.

Now all we need is good weather!

Jane10 Tue 02-Apr-19 16:37:35

I remember confusion the last time there was a GN meet at the Botanics! There were Grans all over the place. The main restaurant is in the John Hope gateway. There are two others though but they are self service. Hope you have a good time. The gardens should be looking lovely.

Elegran Tue 02-Apr-19 16:16:53

So I shall have a go now at booking for lunch - does 1pm suit everyone?

I shall meet up with the taxi-from-Waverley contingent at the Inverleith gate near the bus-stop and I'll contact Katek, GeminiJen and Cascats to check where they will meet us.

Elegran Tue 02-Apr-19 16:13:04

Bellasnana We will think of you and your sister and mum. What a lovely place to have their ashes.

Bellasnana Tue 02-Apr-19 15:39:41

Hope you all have a lovely get-together.

If you are passing the herbaceous border, you might spare a thought for my sister and mum whose ashes are interred under a beech tree nearby. There is also a bench dedicated to my sister. She taught at Fettes and loved the Botanics.?

oldgoat Tue 02-Apr-19 15:30:28

Elegran
The Inverleith gateway sounds a good meeting place if that is near where the bus stops. As 4 of us will be arriving in the same taxi we can ask the driver to drop us there too.

Elegran Tue 02-Apr-19 14:19:21

I don't like to nag, but which gate are we meeting at? (I would prefer the Inverleith one, but I'll go with the flow)

Brunette10 Tue 02-Apr-19 09:49:41

No problem, see you there smile

weenanni59 Tue 02-Apr-19 09:38:39

Great ! See you all there

oldgoat Tue 02-Apr-19 08:56:38

Marydoll, Brunette and weenanni I'll meet you all in the seating area at Waverley, near the booking office, around 10.30 then.

Brunette10 Tue 02-Apr-19 07:31:40

Yes that's fine - thank you.

weenanni59 Mon 01-Apr-19 23:14:42

Hi, I’m also happy to share a taxi from Waverley

Marydoll Mon 01-Apr-19 21:10:09

Brunette ? and I will share, Old Goat. I should get in about 10.30am.

Elegran Mon 01-Apr-19 17:36:37

So, buses from Princes Street get us to the Botanics at about 10 to 11, so call it 11 am. Where shall we meet? The bus stop is at the Inverleith Row entrance, but the parking could be anywhere, possibly at the Arboretum Place entrance. Which end are our less robust walkers arriving?

If I check the restaurant and book for eight of us at 1.00, we would have 2 hours to walk around. Or would you prefer to eat at 12.30 and split the walking into before and after lunch?

oldgoat Mon 01-Apr-19 13:41:53

Just off to book my train seat to the meet-up. My train arrives at Waverley at 10.20 am. Anyone like to share a taxi to the Botanics?

Elegran Fri 15-Mar-19 13:50:39

Are any of you interested in some felting equipment and a huge bag of wool for it? A friend is clearing her stash and has stuff she bought on a wave of enthusiasm, but has hardly used. I could try to bring it with me. Maybe it could be stored somewhere while we eat, or maybe she could post it to you. I'm asking the people coming to the V&A meetup too, but of course it isn't restricted to them.

Elegran Fri 08-Mar-19 20:45:45

Glad you can come, Weeanni (but sorry that Marelli can't)
