story here

Apparently we are all requested to ring any bells we can lay hands on for three minutes on Friday, between 8.12 and 8.15 am. According to the Today programme, it includes doorbells.

So, don't forget.

hmm

We need a bell smiley and quick ! grin

JO4 Thu 26-Jul-12 11:12:40

Don't somehow we are gonna get that Annika. They are strictly on ration don't you know! grin

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 26-Jul-12 11:47:47

Don't forget you can still get into the spirit by waving lots of these flag flag flag

Anagram Thu 26-Jul-12 11:49:01

Cop-out! hmm

JO4 Thu 26-Jul-12 11:53:31

It was a bit of an ask! grin

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 26-Jul-12 11:53:36

oh sad

in which case JosieGransnet and I are prepared to shout BONG very loudly at the appropriate time?

Grandmanorm Thu 26-Jul-12 11:55:51

Does anyone know why we "have" to do this please? I have a lovely brass bell bought in the Far East 42 years ago and shall ring it, but DH is not impressed!!

JO4 Thu 26-Jul-12 11:57:44

They are trying to add to the at the moment non-existent excitement.

JO4 Thu 26-Jul-12 11:58:21

Cari that will be fine.

Don't forget.

JO4 Thu 26-Jul-12 11:59:40

You might even wake me up if you do it loud enough.

Anagram Thu 26-Jul-12 12:45:09

And me! grin

gracesmum Thu 26-Jul-12 13:05:55

Once again Twenty Twelve has come up with another "loopy idea "- hang on a miute, they're really doing it! I read the producer saying he wished LOCOG could think up their own problems instead of just copying the programmes's

Granb Thu 26-Jul-12 15:44:51

Shall I make and sell to all Gnetters an instrument made of up a number of different coloured rings joined together with little cymbals on each circle..... or sell printed tshirts with a picture of different coloured rings joined together with the words "I'm joining in the London Olympics 2012 Big Ben Bong" printed on them so that all those Gnetters who won't be in the vicinity of a bell can participate..... or will I attract the trademark men in their fetching uniforms??

Anagram Thu 26-Jul-12 15:53:57

You'll have to be quick, Granb - it's tomorrow! grin

Well I have got the bells ready for us all in the morning, the DGC are going to ring their bike bells and the door bell, we are hoping the church behind us will have the ringers in.
Then we are going to have a Olympic party tomorrow afternoon for the DGC just to get into the spirit of it all you understand grin

Notsogrand Fri 27-Jul-12 07:12:56

An Olympic party is a great idea! I'm off to a group bell ring in the village, I couldn't find a bell anywhere so I'm taking a very jingly metal wind chime. Plus a flag Then back home to watch every scrap of everything on the TV!

Just heard a few hooter blasts from a cruise ship at Southampton....I wonder if they'll join in with the bell ringing?

Ella46 Fri 27-Jul-12 08:18:17

Well I joined in with Jingle's bells all on my own! It was very noisy! flag

glassortwo Fri 27-Jul-12 08:21:02

Wow that was fantastic the DGC have got my ears ringing (does that count) sunshine

glassortwo Fri 27-Jul-12 08:22:22

flag flag flag I should have used the flag but I am overcome we have sunshine here shock

lucid Fri 27-Jul-12 08:42:59

Had great fun ringing my brass lady bell that belonged to my Grandma.grin...I couldn't hear any other bells in our village, not even the church bells.

Well, I stuck my head out of the bedrom window. No bells ringing round here.

Boris Johnson was getting very excited on the Today programme though. hmm

JO4 Fri 27-Jul-12 09:07:32

Oh. Forgot this flag

JO4 Fri 27-Jul-12 09:08:55

Well done to all your efforts though. smile

I hope you haven't had too many complaints from the neighbours. grin

glassortwo Fri 27-Jul-12 09:41:40

jingle my ears are still ringing so they well have been hanging out of their bedroom windows scowling at the ringing grin

Notsogrand Fri 27-Jul-12 09:47:33

About 60/70 people in the church yard this morning...we made a real noise with an amazing range of bells! Quite a few children there who jingled like mad bless them! flag
