story here

Apparently we are all requested to ring any bells we can lay hands on for three minutes on Friday, between 8.12 and 8.15 am. According to the Today programme, it includes doorbells.

So, don't forget.

hmm

Three minutes? My dogs will go crazy. Will my alarm clock do instead? grin

JO4 Wed 25-Jul-12 09:49:23

Yep! That'll be fine. grin

I have a Big Ben chime on my door bell I guess I can get OH to stand at the front door ringing... grin

That might please people round here as Big Ben was cast in the local bell foundry. There was up roar when the manufacture of the bell at the centre of the Olympics was awarded to a different company and then cast in Holland. Especially as Seb Coe used to train at the local university confused

I may just stay in bed....hmm

There's a gathering at a church car park near here where everyone is getting together to ring what ever bell they can bring!

Ha! Did anyone see Twenty-twelve last night? There was a joke about everyone banging saucepans for a minute - supposedly an antidote to a minute's silence. It wasn't the best episode but still some very funny moments.

This is also a joy, for any fans

So, if I do make a racket jangling the bell outside the back door (used to call DH in from the shed), everyone in the area will know why I'm doing it?

It won't be just me will it? potential blush

I've got one of those bells. The chain has fallen off so I'll have to use a bit of baler twine.

Anagram Wed 25-Jul-12 12:05:20

The neighbours working night-shifts might not be so enthusiastic! hmm

Granb Wed 25-Jul-12 16:16:56

I'm sorry but that has just got to be a wind-up, right

Annika Wed 25-Jul-12 16:37:57

Chris Evans said something about this on the one show last night

JO4 Wed 25-Jul-12 16:45:03

It's an artwork.

JO4 Wed 25-Jul-12 16:45:35

Well, that's what it says in the paper. [shrug]

soop Wed 25-Jul-12 16:53:39

getmehrt It was brilliant. Wish there was more to come. Haven't got a bicycle bell but our door bell rings with the tune...'When you are in love...' Mr soop chose it blush Perhaps I shall stand on the doorstep and ring away to my heart's content. Our one neighbour is hard of hearing [and like us, slightly barmy] he'll not bat an eyelid. grin

Oh for heaven's sake! The world has gone mad. OK, call me a killjoy.............

JO4 Thu 26-Jul-12 09:08:12

I quite like the idea of Big Ben sounding excited. smile

glassortwo Thu 26-Jul-12 09:16:50

Is this a wind up????

Notsogrand Thu 26-Jul-12 09:24:25

It's not a wind-up! It's all part of Opening Ceremony day, details here...

www.allthebells.com/

At a Farmers Market in our village last weekend the Town Crier announced it. There are a couple of events close by, but I can't find a bell anywhere! I will find/make/improvise some sort of a bell and join in!

glassortwo Thu 26-Jul-12 09:26:53

Right then I will have the DGC up and on the door step with their bicycle bells and raise the street gringrin

glassortwo Thu 26-Jul-12 10:02:04

I have down loaded the bells ringtone too, might as well go the full hog!!!

JO4 Thu 26-Jul-12 10:28:21

glass, show the GKs how to whizz the little pointy hand along all the bell pictures without stopping.

Makes a helluva racket.

Go on!! grin

JO4 Thu 26-Jul-12 10:28:47

Make sure you've got the sound on.
