Adults over 18 would have to 'opt-in'

Excellent - signed it!

Never sign things unless I think I know enough a) about who is asking me to sign and b) exactly what is involved.

Can't find much detail on the link.

I see there is a Christian Society involved.

There's a general move to gee up the internet service providers and get them to block pornography, Petallus but meanwhile several organisations are petitioning to put an opt-in age limit on pornography. This goes beyond abusive images of children because it is now generaly accepted that pornography is not harmless, even consenting images of adults in various unrealistic sexual positions, because it distorts childrens' developing view of intimacy and sexual relationships between adults.

I am totally against pornography personally. Think it's awful that children can access it on the internet if their parents don't use parental controls.

However, this petition includes people up to the age of 18 and also wants any other adult to have to opt in.

Also would like to know more about the organizations/s involved in this petition.

Just to be clear when I wish there was no pornography at all. In fact in the 80s I was part of a women's group that glued up the local porno shop's keyhole (only a lookout though).

Ella46 Sat 01-Sept-12 17:48:38

Petallus I hesitate to mention this but it's being championed by the dreaded Daily Mail!
There's an article about it today. I've already chucked the paper so will go and retrieve it!

Are normal , decent human beings for it ??

Safetynet is a reputable organisation for child protection, but if you prefer another epetition for the same campaign, here's another high profile one with exactly the same aim. There is a FAQ pdf on Safetynet's petition website, which should give reassurance.

Ella46 Sat 01-Sept-12 18:02:20

Phew!! grin

petallus Sat 01-Sept-12 18:12:00

Thanks for the info when and ella

Just didn't want to fall into the hands of the far Christian right smile

Although I did notice that out of four things Safetynet tell me I should do to stop children seeing pornography, the fourth one is 'pray'.

Will go off and sign something or other.

Nonu what was that about normal decent human beings? Do you mean are they for pornography for children or for pornography per se?

Nonu Sat 01-Sept-12 18:16:31

What I meant , is that NO normal human being is for pornography , it"s impossible , because it is a reprehensible thing . I perhaps didn"t totally make myself clear , hope I have now .

petallus Sat 01-Sept-12 18:46:46

Thanks Nonu. All is now clear.

The mind boggles!

Nonu Sat 01-Sept-12 18:47:25

The mind boggles at what ?

petallus Sat 01-Sept-12 18:53:22

Your comment seems to suggest that (I'm guessing) at least seventy percent of men are not normal, and probably a smaller percentage of women.

Of course, depends on how you define pornography.

Hard porn is one thing, Fifty Shades of Grey is another.

Ohu why are (most) human beings so fallible?

Nonu Sat 01-Sept-12 18:59:03

Excuse me where did men and women come into this , you surely knew I meant everyone should find porography reprehensible . U still haven"t told me why your mind is boggled . sweetgrin

petallus Sat 01-Sept-12 19:20:40

I understood you to say that NO normal human being is for pornography, meaning that anyone who looks at porno is not normal.

I think about 70 percent of men have looked at porno, probably less women?

So that's a lot of people who you think are abnormal.

My mind was boggling at the thought of all those people being abnormal.

How was my post not clear?

I don't think I can elucidate further.

I might have misunderstood your post of course.smile

Nonu Sat 01-Sept-12 19:25:39

Enough already , I think you did . My boredom thresh hold is very low . I am now bored big time

Littlenellie Sat 01-Sept-12 19:52:07

I have nothing against pornography as long as it's well made by consenting adults. It's one of the few industries where the women get paid more than the men. A lot of the women are very well educated and articulate. They're not victims of the industry. There are also women producers and directors.

Children shouldn't see it but then neither should they be exposed to the language and story lines they see in soaps or topless models in some newspapers.

Oh dear under the criteria on this thread I'm not normal.

petallus Sun 02-Sept-12 09:59:53

I broadly agree with you vampirequeen. If only all pornography was of the type you describe though.

Incidentally, only one poster thought liking/watching porn was abnormal.

It's obvious that it's normal in the sense that (probably) more than fiftypercent of people watch it/don't mind it.
