If you have a my Waitrose card you can get a free daily Telegraph or a free Daily Mail Monday to Friday every day. I occasionally get a free Telegraph when I'm low on fire-lighting spills - I can't bring myself to pick up a DM even to use for lighting a fire. You can also pick up a free cup of (very nice) coffee if you want.

I always keep up with the news by logging onto the DT website from Oz and was surprised to be barred from it after 20 'goes' this week. Have now started on the DM blush which seems to let me read everything! I much prefer an actual newspaper but have been restricting myself of late to weekends only. Will look into subscribing if it gives you online access too. I haven't subscribed for years as I am away so much and didn't want to waste money on unread papers.

GA that sounds good. Sadly in Scotland there are hardly any Waitrose. There's one in Edinburgh about 15 miles away hmm so not suitable for daily visits!

phoenix I had to google that after you'd posted! Had the song but not who sang it.

I think all newspapers will go behind a paid wall soon. And I think quite rightly so.

Don't usually post much on here but have been following your job seeking. Am so pleased you have a job! Not quite sure when you are going to start it. However, don't even think about the driving. It'll be fine. Once you've done it it'll be a doddle! Will be thinking of you.

I much prefer to read a newspaper while lounging on a settee, laying in bed, soaking in the bath - much better than being hunched over a computer getting a stiff neck.

If you're near a library, you can read all the papers for free.
