Not quite so proud to be British now? The Met continues to have losr the plot - what definition of 'terrorism' includes this episode?

I made a mistake, and referred to Chelsea Manning as him rather than her for which I apologise.
I hadn't realised the extent of neglect/abuse and oppression Chelsea experienced as a child, adolescent and young person until I read about her life recently. When Bradley was born medics suspected the baby had foetal alcohol syndrome. Throughout his childhood the child was neglected and emotionally abused by alcohol abusing parents. Their older daughter became the baby's carer until she left home when Chelsea/Bradley was 7 years old. Chelsea joined the army for two reasons. She was saving to fund her ambition to complete a degree, and she hoped her gender confusion would be cured by a macho environment. Riverwalk, I didn't see the Sky news piece you mention, thankfully. There are so many issues involved in this case, and I continue to hope that Edward Snowdon avoids being returned to the US to face this kind of "justice".

She hasn't worn very well, has she?

Ana Sun 25-Aug-13 11:06:07

The poor woman....hmm

Nonu Sun 25-Aug-13 11:16:12

OH my sweet lord time certainly has not been kind !

I have to say she was a beauty in her time though !

sad for her

Riverwalk Sun 25-Aug-13 11:19:42

Looked just like Nigella Lawson.

It's cruel to take any older woman's photo when she's out and about with her shopping trolley.

Greatnan Sun 25-Aug-13 11:19:42

How cruel and unnecessary. I am sure none of us look the way we did at 20. (Well, except thatbags!) Who benefits from this non-story?

Aka Sun 25-Aug-13 16:33:09

People can be so cruel.

Another Daily Wail attack on women is my response. I don't expect Miss Keeler has had the easiest life and I do dislike this paparazzi approach to "news"

bluebell Sun 25-Aug-13 19:47:04

Good to see misogyny is alive and well on GN

bluebell Sun 25-Aug-13 19:47:53

Amongst certain posters that is

Ana Sun 25-Aug-13 19:59:04

Which posters?

FlicketyB Mon 26-Aug-13 06:34:13

I wish they would show photographs of the journalists at 20 and at 50 or 60, so we could snigger at them, I assume that is the response they wanted. Christine Keeler never sought publicity, although it was thrust upon her at one point of her life. She should be left alone in the obscurity she probably seeks.

I suppose it is a typical silly season space filler, which only makes it worse.

Aka Mon 26-Aug-13 07:52:08

No response Ana wink

Riverwalk Mon 26-Aug-13 08:35:40

I don't see any misogyny ..... those who commented on her looks seem to have done so in a spirit of understanding!

Eloethan Mon 26-Aug-13 23:31:34

That's true but why bring it to anyone's attention in the first place?

JessM Tue 27-Aug-13 08:13:10

That whole genre of taking photos of celebs and ex celebs and sticking them in the paper, or those ghastly mags like Heat is misogynistic in the extreme. Lets criticise women for their appearance folks. Too fat. Too thin. Not lost her baby weight. Lost it too quickly, Overdressed. Bad taste. Bad face lift. No face lift. Failed to dress up and put on face paint to put out the milk bottles. and finally .... had the temerity to get old and wrinkly. Nasty nasty stuff.

nanaej Tue 27-Aug-13 11:44:49

I agree with your comments JessM.

There was no 'news' to accompany the photo so presumably the reason was simply to be unkind and negative about her. No picture of an old Profumo!

gracesmum Tue 27-Aug-13 11:52:15

Totally agree , but with one proviso - ""slebs"" i.e. those who are famous just becasuse they are famous..... must realise that those who live by the sword media, die by the sword media.

Re a picture of him, John Profumo is dead though isn't he?

nanaej Tue 27-Aug-13 12:06:47

Yes I think he is dead but still be pics of him looking less suave than the one they published I am sure! I realise I may be putting myself up for criticism but look here:

ej, I like his looks in no.9 far better than in any of the others. He looks kind in that one.
