Whilst we don't have all the facts, I have read that at least ten people have been killed at the offices of a satirical French magazine in Paris where gunmen have opened fire.

Given the troubled times we are living in should publications try to rein in the content of anything that might be deemed controversial to certain groups because scenarios like this one will make it hardly worth the loss of life/ves, or should free speech prevail at all costs?

So Pope Francis can't preach "about half" his sermons? How do you arrive at that figure? Would 1/3 be OK? Or 1/4perhaps? How have you arrived at your proportion?
Get real. This is a fatuous observation attempting to show some insight into what a religious leader may or may not do. Of course he is highly unlikely to go around punching people, but mothers everywhere will be saying "Quite right too! You don' t pick on my mum!"
Goodness, have you NO sense of humour? Or never heard of " muscular Christanity?
You made a claim a few days ago(Thursday) to "know more about Christianity than the average person" but your posts sadly do not back up your assertion other than a somewhat fundamentalist and literal reading of the Bible- I dare not even use the word "interpretation".

As a child I remember being urged to "know your facts!" I commend that to you.

soutra I don't understand your problem with soontobe's post about the pope. It's quite straightforward. confused

Soutra Fri 16-Jan-15 14:58:59

You've got to admit that a pope should never advocate violence of any kind. soon has got a valid point. But I don't think anyone will run with it.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 16-Jan-15 15:01:49

It's one thing for the likes of us to be understanding about small boys punching their mum's insult ers, but the pope?! No!!! shock

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 16-Jan-15 15:04:33

To anyone on here who might criticise others' posts as "bollocks", may I politely suggest they stop sounding like a fifteen year old in a temper tantrum. It smacks of desperation.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 16-Jan-15 15:05:42

And I don't think soon is being silly. And it's bloody rude to say she is.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 16-Jan-15 15:08:08

It's quite reasonable for at least half of the pope's sermons in the near future to be against violence. How will that tie in with his remark?

Riverwalk Fri 16-Jan-15 15:10:17

Now Jings are you sure you've never described someone's post as "bollocks" or "silly", or worse? wink

I think you said one of my posts was "crap" grin

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 16-Jan-15 15:16:56

I probably apologised soon after!

Riverwalk Fri 16-Jan-15 15:21:00

Is the Pope's mother still alive, I wonder?

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 16-Jan-15 15:21:55

Surely not! grin

Riverwalk Fri 16-Jan-15 15:26:21

How old is he, mid-70s? His old mum could be 95.

Or maybe he has a few elderly aunts.

There was a 95-year old lesbian on Woman's Hour this morning, so anything is possible! smile

soontobe Fri 16-Jan-15 15:28:01

Soutra. Would you like to say what your real problem is with me, if you have one?
It would might save your angst against me for the next few months?
You can say on here, or by pm if you prefer?

Soutra Fri 16-Jan-15 15:29:14

What do interpret as "angst"?

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 16-Jan-15 15:30:57

95 and still a lesbian! Hasn't she given up on the lot of it by now? confused grin

soontobe Fri 16-Jan-15 15:31:14

Perhaps you dont think I know enough.
I am pretty sure I am right in saying that that is ok according to the forum rules!!!

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 16-Jan-15 15:31:35

Soutra - picking holes!

Anya Fri 16-Jan-15 15:31:59

I think this Pope is a rather clever man. He's taken the bull by then horns and said what he thinks - that the cartoons were insulting. Even the Pope is allowed an opinion and free speech.

Then by suggesting a punch on the nose, he is also saying that the barbarous attack by Islamist extremists (or whatever you prefer to call them) was not acceptable.

Had an insulted Muslim walked into the Charlie Hebdo offices and punched the editor on the nose no one very few people would have thought it undeserved. The Pope was perhaps talking about extremes of offence and extremes of responses and taking a metaphorical punch at both at the same time.

soontobe Fri 16-Jan-15 15:33:54

I am not going to disect all my words for you. It is all getting a bit silly dont you think.
If you have a problem with me, take it up with gransnet. Or pm me. Or write it here.

Soutra Fri 16-Jan-15 15:34:57

Just asking what you think " angst" meansconfused

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 16-Jan-15 15:36:31

all about "what the pope said" here

Riverwalk Fri 16-Jan-15 15:37:56

Jenni Murray didn't go into details - it's a family programme wink

I suppose it proves that lesbianism isn't a fad and only for the young.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 16-Jan-15 15:38:42

What does "angst" mean? Does the word come from 'anger' or 'anxiety'? confused

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 16-Jan-15 15:39:56

Oh yes. (But she must have been talking from memory) I would think.
