... are to go on American TV to explain their relationship since the very beginning. They have stated that they love America and its peoples. I wonder if this is to pave the way for another King George.

Good for Charles, whatever the rights and wrongs , Camilla has taken much flack and kept quiet , no public dirty washing or simpering , no camera seeking, she just gets on with life

loopylou Wed 11-Mar-15 14:06:08

I agree totally absent
I met Camilla many times when she lived locally, and she was probably the least pretentious woman I've ever met. HRH should have married her regardless of the fact she was divorced and stood up to the Establishment.

Ana Wed 11-Mar-15 14:07:28

I agree with those in support of Camilla - she sounds like a woman after my own heart! grin

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 11-Mar-15 14:08:32

I like Camilla.

rosequartz Wed 11-Mar-15 14:13:30

Too many meddling family members and courtiers in the 1970's for them to get married then. loopylou she wasn't married when they first started 'going out' then. Charles got sent away as she wasn't thought suitable for him.

And how many of us would be happy with an 'arranged marriage'?

absentgrandma Wed 11-Mar-15 14:16:00

The sad truth is Charles should have married Camilla 40 years ago. But, what's done is done and it seems that HRH has finally settled down into old age with a woman who makes him happy. They now look a handsome, happy couple enjoying their public duties.... all thanks to her.

loopylou Wed 11-Mar-15 14:19:28

That's true, I'd forgotten how long ago all that was! blush
Very few I guess, but generally it's been so in the Royal family for centuries - he could have bucked the trend if it wasn't for such domineering women like the Queen and QM.
I guess Edward VII put the wind up them?

merlotgran Wed 11-Mar-15 14:31:24

I think you mean Edward VIII, loopylou

loopylou Wed 11-Mar-15 14:40:37

blush......

Igranma Wed 11-Mar-15 17:17:40

Do you think we would be better with William instead of Charles?

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 11-Mar-15 17:19:00

No! Leave Charlie alone. He's very sweet. hmm

Anne58 Wed 11-Mar-15 17:25:38

I think Charles and Camilla are probably very happy together, although I still shudder re the tampon remark shock

Cammilla is known to enjoy a drink and the odd cigarette ( I don't mean "odd" as illegal stuff blush

Somehow, I just get a feeling that Charles will never be King.

loopylou Wed 11-Mar-15 17:28:12

I thought their wedding photos were lovely, and her outfits were stunning. It's odd phoenix but I've thought that for some time, very strange.

rosequartz Wed 11-Mar-15 17:48:55

Well, that was in his horoscope when he was born.
HM will carry on until she drops, she has a sense of duty not found often these days.

CelticRose Wed 11-Mar-15 17:50:50

Sorry for delay in getting back to posts. As advertised by that network, CNN is showing on Friday evening at some point. I also wondered if they were doing Oprah and Letterman - same as former SIL. As a much younger person grin I remember an elderly neighbour saying that his now deceased Aunt should have married Townsend and she would have perhaps had a happier life. I believe I read somewhere that fabulous Aunt used to have a lot of plastic work in US. But I will check to verify - it was some years ago. Where was I! Oh! yes. It was CNN who first broadcast the death of Diana at around 10pm UK time. BBC came in about 4am the following morning.

rosequartz Wed 11-Mar-15 17:53:21

There is usually a load of rubbish written in the foreign press about the Royals; the Americans seem fascinated by them. Perhaps they're sorry now that they fought for independence (as Captain Poldark can testify!) grin

soontobe Wed 11-Mar-15 18:03:25

I think that Charles's PR team has done a great job.

merlotgran Wed 11-Mar-15 18:17:47

No, Igranma, I don't think we'd be better with William and not Charles.

Charles had spent most of his life as heir to the throne and been trained accordingly. He may end up having a very short reign or he may even predecease the Queen but I don't think William has any desire to become King until he has to.

Far more worrying than the P of W's uxorious burbling about how the Duchess is supportive and humorous is the thought of him speaking at a health symposium.

Galen Wed 11-Mar-15 18:42:11

I heard on world sevice just after it happened that there had been an accident. I was on our yacht in Jersey St Helier marina and couldn't sleep.
It was really weird the next day as people realised she was dead! Everything closed down apart from the flower shops which sold out!

absent Wed 11-Mar-15 18:46:41

How hard can it be? It surely doesn't take nearly 70 years to learn to be a monarch. HM the Q managed okay with fewer than 20.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 11-Mar-15 19:01:15

I heard it on the World Service too, in our caravan in a field on the Gower Peninsular.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 11-Mar-15 19:03:40

Please ignore that r. thank you. hmm

loopylou Wed 11-Mar-15 19:19:29

I was on night duty and got a call from someone who'd heard. It was just starting to get light, I can remember it very clearly the initial news saying she had a broken leg and it escalating from there on.

Nelliemoser Wed 11-Mar-15 19:27:30

Poor old Charles he was such a shy lad. Given his position in society I get the impression he would have been far happier just being a gardener and a private person. He has made some dreadful choices but it's good he does now seem very happy with Camilla.

It's a pity that the stuffiness of the Royals when he was in his 20s possibly prevented him from the path he would have liked, but he should never have led Diana Spencer on and married her. He was the one with the power, she was too young and too naive to get what he was about.

It probably did not help her confidence and self esteem that she appeared to have been the butt of family jokes, they referred to her as "Brian" the rather dim snail in the Magic roundabout.

But how many of us have done things we now regret.
