Bugger it that's the next election lost.

I am always wary of anyone with charm. People with charm can get away with a lot. I dont care who they are.

Ana Tue 15-Sept-15 17:29:22

rosequartz, I was just thinking back to the General Election too - no shortage of advice and criticism for the Conservatives both before and after! hmm

rosequartz Tue 15-Sept-15 17:29:33

I don't think it was his eye, poor man, it was more what he shiftily did to the pensions - as if he was trying to hide things.

soontobe Tue 15-Sept-15 17:30:27

A bit yes FarNorth. [will say more later]

But if people want to wear them, ok, but not at the same time as Remembrance Sunday.
Have a day in February or whenever.

rosequartz Tue 15-Sept-15 17:30:28

Anyway, 'Handsome is as Handsome does' as my DM used to say
(I think more as a consolation prize to me.)

FarNorth Tue 15-Sept-15 17:31:49

People who have no wish for Labour to win are hardly likely to give them good advice on how to win are they?

soontobe Tue 15-Sept-15 17:35:42

Yes there are better ways but

1.People dont listen
2. People dont stop
3. Meanwhile many further lives can be lost

It is one of those things that is fine in theory. Absolutely fine in theory.

soontobe Tue 15-Sept-15 17:42:09

Not sure there either FarNorth.
In fact I dont think I agree.

When Labour first lost the election, there were many who said that we need to listen to why we lost. And I think they did listen to the floating voters in particular.

Yes, there are going to be new young voters. Yes there are the voters who generally dont vote.
But I would say that on the whole, those that dont normally vote, still wont vote when it comes to it - I could be wrong.
And new voters will br spread about the other parties too, as per normal, probably.

I cant see that many floating voters going for Labour now.
Things can change in 4 years though. Plenty of time for the Tories to mess things up big time.

Anniebach Tue 15-Sept-15 17:45:35

soon, you think a symbol for peace should not be worn the same time as a symbol of remembrance? How strange

Gracesgran Tue 15-Sept-15 17:47:07

Interesting hearing the BBC reporter saying they had not been given the script of the speech at TUC. He seemed quite pleased that he had had to do his job. I don't mean he sounded pro Corbyn just pro proper journalism.

I was interested to hear how many new Labour members have signed up since Saturday too and he certainly hit it on the head with his description of the Conservatives as poverty deniers.

By the next election many of the not abjectly poor but on low to middle incomes will have lost between £500 and well over £1,000 p.a. I wonder who they will vote for. Young people of voting age will also be worse off - they have votes too and people who cannot find housing or who have lost the hard won security of jobs and not just minimum wage jobs - I wonder who they will all vote for. Now they seeing a big pin aimed at the idea that this was the only way. While they were being told that as if it was a truth and no one was really pointing out that it was only an ideology they probably wouldn't have voted at all - I wonder who they will vote for after going through the Tory way to mend the effects of the financial services gaming with our future.

It is a long time until the next election and much can happen between now and then.

rosequartz Tue 15-Sept-15 17:54:10

422,664 people voted in the recent Labour Leadership election.

9,347,304 voted Labour in the General Election

So: there were just over 22 times as many people voted Labour in the General Election as voted in the Labour Leadership election.

Out of the people who voted Labour in the GE and did not vote in the LLE, there may be many who are now disillusioned and will think again opr abstain from voting unless they like the changes that may be brought about in the next four or so years.
That could be a sizeable number of voters, amongst whom are a few I know who, although staunch Labour, are appalled at this result.

Ana Tue 15-Sept-15 17:55:06

Exactly. And not everyone votes purely for their own personal gain, of course, many will take into account the bigger picture and weigh up whether the promises of any party are worth the tablet paper they're written on.

rosequartz Tue 15-Sept-15 17:56:23

X posts Gracesgran and quite interesting from different viewpoints!

Gracesgran Tue 15-Sept-15 17:56:49

Far North I didn't say they were giving good or bad advice I just wonder why they bother when some are so far to the right that no one would take them seriously. I suppose it's just gossip really.

Ana Tue 15-Sept-15 17:59:24

Ooh - who are these GN members who are 'so far to the right' then, Gracesgran? Of course, the same disparaging tone could be used about those on here who are perceived to be 'so far to the left'...

rosequartz Tue 15-Sept-15 18:06:46

Oh, does that mean we won't be able to take the Labour Party seriously if it lurches far to the left now?

confused

rosequartz Tue 15-Sept-15 18:08:18

ps not my view alone that it has lurched too far to the left, I understand even some Labour MPs may feel the same!

Gracesgran Tue 15-Sept-15 18:12:46

Did I say on here Ana? All the world and his wife have an opinion on what Labour should/shouldn't do or what will or wont happen, not just on here.

FarNorth Tue 15-Sept-15 18:13:08

Yes, that's what I meant Gg.

FarNorth Tue 15-Sept-15 18:14:08

Your 17:56:49 that is.

Gracesgran Tue 15-Sept-15 18:14:59

not everyone votes purely for their own personal gain

Of course everyone votes for personal gain. That gain may be that they feel good helping others or making it possible for some to be greatly richer than others but it is still a gain.

rosequartz Tue 15-Sept-15 18:15:03

^ I suppose it's just gossip really.^
Come on, dish the dirt we like a bit of gossip grin

Gracesgran Tue 15-Sept-15 18:20:00

Got it FarNorth smile.

You are right rosequartz some Labour MPs are very discombobulated. In time we will see what conclusions they come to.

soontobe Tue 15-Sept-15 18:24:36

Going by FarNorth's link, the first line says there are better ways to resolve conflict.
So it is not just a symbol of peace in my opinion.

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 15-Sept-15 18:24:48

whitewave the idea of clear blue water between the Tories and Labour fits perfectly my thoughts of what I want to see happen.

Charisma is nice, but interesting is vital.

I'm glad the TU conference is sooner rather than later in his tenure and we can get most of the 'red' references out of the way.
