Bugger it that's the next election lost.

Interesting that you have left out the farmers out of Department of Environment Farming and Rural Affairs. Presumably a 1/3 of her job nad job description.

Labour voting meat producing farmers are going to be right chuffed that their minister is a vegan.

Farmers have something to do with rural affairs too, let alone parts of the environment.

I wouldnt have thought this needed spelling out really.

A vegan appointed as shadow minister of farmers.

soontobe Tue 15-Sept-15 22:45:39

I think I have to assume [I certainly wish to] that you cant really think that it is a good idea.

stb smile

So possibly she may have no sympathy with the plight of the dairy farmers then.
Don't get me started down that road.

Anniebach Tue 15-Sept-15 23:24:35

As soon spoke of the farmers only I just added the two which for some reason she forgot to list or perhaps didn't notice ! , why should she not have sympathy with farmers rosequartz? If you assume she will have no sympathy with farmers because she is vegan then it can be assumed Cameron dismissing the refugees is a racist .

soon, seems to have little knowledge of an the Enviroment

A view from the horse's mouth, so to speak

it can be assumed Cameron dismissing the refugees is a racist

Twisting words again!

Spending £1 billion on helping the refugees, second only to America, one can assume that he is not.

rosequartz Tue 15-Sept-15 23:34:47

But then, if JBC ever gets into power, there will not be £1 billion to spend on helping refugees.

Anniebach Tue 15-Sept-15 23:40:03

soon, far more interesting that you left out the Environment and rural affairs, she Is not shadow minister for farmers , she is shadow Environment secretary

soontobe Tue 15-Sept-15 23:54:51

I couldnt think what the proper name was. I didnt mean to imply to anyone that didnt know, that it was a farming role only. So I can sort of see why you posted what you did.

Actually it is Environment Food and Rural Affairs [thought it was farming].

I think her sympathy is going to be a bit thin on the ground, to say the least.

Perhaps soon was merely making an 'observation' on things as you did Anniebach in your post yesterday 14.15 when you said

'A shadow Secretary of State for Wales who speaks Welsh'. 'Who could forget John Redwood in the job'. Implying you should have some understanding of the position you take.

I see where you are both coming from but many a good minister from all sides have developed excellent skills to cover their brief.

Anniebach Wed 16-Sept-15 00:46:32

POGS, big difference, The Welsh National is praise of our country, Redwood could have stood in silence whilst it was being sung, I said nothing about him not speaking Welsh or him having no understanding of Wales .

soon spoke of farmers which is not included in the title of the office but omitted the enviroment and rural affairs which is. Making an observation?

Anniebach Wed 16-Sept-15 00:49:37

soon, anyone working in the or with the ministry of agriculture that cares about animal welfare is for me great news not something to mock , we all have different views on animal l welfare I suppose

petra Wed 16-Sept-15 08:59:34

I think Charles Clarke put his finger on it when he said that JC is an opposition politician. When he said that, I thought, yes, he's one of those people who always has the answer of how to fix things: but when they have the power to fix things they're like a rabbit it the headlight.

soontobe Wed 16-Sept-15 09:01:48

The ministry of agriculture[or whatever we want to call the job so I dont get into more trouble], is about a whole lot more than animal welfare.

What if say she has to go to Brussells to debate the bad price of beef or whatever, when does she really want the animals alive at all for eating?
[I cant think if the endless ways in which in her stance is inappropriate, perhaps others can post ways].
Actually there are loads of things in the link. A lot of people working in rural affairs are not going to be happy either.

Perhaps I am naive. I always thought a minister was supposed to want to support those who work in the actual industry. I cant see that she is going to want to support farmers rearing animals, when she doesnt want them to do what they are doing.

Pretty sure another writer will write an article sometime about it, who can put it better than I can.

petra Wed 16-Sept-15 09:03:38

I think that this bumbling accentric persona is starting to wear a bit thin.
Another thing hit me yesterday when he was at the service: he's not patriotic. Forget the lack of style or taste: that's unforgivable.

rosequartz Wed 16-Sept-15 09:22:12

Don't worry, folks, don't forget they are the Opposition.
They will have plenty of time to oppose, antagonise and alienate a majority of the electorate before the next election.
(Perhaps starting with some of their own MPs and farmers and many long-time Labour supporters.)

Perhaps Kerry learns fast and will realise that not all farmers are the stereotypical rich huntin' landowners some on the left assume they are.

A curious choice, though, JBC may be a London MP now but he was brought up in rural Shropshire, albeit it in relative affluence, not scratching a living from the land.

I hope Kerry will learn to appreciate where her bread and butter margarine literally comes from.

Anniebach Wed 16-Sept-15 09:23:30

No your not naive soon,

rosesarered Wed 16-Sept-15 09:29:29

these have been my thoughts too Petra and Devorgilla. He has had a happy life on the back benches pursuing his own hobby horses, and being thrust into the limelight and position of power, where he has to bend his own and very personal principles ( because he will have to) will not suit him.
Nobody in Parliament ( Labour MP's) ever expected to have him as Leader,
Nor did they want it, so hard to see how it would ever work.He already looks more haggard, and at his age, I would say that you have to be very ambitious and driven to cope.

MargaretX Wed 16-Sept-15 09:34:21

I can only say as someone who receives her pension in Euros that the £ is sinking against the Euro.

rosequartz Wed 16-Sept-15 09:34:59

I agree with djen's first post on this thread
Give the man a chance

trisher Wed 16-Sept-15 09:38:49

Why shouldn't a vegan be responsible for the environment and rural affairs? Because some farmers breed animals for meat? In that case perhaps anyone with private health insurance shouldn't be responsible for the NHS. At least a vegan will consume some of the products of the country side.
I think the idea that a party can overcome the personality cult which seems to surround leaders now and make policy in a cooperative way is very interesting. A leader is not a dictator just someone who helps a party to move forward.

Anniebach Wed 16-Sept-15 09:44:41

I have certaintly learned here why the Tories won the election given the posts from the right

rosesarered Wed 16-Sept-15 10:08:34

And why Labour lost, from the posts from the left?

TriciaF Wed 16-Sept-15 10:27:49

Soon - you wrote "I always thought a minister is supposed to want to support those who work in the actual industry."
Whant about the minister of education , and the minister of health?

soontobe Wed 16-Sept-15 10:42:07

Them too. All of them.

soontobe Wed 16-Sept-15 10:44:00

A health minister wants doctors and nurses.
An education minister wants teachers.

I dont think a vegan minister wants farmers raising animals to eat.
