Bugger it that's the next election lost.

Wow, that's a depressing looking place jingle. What a peculiar approach to investment, it seems no surprise the Chinese economy is failing. It reminded me of the building and huge increase in property prices in Ireland which fell apart within a few years.

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 19-Sept-15 10:28:29

jingle I saw that on the news the other week - very weird and like those photos you still see of empty tower blocks in old Eastern bloc countries.

soon I couldn't agree more about the tax avoidance issue for the big guns. The Party that tackles this is on to a winner. Yes, there is a balance or risk of businesses threatening to go elsewhere, but far too much money is being lost from our economy. We get Private Eye magazine and sometimes I just have to stop reading some articles when I see the huge amounts HMRC can't get hold of and it's not just about avoidance, it's about big guns dragging the processes out making it so expensive to pursue the money. Then we end up accepting almost token amounts to get a result.

Robin Lustig on why those who have returned to the Labour Party in support of Jeremy Corbyn and his ideals won't actually make any difference when it comes to a General Election.

Fancy the Lib Dems timing their conference to coincide with the RUGBY!
Still not making the best moves .....
And there was me thinking they may be in for a resurgence hmm

You ask why people are on the thread if they hate JC and JMcD so much

Personally (and I can only speak for myself!!) I don't hate either of them.

The thread's title was not 'In Praise of Jermy Corbyn et al'
It sounds as if it was written by a sensible Labour supporter who is as bemused as I am.

Is suppression of free speech on the left-wing agenda too?

Anya Sat 19-Sept-15 11:05:25

It is almost impossible to hold extremist views and not express them in extremist language which discounts all other views.

soon there is a definate crises looming with the slowdown in the emerging markets and the stock exchange fall. China is experiencing real difficulties and as the world's second largest market will have an effect on the UK economy, producing an even bigger slowdown than we are experiencing. So where's the money coming from to pay off the debt GO promised he would achieve? He isn't prepared to promote growth through investment, he can't reduced interest rates much further - forget any income from any savings you may have - so what have we left? More cuts? Well yes I guess if we believe the rhetoric he could pursue that, but let's wait and see if he has the stomach, I have a feeling that he may well not, but we shall see.

rosequartz Sat 19-Sept-15 11:54:42

soon I agree with you re tax avoidance and I don't think anyone on here would disagree.

Gracesgran when I asked some, to my mind, perfectly reasonable and valid questions I was largely ignored. So is discussion and debate to be discarded in favour of diktat and praise for the new leader?

Alleluia, praise to the new saviour of the world.

POGS Sat 19-Sept-15 11:59:18

Gracesgran

I neither 'hate' nor 'loathe' but I have noted those terms used by those on the far left but they are words that are used when the person who uses them has little else to say or is usually uncomfortable with their view no being agreed with.

The use of the word 'hate' 'loathe' when used in a manner to describe a persons 'own' feelings is merely descriptive of the individuals views.

As for the tired thought that only those who like Corbyn should post I will ask this.

If that is how you feel how come thread after thread after thread is started by somebody of a left leaning view to talk about the right of politics. Answer. Because they are entitled to. The same as any poster on this thread is entitled to post.

It is supposed to be an open forum so debate/discussion will be had.

Ceesnan Sat 19-Sept-15 12:20:09

Can you provide a few examples of these nonsensical posts Gracesgran? It could be that what seems nonsense to some is a perfectly valid remark to others. i'm perfectly calm by the way grin

rosequartz Sat 19-Sept-15 12:44:27

Yes, please, we would like any accusations to be evidence-based!

Some may say that The Goons, Edward Lear, Stanley Unwin all spoke nonsense but it always seems perfectly sensible and logical to me

grin

I will be struck off the thread.

thatbags Sat 19-Sept-15 13:09:35

Fat chance of evidence, rq. Requests for evidence are resented in some quarters and regarded as unreasonable.

rosequartz Sat 19-Sept-15 13:42:41

Ah! Got it now; only some are required to give evidence, but not those who demand it!

Actually, I did ask what I thought were some pertinent questions and I would have liked some answers - or at least thoughts from those who seem to know - and has anyone yet answered the OP in a satisfactory manner?

The OP would seem to me to be a perfectly reasonable assumption, judging by comments I have heard from people I know (and in my family) who are staunch Labour supporters but would agree with the original poster.

JBC seems to embody all many people may think is stereotypical of a Left-wing politician - possibly that could be a hindrance if you have a wish for them to win the next GE bearing in mind that the majority of voters are not to the extreme left, more to the left of centre. Long-haired (now cut!), bearded, scruffy, anti-establishment, bike-riding Islington politician. Will that appeal to the ordinary, decent, hard-working Labour voter? Will they identify with him?

Certainly a lot of women seem to do so or are swayed by some sort of charisma if Mumsnet is anything to go by.

rosequartz Sat 19-Sept-15 13:57:51

BUT

My crystal ball tells me that he sees himself as a trailblazer and will remain leader for 18 months to 2 years, do what he can to change the party and its policies then resign and attempt to hand over the mantle (by vote of course) to someone younger but with the same beliefs as himself - possibly modified.

Which may work but could also spectacularly backfire.

Hope that post wasn't too frivolous. grin

Anya Sat 19-Sept-15 14:30:00

David Milliband is waiting in the wings for his cue.....

janeainsworth Sat 19-Sept-15 14:38:19

If David Miliband were at the helm I would be tempted to vote
Labour.
But given the present system to choose the party leader, is there any chance of his ever winning election?

Anniebach Sat 19-Sept-15 14:59:49

rosequartz could be right

Anniebach Sat 19-Sept-15 15:00:41

I referred to rosequartz post which starts with - BUT

Anya Sat 19-Sept-15 15:03:46

However far to the left JC is, I would sooner have him elected to lead the Labour Party than see The Idiot Trump as the next US President. Don't think it can't happen.....a nation that elects GW Bush twice can't be trusted.

A bit of good news for Corbyn supporters.

We may need Corbynomics sooner than we think, although Osborne will give it another name and pretend he has not pinched the idea.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 19-Sept-15 17:19:56

on the other hand sounds alright grin

soontobe Sat 19-Sept-15 19:15:35

Am I right durhamjen, in sensing some sort of panic from you, and that is why you keep mentioning qe or whatever words you choose to use.
You sort of think everything will be all right everywhere as soon as money is printed?

whitewave Sat 19-Sept-15 19:33:17

soon read my reply to you and you will get the drift of what dj is saying. Otherwise you do tend to go around in circles.
