Jeremy Corbyn and Diane Abbot had an affair?

Just read about this on the internet. I think it said it was in the 1970s. Can it be true?

That and the way that Andrew Neil tried with some frenzy to dish his economic policy when interviewing Richard Murphy yesterday with no success just a lot of blood pressure and rude overtalking. I have a feeling that all this rubbish negativity is going to do the opposite to what the right is trying to achieve. It is all so puerile. Having a serious debate is one thing but all this snipping and childish playground nonsense is looking somewhat ridiculous.

I didn't know about the Cameron thing-a drug addict and now a convent after being with him. Must google this for more details. It's much more juicy than JC and DA how come it hasn't been headlined?

Anniebach Fri 18-Sept-15 10:05:52

It was in a biography trisha, I think about three or four years ago, will have to hunt out the book , if I remember correctly it was said to be a serious relationship , can't recall it making the headlines like the relationship of Abbot and Corbyn but the drug taking by George Osbourne was quickly squashed too wasn't it . What really angers me is the affairs of Boris Johnson is dismissed with - good old Boris , even the abortion barely got a mention compared to what we are discussing now

Perhaps she was devastated when they broke up, that's what sent her down the road to self-destruction.
Poor girl, that is sad.

Diane Abbott is made of sterner stuff I'm sure.
if JBC finished it, I'm sure she would have said 'Your loss'

Anniebach Fri 18-Sept-15 10:19:45

No idea rosequartz, I am glad she recovered from her addictions though poor girl. When I read all these press stories of relationships I think what is now frowned on makes me feel I lived a life of debauchery grin

NanKate Fri 18-Sept-15 10:50:18

I have never forgiven Diane Abbott for being two faced and sending her child to a private school when she and her party were anti Grammar Schools and Private Schools.

This isn't meant to start a debate on grammar schools which we had some months back and I had to hide behind the barricade for sometime being an advocate of them, I only sneaked out a week or two back smile

Over and out.

Anniebach Fri 18-Sept-15 11:12:58

Never forgiven is rather strong , what a list of ' I will never forgive because' we could have , relating to politicians

rosequartz Fri 18-Sept-15 11:18:09

OMG what have I missed out on, having led such a sheltered life!

Is it too late to start at my age?

Anniebach Fri 18-Sept-15 11:21:18

Never too late rosequartz wink

NotTooOld Fri 18-Sept-15 11:41:41

gettingonabit - is the photographing of manhole covers true? He-he. and I mock my DH for liking model railways! This thread is hilarious - particularly the socks and the vest. I saw a blue movie once, in my youth. I can't remember much about it (was probably hiding behind the sofa at the time) but I do remember a bloke 'doing it' with his socks on.

TriciaF Fri 18-Sept-15 11:45:56

I was thinking last night, after reading this thread, who didn't have an affair in the 70s? If you were unattached. Our street was like Peyton Place.
New found freedom for women on the pill.

Gracesgran Fri 18-Sept-15 12:01:48

Quite a lot of people are into manhole covers and probably a lot of other things we don't know about. After all I don't know about your hobbies and you don't know about mine. Societies such as the Milestone Society do a huge amount of work in caring for our social history and many of them are also "into" manhole covers. Huge amounts of social history can be tracked from the knowledge they provide.

Tegan Fri 18-Sept-15 12:04:59

Given that I tend to take photos of things such as manhole covers I'm getting to like Corbyn more and more. However, one question does keep crossing my mind; did the fact that beards are now uber fashionable help his cause when standing for election? I am aware that this sounds very daft but he does have [socks aside] the 'look of the moment'.

Gracesgran Fri 18-Sept-15 12:05:14

If you are unattached TriciaF is it an affair. Surely it is a relationship and many (most?) unattached people have relationships.

Anniebach Fri 18-Sept-15 12:11:39

True Gracesgran, ehich is why I said I must have lived a life of debauchery, relationships before marriage , relationships after being widowed , seems now I had affairs , ridiculous .

Ana Fri 18-Sept-15 12:15:19

Surely it's only an abbreviate of 'a love affair'?

I certainly don't see 'affair' as being confined to adulterous behaviour.

Ana Fri 18-Sept-15 12:16:26

Although perhaps they didn't actually love each other - who knows?

Ana Fri 18-Sept-15 12:17:17

(or cares, before someone else says it!)

rosequartz Fri 18-Sept-15 12:41:17

Was he still married though?
In which case she was having an affair with a married man shock

Anyway, I am feeling relief at this gossip news because contrary to what some may think about JC he's
not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy

wink

durhamjen Fri 18-Sept-15 13:50:46

Some people think that Jesus had a love affair with Mary Magdalene.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 18-Sept-15 13:57:16

OPh! Comparing him with Jesus now are we? grin

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 18-Sept-15 13:57:31

Oh hmm

Anniebach Fri 18-Sept-15 14:07:55

Jingle, you will have noticed it is those on the right here who keep bringing Messiah into the discussion yes?

NotTooOld Fri 18-Sept-15 16:48:36

I think Jesus Christ (another JC - whoops, sorry) was actually married to Mary Magdalene. There is a theory that the woman shaped blank on a famous painting of the last supper was a painted-out MM.

Gracesgran Fri 18-Sept-15 18:08:56

Was he still married though? In which case she was having an affair with a married man
Would that be right Roseq. Surely if he was still married (although I understood he was not) he was having the affair and she was in a relationship. That is, of course, if you use an affair in a pejorative sense as the me-ja seem to do.

I feel that an affair is something you pass through. Either to no physical relationship (friends, enemies, just don't care) or a relationship on a firmer footing.

It seems Annie that I too have lived a life of debauchery - I hope my grandchildren appreciate what an interesting life I have led. smile

I think Jesus was married to MM too NotTooOld. As a Jew he would have been married before he reached the age he died. We were not told whose the "wedding at Cana" was but he certainly acted as a host which would be odd if it wasn't his, etc., etc.
