We can't possibly let this slip by!

Tory on Radio 4 this morning arguing that we can't tackle the "treasure islands" that we have sovereignty over as it will lose people jobs!
I was astounded. So it is fine for the Steel workers to face penury but not those who help the wealthy to hide their money.

DC implicated - won't be long before GO is mentioned.

The bigger picture? Over fifty percent of the companies involved in the Panama Papers are British.
That seems quite a big picture to me.

obieone Mon 11-Apr-16 17:36:11

I meant bigger picture as in the tax haven issue itself.

Anniebach Mon 11-Apr-16 17:41:20

Nothing we can do about tax havens, Cameron agrees with them , if the PM doesn't want to stop them then nothing we can do

durhamjen Mon 11-Apr-16 17:44:34

Get rid of Cameron and pals?

www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2016/04/11/if-cameron-is-serious-about-tax-abuse-then-hes-backing-the-wrong-law/

Troup only took over at HMRC on 5th April.
He was appointed in February. I bet that's an appointment Cameron wishes he hadn't made at the moment; to appoint someone who thinks that tax is legalised extortion seems a bit absurd to me.

Nonnie Mon 11-Apr-16 17:47:24

Surely Annie no such thing is acceptable but it is up to the Speaker to determine which are against the parliamentary rules and deal with them accordingly. I don't think that agreeing with such behaviour does anyone any credit.

Annie you don't have any ISAs, pensions or investments? In that case you probably don't have any offshore shares but most people do and my comment was about most people not any individual.

I think it is easy for people to mock what they don't understand, finance is very complicated as is running the country. To take one issue and separate it from the whole is easy but often shows a lack of understanding. To say that this or that should be funded from the public purse without saying what should be removed to pay for it and understanding the implications of such a removal is short sighted.

Can anyone tell me if JC has disclosed anything other than his tax return? Has he denied having any other income?

durhamjen Mon 11-Apr-16 17:50:26

Oh, pat on the head there, Nonnie. Nothing like patronising people who do not have shares/ISAs, etc.

What we do understand is that Cameron is trying to change the rules to suit himself, as he has done since he was in power.

whitewave Mon 11-Apr-16 17:53:08

Does Corbyns lifestyle suggest that he has any other form of income.

Nonnie Mon 11-Apr-16 17:58:13

Nothing like patronising people from the expert in so doing!

I think most people have ISAs, pensions or some other sort of investment and as I have already said for those who choose to ignore it, I was talking about most people. However, there is nothing I can do about people who choose to ignore what I have actually said and interpret it by their strange imaginations.

White I am fortunate to know nothing about Mr Corbyn's lifestyle but I was hoping for a reasonable answer to a reasonable question. Should have known better.

durhamjen Mon 11-Apr-16 17:58:43

Why do you think Corbyn should have any other income other than what is on his tax return?
If you want to know, you can look at www.theyworkforyou.com

daphnedill Mon 11-Apr-16 18:05:50

Nonnie, Where do you get your idea that MOST people have offshore shares? Approximately 50% in the UK don't have any savings at all. I don't know the figures, but I would be very surprised if most people have offshore shares.

grumppa Mon 11-Apr-16 18:25:21

JC's P60 is not his tax return. Or has he released that as well? If he has, what was the point of the P60 being released?

Ana Mon 11-Apr-16 18:26:16

Naivety?

durhamjen Mon 11-Apr-16 18:31:26

He did not release his P60, he released his tax return, all ten pages of it.

rosesarered Mon 11-Apr-16 18:36:21

Oh this is getting too wonderfully dotty for words! Cameron hasn't actually done anything wrong at all ( I did say earlier, let's wait and see) so now he should be' judged for being arrogant'. grin

rosesarered Mon 11-Apr-16 18:38:10

Still, a lot of grans have had some fun hoping he would resign.

durhamjen Mon 11-Apr-16 18:38:32

You do keep saying that, roses. I'd still like to know how you know.

rosesarered Mon 11-Apr-16 18:40:02

Did you watch the Daily Politics ?

rosesarered Mon 11-Apr-16 18:41:15

Enough people have now said that he hasn't done any wrong, has all been legal and all taxes paid. That not good enough for you?

rosesarered Mon 11-Apr-16 18:42:01

I realise it's a disappointment for some of you.

petra Mon 11-Apr-16 18:44:02

I don't know if you realise it durhamjen but even if DC killed his own Mother, the Tories will still win the next election.

Ana Mon 11-Apr-16 18:44:32

Oh, they're still hoping for some Big Revelation that will topple Cameron and his cronies once and for all - dream on...hmm

Anniebach Mon 11-Apr-16 18:46:11

Nonnie, please do not patronise me and with respect if you really believe most people in this country have pensions - excluding state pension- or some other form of investment you need to mix with a wider range of the human race

rosesarered Mon 11-Apr-16 18:49:50

Actually nonnie was spot on, a great deal of people have some other form of pension or investment, ISA etc. We may not be talking huge amounts, but even a small pension added to the state pension adds up.

Anniebach Mon 11-Apr-16 18:51:43

Petra, with reducing the number of labour MP's constituencies and the sweetners they will offer I expect the tories to win the next election , doesn't make them a government of the people, just a givernment of the l'm ok Jack sod the vulnerable voters
