You didn't think I would ignore this did you?

harrigran Fri 03-Jun-16 19:25:57

The only reference I can find to 79% is that is the number of Germans who want us to remain, of course they do Frau Merkel has spoken and we must obey.

Never go to the pub, GandTea.

JessM Fri 03-Jun-16 20:03:55

Nice map on previous page durhamjen but seems to have ignored the views of those of us who live on island!!! #outraged

Anniebach Fri 03-Jun-16 20:04:16

In 1972, DH applied for a job in Abergavenni (ooops sp?), but the job was allocated before the interviews. Very frustrating as driving over and staying one night cost us a lot of money we didn't have, and we blew a gasket on the return on the old TR4 and had to sell it for very little!

I often wonder how I would have got on there - and how quickly I would have learnt the language? Instead we moved to Staffs and had a brilliant 4 years there, despite the first few months being the most depressing of my life.

Practical.....that news has bothered me too.It is time that we had photo identity for all UK voting. On the whole,it has been a very poor campaign, with lies from both sides, and I do not trust that vote counting will be without "errors."

durhamjen Fri 03-Jun-16 20:26:47

Not enough data for Anglesey, Jess, because there are only 82 members.
You need to join and get your friends and family to join.
No idea what the number needed is for it to be enough.

Middlesborough is not enough at 111.

This is interesting. I hadn't realised that Major brought in Disability discriminaton act.
Another reason to vote in.

durhamjen....It would be pitiful indeed,if we could not be relied upon to protect our own environment. As a student in the late 60,s we had concerns about the depletion of ozone, but it was several decades before politicians latched on !!

granjura Fri 03-Jun-16 20:52:07

The UK has been way ahead for a very long time re disability rights and facilities - a million miles ahead to France and my own country. Try and use the Metro in Paris as a disabled person and you'll quickly realise that. When I was disabled in London in 1971- buses and tube were impossible - but now the UK transport system is really disabled friendly. Same for all public buildings, schools, etc- which is not at all the case in France, or here.

durhamjen Fri 03-Jun-16 21:43:54

Granny2016, how many posts are you behind?
Just so I know what you are talking about.

I studied environmental science in the 70s. I know we wouldn't protect our own environment. You just have to look at what farmers did to hedgerows. It depended on what they were paid as to whether they grubbed them up or replanted. If they get paid more to plant GM or organic, they will, regardless of the effect on the soil or biodiversity.

durhamjen Fri 03-Jun-16 21:47:22

Germany as well, daphne.
All those Syrian refugees will be wondering if they are not better off back in Syria.

Just for you, daphne.

durhamjen Fri 03-Jun-16 21:50:16

15th June. When are the floods coming over here?

durhamjen Fri 03-Jun-16 21:55:33

Lots of reasons here to vote to stay in. These people live here and make a contribution to our society. We would be all the poorer if they left.

Gracesgran Fri 03-Jun-16 21:56:12

Anyone see Gove?

Granny2016 Fri 03-Jun-16 22:39:29

durhamjen....re hedgerows. You will be aware then, that farmers were encouraged to remove hedgerows in order to raise food production for a growing population.
Being far more environmentally aware now ,and with world movement of food supplies, farmers are being encouraged to reinstate hedgerows to preserve wildlife and flora,or to leave areas uncultivated.I have environmental concerns re the world movement of food and buy home grown/reared whenever I can.My family were farmers.
If we remain in Europe and the TTIP agreement kicks in,we won,t need to grow GM....the USA will bombard us with it.

durhamjen Fri 03-Jun-16 22:49:34

The only reason we haven't got TTIP yet is because of EU environmental organisations opposing it, not the British government.
I never buy home reared. I've been vegetarian since studying environmental science.

I saw Gove, gracesgran. He's going to save the NHS. Strange that he voted with the government on every vote, never went against the government at all. Maybe if he had, it would not need saving.

Gracesgran Fri 03-Jun-16 23:07:24

I thought it was a telling comment from the guy who said he sounded like a first world war general crying "over the top lads!" with no knowledge of what is on the other side - and we all know the outcome of that. Out of last night and tonight I thought the audience won.

By the way, Jen do you think this separate threads thing will continue for ordinary politics after the referendum, with no threads being derailed because people are miffed with other's views?smile

durhamjen Fri 03-Jun-16 23:20:53

Yes, I thought that, too, gracesgran.
He said don't take any notice of politicians and what they say. Do you think he's forgotten he's a politician?

After the referendum we will need to sort out a better Europe, won't we? That should be a good positive thread, no reason for being miffed.

durhamjen Fri 03-Jun-16 23:21:47

Gove, I mean, not the man.
