You didn't think I would ignore this did you?

suzied Wed 01-Jun-16 20:11:37

Love this message

rosesarered Wed 01-Jun-16 20:12:59

Well, equally, should the Remain votes win, and we stay in the EU, I do hope we won't be bitterly regretting the choice later!
shall we be grown up about the referendum, and accept that here and in RL democracy will prevail, and whichever way it goes, not harp on and on ( ad nauseam)
And cause loads of ill feeling on the threads? Is this too much to ask?

whitewave Wed 01-Jun-16 20:13:43

My sentiments exactly!

whitewave Wed 01-Jun-16 20:15:25

That was to the picture!

rosesarered Wed 01-Jun-16 20:16:14

I didn't imagine it would be to me! grin

whitewave Wed 01-Jun-16 20:19:23

I shall certainly be peeved if members of my family lose their job as a result of out though and will definately moan on and on.

rosesarered Wed 01-Jun-16 20:21:31

We have been warned then.?

granjura Wed 01-Jun-16 20:22:08

Indeed- and if our relatives pensions go down the tube, and our grand-childrens' opportunities for the future are taken away, and if it puts us on dry straw as the £ collapses. I will moan and moan and continue to moan- very loud. Thanks.

durhamjen Wed 01-Jun-16 20:30:13

Democracy, eh?
You have been reading the thread about the Tory corruption in last year's election, I hope, roses.

durhamjen Wed 01-Jun-16 20:31:27

It would also be nice if the Tory hierarchy were grown up about the referendum, but that's obviously too much to ask.

rosesarered Wed 01-Jun-16 20:34:00

Now,you see, you are mixing up your hatred of the Tories with the referendum..... As a lot of people are on both sides.Party politics has nothing to do with it.

durhamjen Wed 01-Jun-16 20:35:14

"George Osborne, the chancellor, and ministers from the UK’s extensive network of tax havens are among key witnesses that MEPs intend to call as part of a major inquiry set to be launched into the Panama Papers.

Leaders of the European parliament meet in Brussels on Thursday to approve the creation of an influential 65-member “inquiry committee”, which is expected to target the tax avoidance industry nurtured by Britain and other European member states."

Osborne hoping you vote out.

JessM Wed 01-Jun-16 20:38:56

It's the two sides in the Tory party that are making this unpleasant roses - they got us into this state and they are slugging it out in a no holds barred battle for the party. The rest of us are understandably aggrieved when so much is at risk.

rosesarered Wed 01-Jun-16 20:44:17

I have already said it is a shambles ( by both sides) but that does not undermine the good case to leave, and ( to the remainers) as they think, a good case to stay. However this is not a party political decision, but what we all want ( or don't want) about the EU.

rosesarered Wed 01-Jun-16 20:46:22

The Conservatives had the referendum at the heart of their manifesto, but there was never going to be all round agreement about staying IN from the back benchers. So this split was bound to happen.

whitewave Wed 01-Jun-16 20:49:48

It is political in as far as the referendum was called as a result of the civil war in the Tory party that has been taking place to a lesser or greater extent for at least 30 years. We are unlucky to have been landed with a spineless PM who tried the appeasement route -we all know where that leads us.

daphnedill Wed 01-Jun-16 21:54:49

@rosearered

I really object to your childish comment. It's not because people aren't going to vote the way I want. It's because they have no rational reason for voting the way they intend. They don't have one single good reason for leaving. They ebven admit they don't understand the issues.

When future historians are writing about the downfall of Britain, the current batch of politicians (and voters) will be worm food.

daphnedill Wed 01-Jun-16 21:59:12

What good case to leave would that be, roses?

durhamjen Wed 01-Jun-16 22:49:57

Not this case, daphne.

OECD says that the referendum is already having an adverse effect on UK economy.

durhamjen Wed 01-Jun-16 22:53:04

And of course it's party political, roses. This is what John McDonnell says

“Today’s OECD report once again shows the absolute failure of the Chancellor’s economic policy. Not only has productivity slumped, but the OECD also highlight the risk of further bubbles in the housing market whilst housebuilding continues at too low a level. Further proof that George Osborne’s recovery is built on sand.

“With the OECD forecasting a dramatic shock to the whole economy from a Tory Brexit, it’s clear we can’t risk failed Tory economic policy any more. We need a serious commitment from this government to invest in infrastructure and housing, backed up by a real industrial strategy to place the economy on a sound foundation and build the high-tech, high-wage economy of the future.”

"The prominent voices in the EU debate have been Boris Johnson, David Cameron, Alan Johnson, and Nigel Farage etc, but where are all the female voices? The discussion has (depressingly and predictably) been dominated by men in suits.

Harriet Harman, Labour’s former deputy leader, has even written to Ofcom to complain that male politicians are being allowed to dominate the EU referendum debate on the airwaves. A Loughborough University report said only one in 10 contributors to the EU debate in the national press were women.

This is woeful, especially considering statistics that showed women are almost twice as likely to answer “don’t know” in most EU referendum polls; and while 43% of men are certain which way they will vote, that drops to just 29% of women.

So, where is the female voice in this debate? Why has it been missing? Leaving the EU could have a more direct impact on women’s rights as without EU protection they could be undermined (under the guise of cutting red tape)."

From today's Guardian. Only 29% of women are sure which way they are going to vote, and they are all on Gransnet.

JessM Thu 02-Jun-16 09:23:39

is that the poll they cite? GN. Much as I love GN, not a scientific poll smile

Yes that difference between men and women is apparent on the streets. Many more men seem decided and more women saying don't know. Maybe they are weighing up the arguments more carefully.
If you approach a couple the man will always answer. Even if you deliberately make eye contact with the the woman.

harrigran Thu 02-Jun-16 09:30:13

There is one woman who is helping to swell the numbers of brexiters ... Pat Glass. Talk about putting brain into gear before opening mouth grin

Anniebach Thu 02-Jun-16 09:37:04

It is political, Boris Johnson was always fir the EU. Since he started his mission to be PM he has used the out campaign to attack Cameron and his lies if not so wicked would make one laugh
