I have done hours of research and if we vote stay in then Junker ect will clamp down immediately and we will have the euro which is a failing currency already plus we will have no protection against flooding the country with immigrants.

Of course we knew if we cared to pay attention practical. It was one of Winston Churchills dearest wishes that the EU should be created and that we should join. Thwarted for a while by De Gaulle. Do you remember the newspaper headlines when he said "NON!" ?

Ana Sat 11-Jun-16 17:48:10

Especially Gordon Brown - tried to get away with it but was caught out!

rosesarered Sat 11-Jun-16 17:51:31

Winston Churchill did not know what a huge bloated thing the baby would turn into though, and no doubt thought that the UK would have a very big say in it.

rosesarered Sat 11-Jun-16 17:52:47

Which is why De Gaulle was worried about us joining probably ( us getting a big slice of the action.)

rosesarered Sat 11-Jun-16 17:53:14

He needn't have worried though.

Jalima Sat 11-Jun-16 18:05:16

33.I liked it back in the olden days when frogs were frogs and Krauts were krauts
And, presumably Rosbifs were Rosbifs grin

daphnedill Sat 11-Jun-16 18:12:48

De Gaulle thought the UK too influenced by America and not committed to Europe.

The UK has a huge say in the EU. What's all this with myth spreading? :-o

daphnedill Sat 11-Jun-16 18:16:44

I believe Clauses 11 and 16 apply. grin

Ana Sat 11-Jun-16 18:27:00

The UK has a huge say in the EU

That's one myth too far, daphnedill! grin

daphnedill Sat 11-Jun-16 18:33:53

In YOUR opinion, Ana grin grin grin

Look no further than the England fans in Marseille to fill some non-expert ambassador roles (to keep Gove happy)...

^England fans chanted “fuck off Europe, we’re all voting out” between violent clashes with police as the European Championship got underway.

Chants of “sit down if you hate the French” were also reported, according to the Guardian.^

Hope the French keep them in custody until the 24th June and EU rules prevent them from deporting the thugs back to the UK. grin

JessM Sat 11-Jun-16 18:49:53

smile
Flower of this great nation obviously. Reasons to be proud.

rosesarered Sat 11-Jun-16 19:06:39

Yes, we have so much influence ( not) in the EU, which must be why Cameron got such a wonderful deal for us ( hollow laugh) back in Feb.

rosesarered Sat 11-Jun-16 19:09:33

Footie hooligans always shout those things when in other countries, they have been doing that since before we were in the EU.You cannot confuse thuggy types abroad for a football match with anything from the EU debate.Well, you can, but it's laughable.

Violence WASN’T England fans: Video proves French street gang ambushed supporters

THIS is the shocking moment a gang of Marseille yobs launched an unprovoked attack on England fans sitting in a bar as clashes between supporters reaching boiling point.

@rosesarered

Of course we have influence in the EU. The reason the UK doesn't always get its own way is because it's a democracy. wink

daphnedill Sat 11-Jun-16 19:28:37

@practical

Just watched a few videos on YouTube.

They don't prove it wasn't England fans.

I wouldn't have expected your favourite rag to report it any other way.

daphnedill Sat 11-Jun-16 19:30:14

@rosesarered

The trouble is these thugs get a vote too. They're called the 'common man'. Remember the character on the end of the seesaw from the Indian lady? wink

Ana Sat 11-Jun-16 19:31:02

Just watched it on the BBC news, daphnedill. It's as practical says.

Welshwife Sat 11-Jun-16 19:37:30

Marseilles is always a bit of a hotbed with a gang culture rearing its head - there was trouble before the English fans arrived. However there are also Russian fans in the mix - it did look from the newsreel shots that the other fans appeared to start most of the trouble and certainly some of the English fans suffered badly.
It is the police I feel sorry for as they really have a hard job. It will be interesting to see what happens in Lens when the English/Welsh game is played - they are cutting down on the supply of alcohol. Looking at the news footage the game between Wales and Slovakia in Bordeaux appears to have been peaceful.

practical Sat 11-Jun-16 19:50:52

dd you should have watched the BBC news then, the reporter there said same as that news article but then again if I put it you probably don't believe that

practical Sat 11-Jun-16 19:55:29

I wouldn't have expected your favourite rag to report it any other way.
the guardian must be right then if that's your favourite rag
wonder what other lies they state

practical Sat 11-Jun-16 19:57:40

Ana glad someone else saw the news.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 11-Jun-16 20:01:22

It's thoroughly disgraceful that English fans are misbehaving in France. No excuses possible. As if the French police haven't enough to deal with in protecting everyone from the threat of terrorism. These stupid people should grow up and start using the bit of brain power they might possess. hmm

daphnedill Sat 11-Jun-16 20:10:18

And I've watched some footage on YouTube from different angles. It's not conclusive.

In any case, my post was intended to be semi-flippant as the topic under discussion was experts.

Diplomats are trained to be...er...diplomatic and to arrive at solutions without escalating problems. That's why they're experts in diplomacy. I was just highlighting what can happen when non-experts/the 'common man' sorts out a problem, whoever started it.

practical Sat 11-Jun-16 20:11:51

the French attacked the English fans was the English supposed to let them without fighting back?
