Oh dear, I hope everyone realises that this is just the thuggish element; all these 'fans' of all nations will probably be your nightmare next door neighbour at home too.

I doesn't make me ashamed to be British, it just makes me despair of some elements of society, here and abroad.

In that BBC news footage most of the people were not wearing an easily identifiable team shirt but the English fans were in the main sitting outside a bar when thugs descended upon them pulling down their English flag and attacking them. Naturally they did retaliate.

Oh yeah! The French police just attacked English fans with no provocation whatsoever?

If the English fans had been proper Englishmen, they would have walked away.

One of them (caught on camera) does have a special skill. He managed to put the boot into somebody on the ground while still hanging on to a glass of beer. Eng-er-land! Way to go!

As DH says, never start an argument, but always be prepared to defend yourself. That doesn't mean running away.

The fans should have got themselves out of the way of trouble at the first sign of it happening. Waking away can be a good idea.

I don't think the footage this evening showed many police at all but some people were attacking others by kicking when they were in the ground in a vicious manner - I have no idea of the nationalities but the reporter said that a man left on the floor was an injured England fan.

And this is just football!!

FWIW, I believe English, Russian and French fans were involved, but it's interesting how it inspires nationalistic offloading of blame.

Ah well! I'm sure these non-expert ambassadors will make fine real ambassadors and we'll have world peace in no time.

I read some tweets blaming the French for their style of riot policing. Errmmm...it's their country. I don't suppose they take too kindly to foreigners telling them to change their style.

But we're supposed to accept being told what to do by 'foreigners', are we?

Football fans of ALL countries cause trouble, stupid just to single out the English fans.That makes them , or a lot of them, thugs.

Rightly, we dislike our footie fans making a scene anywhere, but need to aknowledge that sadly , there are other countries just as bad.
