We should think of Jo at the ballot box

Stephen Kinnock was a good friend of Jo Cox. He has written an article in my paper about the closeness of their families. I have no problem with most of what he has written apart from the instruction that we must think of her when we vote!
I am appalled by what has happened to her and feel great sympathy for her family but
I fail to see that her death has anything to do with the way I vote!
Am I wrong To feel that this appeal is rather distasteful?

Have you seen the pi chart issued by HMRC? It clearly shows how little of the UK budget goes to the EU - it is so small it is little wider than a thick pencil line! The smallest outlay by far and the next is foreign aid. Schools and pensions cost about the same as each other - quite a slice - and the NHS is such a huge cost that spending all the EU money on it would make little difference,
The numbers involved in national spending are so huge they are almost incomprehensible and so what sounds like a huge amount to us 'normal' people is in fact very very little in budget terms.

This is fairly easy to say.

The amount of money paid to the EU has been colossal. And think of other countries paying into it daily/weekly/yearly as well.

Yes, it does pay out some money to areas, that may not have got so much otherwise??
But dont think for one moment that it doesnt cost anything much to run the EU!!

Of course we are still part of Europe if we leave. We seem to have no choice. We cannot not be part of Europe as far as I know. It seems to be based purely on geography. We cannot suddenly decide to be part of Asia as far as I know, even if we wanted to.

But the point is we wouldn't have done, Firecracker.
They are all up North. The EU gives money to districts that are poor. The government doesn't. The Northern Powerhouse is a fallacy. It's a way of blaming the councils for not doing enough when they have no extra money.

It is not possible to make a judgment based on facts, because that would require being able to foretell the future.
Voting remain means that we believe we are part of a large community. Leave is a denial of that.

whitewave Mon 20-Jun-16 18:55:17

Oh that would be the £350 million we are giving to the NHS.

Firecracker123 Mon 20-Jun-16 18:52:39

durhamjen I am sure we could have built and paid for The Sage, The Baltic and the Millennium Bridge ourselves if we were not paying billions to the EU every year. You make the EU sound like a charity.

whitewave Mon 20-Jun-16 18:49:41

All the FACTS on migration are there on the last week thread. It seems to me that Brexit have fooled many people. One wonders what will happen once the voter realises he's been made a fool of.

Farage is going to be speaking at the Sage tonight. I hope there are a lot of Hitachi employees there, either inside or out.
The Sage was built with EU money, as was The Baltic and the Millennium Bridge.

Anniebach Mon 20-Jun-16 18:17:01

I am sure the employees agree with him !

durhamjen Mon 20-Jun-16 18:15:01

Just been visiting my mother in law in her new care home.
On the way there I heard on radio newcastle that Honda are going to sue voteleave as they never gave them permission to use the logo on their leaflets.

On the way back, I heard Boris Johnson saying that he thought that Hitachi leaving the UK was a price worth paying.

Anniebach Mon 20-Jun-16 18:06:01

Nothing clever in speaking the truth Jalima, what a strange view on honesty

Anniebach Mon 20-Jun-16 18:04:42

Yes Granny 2016,

Granny2016 Mon 20-Jun-16 17:38:09

The beliefs of Britain First is at the heart of why the country will vote with or without.

Can you clarify this Anniebach?

Based on your decision to vote remain ,because of not being of the same mind set as Britain First.

Jalima Mon 20-Jun-16 17:25:31

Quite clever semantics Anniebach smile

Or 'never assume anything' as a friend always says

WilmaKnickersfit Mon 20-Jun-16 17:17:47

Very moving piece on the BBC news just now. sad

Anniebach Mon 20-Jun-16 17:14:52

Granny2016, yes I noticed who assumed as you did, I explain then the difference between 'I' and 'all' they seemed to have missed that, far more understood the difference and didn't make the assumption you and a couple of others did.

Granny2016 Mon 20-Jun-16 17:09:22

Anniebach.....You will have noted that several responses were made to you,who took the same meaning as myself.
Perhaps your post wasn,t too clear.

obieone Mon 20-Jun-16 16:43:54

I agree Jalima. But I am just saying that practical has messed about with what was actually said by at least ommissions. Copying and pasting going on to suit as far as I can see.

Jalima Mon 20-Jun-16 15:52:12

obieone there was at least one thread on here about concerns over TTIP and how we should all be worried about it.

Somehow it seems to have been put on the back burner, but I am sure it was people who are advocating Remain who were concerned about TTIP which is why I got confused

practical Mon 20-Jun-16 15:49:24

obi it's been coming out ever since Obama went for secret talks with merkel it will be them two who decide

practical Mon 20-Jun-16 15:45:54

Elle
nothing in TTIP would affect how the NHS in the UK operates at the moment;
notice things like at the moment this is the get out for them when it happens
Just look up TTIP and read more than one view

practical Mon 20-Jun-16 15:42:04

This keeps coming up about the NHS and I know the usa would love to destroy our NHS they wont give up
I just hope one day in the future I am not having to say I told you and you wouldn't believe me because if that happens we wont be able to afford the NHS services

obieone Mon 20-Jun-16 15:01:57

practical, I think what you have written is a little naughty.
You have not mentioned

this came out on May 3rd
the health spokesperson, Louise Bours, is a UKIP one

Can't be bothered to find other discrepancies.

Jalima Mon 20-Jun-16 14:51:35

POGS, I think that is quite the nastiest post I have seen.
You obviously have not read all the recent threads then djen - or all the links.
That was a quote from a link

Alea Mon 20-Jun-16 14:46:22

Or a man with an eye for the main chance if DC and GO go down.
Cynical, moi?
