I mentioned Liverpool, Manchester and the Wirral, because Riverwalk wrote (jokingly) "Serves them right for voting for Brexit!" I am well aware that the small towns of the North West voted for Brexit, but Manchester, Liverpool (and Leeds, which also narrowly voted Remain) are likely to be at the centre of the Northern Powerhouse.
George Osborne and the Northern Powerhouse- help!! Can Newcastle just annex itself to Scotland please. Historically it has been conquered quite a few times, I'm sure another one would be OK especially if we can stop GO at the border.
You would have to come down further than Newcastle. I think quite a bit of the North would like that solution. Having said that (and I get no pleasure in saying this) at least GO may keep some of the concentration on the north as it has swung away very quickly.
I should add that he seemed to be putting the infrastructure between the cities as the highest priority and I believe this is more important than HS2 although I may have been hearing what I wanted to hear.
What does it matter, which towns voted Leave, and which Remain? it's done, it's over. No towns /cities voted all one way anyway, it was close it many places. 'Newcastle didn't vote for Brexit' ......it was damn close! and so what, anyway?
DD like me, you don't live anywhere near the North, but I Would have thought, that if GO was still interested (as a back bencher )in the aim of helping the North in any way at all, then that fact has to be applauded.
Yeh but us Northeners have something known up here as "nouse". In this case it means the ability to see through people like GO and know he isn't in it for our benefit or the good of his health but that he will undoubtedly be lining his own pockets very nicely thank you. (Sorry that those down south lack this ability)
But I come from the North and am almost certainly going to move back in the next few months. I left all those years ago, because I couldn't find a job and have wanted to move back for years.
In any case, why is this relevant? It doesn't mean that I don't care about parts of the country which have been neglected for decades.
I haven't attacked GO, just said that I'm reserving judgment. GO is MP for Tatton, which he probably thinks makes him a Northern MP, but I wonder if he has ever moved beyond the leafy Cheshire countryside. I suppose infrastructure projects will give him a reason to wear his favourite hi-viz jackets.
I haven't attacked anybody, roses. Are you trying to stir?
Regenerating the North makes sense for everybody, not least because it would take pressure off house prices in the South East, if more jobs are created in the North.
I didn't say that I said we had "nouse". Evidence that all the people who decided they agreed with Corbyn after Traingate are and I quote "Idiots" Not my fault if you don't understand "nouse"
It was the other way round. I know daphnedil that's why I amended it in my subsequent post My brain knew what I wanted to say but my fingers decided otherwise
