New thread folks!

Helps keep track of new cabinet and her early days. Will be interesting.

Jalima Fri 16-Sept-16 21:34:33

for remaining!

Gracesgran Fri 16-Sept-16 22:16:23

So, George Osborne has started a Think Tank for the Northern Powerhouse ... interested ... not interested?

POGS Fri 16-Sept-16 22:32:35

Theresa May is.

daphnedill Sat 17-Sept-16 00:48:42

@POGS

I mentioned Liverpool, Manchester and the Wirral, because Riverwalk wrote (jokingly) "Serves them right for voting for Brexit!" I am well aware that the small towns of the North West voted for Brexit, but Manchester, Liverpool (and Leeds, which also narrowly voted Remain) are likely to be at the centre of the Northern Powerhouse.

daphnedill Sat 17-Sept-16 00:51:19

@Jalima

It was the other way round.

trisher Sat 17-Sept-16 09:02:57

George Osborne and the Northern Powerhouse- help!! Can Newcastle just annex itself to Scotland please. Historically it has been conquered quite a few times, I'm sure another one would be OK especially if we can stop GO at the border.

Gracesgran Sat 17-Sept-16 09:18:17

You would have to come down further than Newcastle. I think quite a bit of the North would like that solution. Having said that (and I get no pleasure in saying this) at least GO may keep some of the concentration on the north as it has swung away very quickly.

Gracesgran Sat 17-Sept-16 09:22:09

I should add that he seemed to be putting the infrastructure between the cities as the highest priority and I believe this is more important than HS2 although I may have been hearing what I wanted to hear.

durhamjen Sat 17-Sept-16 12:20:55

Historically Northumberland goes right down to the Humber, so we'll join you, trisher and Gracesgran.
M62 is the new Antonine wall.

trisher Sat 17-Sept-16 15:32:41

OK it's shoulder to shoulder then- He shall not pass!

daphnedill Sat 17-Sept-16 15:40:15

I'm reserving judgment on this until I know what GO is intending to do and whether he does actually manage to get more money for the North.

rosesarered Sat 17-Sept-16 15:42:40

What does it matter, which towns voted Leave, and which Remain? it's done, it's over.
No towns /cities voted all one way anyway, it was close it many places.
'Newcastle didn't vote for Brexit' ......it was damn close! grin and so what, anyway?

rosesarered Sat 17-Sept-16 15:45:25

DD like me, you don't live anywhere near the North, but I Would have thought, that if GO was still interested (as a back bencher )in the aim of helping the North in any way at all, then that fact has to be applauded.

rosesarered Sat 17-Sept-16 15:47:21

So I am agreeing with your post btw.

trisher Sat 17-Sept-16 15:51:25

Yeh but us Northeners have something known up here as "nouse". In this case it means the ability to see through people like GO and know he isn't in it for our benefit or the good of his health but that he will undoubtedly be lining his own pockets very nicely thank you. (Sorry that those down south lack this ability)

rosesarered Sat 17-Sept-16 15:52:59

I am from Yorkshire.

rosesarered Sat 17-Sept-16 15:55:12

Are we attacking others from a North/South divide now then?

daphnedill Sat 17-Sept-16 15:58:15

@rosesarered

But I come from the North and am almost certainly going to move back in the next few months. I left all those years ago, because I couldn't find a job and have wanted to move back for years.

In any case, why is this relevant? It doesn't mean that I don't care about parts of the country which have been neglected for decades.

I haven't attacked GO, just said that I'm reserving judgment. GO is MP for Tatton, which he probably thinks makes him a Northern MP, but I wonder if he has ever moved beyond the leafy Cheshire countryside. I suppose infrastructure projects will give him a reason to wear his favourite hi-viz jackets. grin

daphnedill Sat 17-Sept-16 16:00:09

I haven't attacked anybody, roses. Are you trying to stir?

Regenerating the North makes sense for everybody, not least because it would take pressure off house prices in the South East, if more jobs are created in the North.

daphnedill Sat 17-Sept-16 16:02:22

@roses

Just seen your post of 15:47, so apologies for writing that you were attacking me.

suzied Sat 17-Sept-16 16:10:55

So southerners " lack the ability" to see through the likes of GO? Sorry? Evidence? Divisive or not?

rosesarered Sat 17-Sept-16 16:11:54

smile

rosesarered Sat 17-Sept-16 16:16:58

The smile was to DD

trisher Sat 17-Sept-16 17:44:11

I didn't say that I said we had "nouse". Evidence that all the people who decided they agreed with Corbyn after Traingate are and I quote "Idiots" Not my fault if you don't understand "nouse"

Jalima Sat 17-Sept-16 18:43:24

It was the other way round.
I know daphnedil blush
that's why I amended it in my subsequent post
My brain knew what I wanted to say but my fingers decided otherwise
