Jalima Some people are having difficulty understanding that the remain camp lost the vote. They failed. They lost. They came second.

varian Sat 03-Sept-16 11:46:46

Lets not forget only 37% voted to leave. Those who did not vote were presumably happy with the status quo.

We live in a parliamentary democracy so there must be a free vote in parliament before billions are needlessly spent on the destruction of our ties with our Europeaen neighbours.

For their own reasons Rupert Murdoch and the rest of the tax evading plutocrats who control most of our press helped to bring about this mess, cheered on by Donald Trump, Marine le Pen and Vladimir Putin.

diybrexit.38degrees.org.uk/howwegothere

Is this what you wanted, Nandalot?

durhamjen Sat 03-Sept-16 12:04:04

I notice over 51% of those who responded strongly agree that the £350 million a week should go to the NHS, and another 30% agree.
I guest those Brexiteers on here who disagree aren't members of 38degrees.

Nandalot Sat 03-Sept-16 12:57:30

Yes. Thank you,DJ. How do you do a link?

Anya Sat 03-Sept-16 14:44:45

DJ I bow to,your superiority in being able to spell the word whingeing if not your ability to recognise it in yourself.

varian your ability to manipulate statistics to suit your own agenda is truly incredible, in the original meaning of the words

why am I bothering....????

durhamjen Sat 03-Sept-16 15:32:30

Tony Blair? Whingeing?

Are you not a retired secondary school teacher, Anya?
Shouldn't you be able to spell?
Just asking - not whingeing.
You never whinge, of course.

durhamjen Sat 03-Sept-16 15:36:04

"Dishonesty damages politics. Political Advertising should be held to at least as high a standard as other adverts. Give the Advertising Standards Authority the power to clamp down on dishonest political leaflets and adverts".

Nandalot, I notice less than 2% disagree with this.
Shame it wasn't asked pre referendum.

Ana Sat 03-Sept-16 15:40:03

Yes, as it applied to both the Leave and the Remain campaigns. The dishonesty on both sides probably cancelled each other out!

durhamjen Sat 03-Sept-16 16:43:06

" The Sun is calling for the return of blue Brit passports, ditched for EU-backed burgundy.

Restore our once-proud fishing industry, scrapping tough EU quotas.

Axe EU-imposed VAT on gas and electric for cheaper energy bills.

Have cleaner carpets by swapping weak, EU-regulated vacuums for powerful ones.

Have drier hair by avoiding planned EU energy rules on powerful hairdryers.

Defend our morning tea and toast by using appliances free of energy constraints.

See the light by bringing back the incandescent bulb, phased out by EU regs.

Reclaim “jam”, as the EU says less than 60 per cent sugar means it’s a “fruit spread”.

Recycle tea bags, which a council banned amid EU fears over spreading disease.

Reclaim countryside from turbines and solar panels, built to meet EU targets."

This is what the Sun says Brexiteers voted for.

Did you really?

Anya Sat 03-Sept-16 16:45:19

Firstly I never mentioned Tony Blair DJ confused

No, I'm not a retired secondary teacher confused

And finally, I almost never whinge, being known for my stoicism in face of loss, fire and broken bones ?

Anya Sat 03-Sept-16 16:50:57

But I will admit that certain words I rarely see written down (such as bugger) occasionally, aided and abetted by my iPad and achy finger, do get me noticed by you. So I admit I'm not perfect. ...how about you?

Anya Sat 03-Sept-16 16:52:49

PS We were forced to,take an English for Scientist course and exam in the 6th form....does anyone else remember that circa 1965ish.

Ana Sat 03-Sept-16 16:53:18

I can vouch for that, Anya - never heard you whinge once since you've been on GN. Or go on about your injuries, apart from the basic facts!

I never read the Sun myself, durhamjen, and wouldn't take what they print as 'the truth', although you obviously do.

Anya Sat 03-Sept-16 16:54:47

Thank you Ana

politicalscrapbook.net/2016/09/the-brexit-department-now-has-its-own-twitter-account-and-its-already-being-trolled-badly/

I am a retired teacher, so I can spell. I have a broken wrist, so quite often make mistakes in typing but try to correct them if it doesn't hurt too much by the time I have noticed.
If you call me a whinger, of course I notice, especially if it is spelled wrongly.

I mentioned Tony Blair, but you ignored it.

Ana Sat 03-Sept-16 17:00:31

Going on about your broken wrist again, durhamjen? Lots of Gransnetters have worse problems.

Back to the Guardian - you're so fickle! grin

Hmm...I think that post should be reported.

Tegan Sat 03-Sept-16 17:12:54

Why? It's true..sad...

Ana Sat 03-Sept-16 17:14:17

What is?

Tegan Sat 03-Sept-16 17:20:45

Following jen around and critiscising everything she says sad.

Ana Sat 03-Sept-16 17:24:21

What a load of rubbish! There aren't that many news/political threads on GN at the moment - pretty hard to avoid a post by durhamjen if you look at any of them!

durhamjen Sat 03-Sept-16 17:46:13

Going on about your broken wrist again, durhamjen? Lots of Gransnetters have worse problems.

What was necessary or political about that comment, Ana?
You don't have to comment on everything I say.

As I said, why did you not criticise Anya for mentioning broken bones?

Badenkate Sat 03-Sept-16 17:52:47

I voted to stay, but I must admit I'd really like my blue passport back again. When we moved to Switzerland we all still had our blue passports and when one of my DSs went on a school trip to Germany, they had to take their passports with them, and the teacher passed his all round the class for them to admire.
That's my only contribution to this discussion. It would be nice to have a constructive political discussion on GN, but unfortunately any that start become more and more unpleasant between fewer and fewer contributors as the posts go on. No doubt this also will be subject to some unpleasant comment.

Ana Sat 03-Sept-16 17:56:57

I think my post of 16.53 answers your last sentence.

In the meantime, while the PMs are no doubt flying to and fro I'll leave you to it, but would point out that you have been accused of nastiness yourself on more than one occasion. Seems that you can give it but not take it.
