Dbroon your post would have been more effective if you hadn't put the railway related bits in bold. Just left them for posters to pick up on themselves.
Just saying.

Traingate
(833 Posts)The silliest thing about the Corbyn "Traingate" fiasco is that before the railways were privatised, I often had to sit on the floor toing and froing between Preston and Edinburgh. Sometimes there was no buffet car. And the toilets were often disgusting.
I guess Corbyn didn't travel by train much back then
However, the trains I travelled on usually had more space for luggage than current Virgin trains.
07.46 one.
Who are 'us' Trisher ? a select few, all on this thread?
Anyone reading this Annie- but if you don't want to that's fine. I just wondered.
For a bit of light relief and to get a runaway thread back on track
www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFJ3KayeUTc
But everyone reading this thread may not want to know Trisher , best you wonder , I don't want to be the cause of Eleothan getting so agitated and abusive yet again
Anniebach renationalising the railways wouldn't cost anything it would be done as the franchises ran out.
But they don't all run out at the same time, so it would be a hotch-potch for many years.
I agree that we need a 'joined-up' (to coin a phrase) railway system, it seems to be very disjointed at the moment, like the curate's egg - good in parts.
However, t is not in the rundown state it was at the end of nationalisation despite carrying double the number of passengers.

Jalima it is largely in a better state because of the subsidies it still receives from the state. It would take years to completely re-nationalise but no worse a hotch-potch than it is now.
Interesting that most countries have Nationalised rail systems.
'Myth 4 – UK rail privatisation is a better deal for the taxpayer
The cost of running the railway has more than doubled in real terms since privatisation from £2.4bn per year (1990–91 to 1994–95) to approximately £5.4bn per year (2005–06 to 2009–10).
Official figures show that all but one of the private train operators in the UK receive more in subsidies than they return in the form of franchise payments to the government. In 2013–14, the government contributed £3.8bn to the UK rail industry.
The top five recipients of public subsidy alone received almost £3bn in taxpayer support between 2007 and 2011. This allowed them to make operating profits of £504m – over 90 per cent (£466m) of which was paid to shareholders.'
We are paying for it anyway, and paying for the shareholders profits, so why should the British government not be the shareholders, instead of the French, German and other governments?
Actionforrail is organised by the TUC
If Corbyn had not used Virgin Trains for his ridiculous publicity stunt then this would not be in the public domain.
Perhaps with hindsight Branson / Virgin would have been better off taking Corbyn to court and challenged him over the words spoken in his video which were inaccurate and the use of a Virgin train to do so.
The fact Corbyn has over time dug himself into a bigger hole by admitting the train was not 'rammed pack' as his video stated and wanted to find two seats together for him and his wife but for some peculiar reason chose to sit on the floor instead of a seat has made him look nothing more than a charlatan .
The fact McDonnell has called for one of Labours biggest donors to be 'stripped of his nighthood' merely cements the view the Corbyn Team are living in a bubble and cannot hack one jot of criticism or being taken to task over their poor public relations.
It's almost puerile behaviour but McDonnell is renowned for saying 'I was only joking' when the s--t hits the fan so perhaps IF and WHEN Branson gives another few million quid to the Labour coffer McDonnell can say it again.

What's wrong with Actionforrail being organised by the TUC?
You seem to be going against everything the labour party stands for.
POGS, it wasn't a stunt. He did actually need to get from London to Newcastle that day, and it was on a crowded train.
Virgin broke its own rules and is being investigated for breaking the data protection act.
Now that is quite important to me, particularly as the NHS thinks it can still sell our data through care.data
Why is there a consensus by Corbyn supporters to deny there could be so much as a whiff of the old MILITANT Party (Trotskyist group) , now called The SOCIALIST Party (Trotskyist) or other far left groups involved with Momentum?
I don't understand how it can be denied .
I do understand however that the annoyance by those who are Corbyn supporters feel let down by Anniebach as in the past there has obviously been a comradery between you but she is standing her ground in her view over Momentum, which let's face it was set up for the support solely for Corbyn as Leader of the Labour Party, alongsiide the connections with groups that are known as far left/Trotsky in make up.
It is also disingenuous to give the opinion that it is basically an In House matter and others should not comment whilst the same posters who are eluding to this happening are quite happy to place post after post on threads that if that principle applied would be told to 'but out' too.
I asked previously this question and had no response so I will ask again.
To those who have joined/rejoined Labour because of Corbyn but have openly stated they no longer voted Labour for years on GN will you continue to be Labour Party members if he did loose the Leadership contest?
It was a stunt!!!
Then it should go to court with full CCTV seen, proof there were no empty seats , the stunt wasn't him travelling from London to Newcastle, it was sitting on the floor filming for national viewing because there were no seats as said by his Momentum spokesperson the same dsy, she also said the seats ehich looked empty were taken up by small children and parcels. Following day no mention of seats taken by children but there was not teo seats together . Two seats together doesn't mean there was not single seats available.
He filmed himself on the train before virgin released their CCTV footage, so did they disclose the fsct he was on the train and he is annoyed this wasn't kept private . I think Virgin were right to defend the company against lies , but just my opinion because I dislike lies ,
The now socialist party was the Militant party, change of name . I am curious why those who claim to have been members of the Labour Party and collected money for the miners strike have no opinion on Derek Hatton, Peter Taffe, George Galloway and co. Their expulsion from the Labour Party and Corbyns campaign to get them into the party again. Naturally one thinks they must support these militants being brought back into the party, they would certaintly have voiced their views if not. No opinion on the disasterous 1983 election either
Virgin have broken the law. That's okay, is it?
By the way, Virgin are now saying thankyou to Corbyn for pointing out that they need more seats on trains and more trains. As if they didn't know!
Breaking the law is not ok, making false allegations is not ok. I saud it should go to court
What are your opinions on Hatton, Galloway and Taffe Jen? Should they be accepted back into the party?
FGS, why on earth didn't this silly man book enough seats for his party like any normal person would?! Reserved seats are for everyone not just the privileged few, anyone can do it and there is no extra cost so what point are you trying to make? That you were too foolish not to secure seating for yourself and your party?!!! It was a ridiculous stunt, which has made this poor man look a complete fool to the despair of serious Labour voters/ members.
Ok - he's right down in my estimation now. 'Jam packed' in my mind does not equate with 'we can't find 2 seats together'!
If Corbyn set the stunt up himself or if it was set up by the momentum team travelling with him it shows he is either devious or not able to think for himself
