Mosborough (Sheffield) result:
LDEM: 45.6% (+31.8)
LAB: 34.1% (-9.2)
UKIP: 12.4% (-9.8)
CON: 6.1% (-7.9)
GRN: 1.8% (-1.3)

The LibDems won a council seat from Labour yesterday with a huge swing. Does anybody know this seat and know what's going on?

As a member of the labour party who does know several Labour MP's personally I would appreciate advice

The leader of the party wants members to have a vote in selecting his shadow cabinet , who would make a really good education minister, Home Secretary, foreign Secretary, defence Secretary - health and chancellor has been decided.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of the Labour MP's , who is the best man/woman for the shadow cabinet , this is a heavy burden to place on members is it not?

The few I know are on the momentum deselection list so they don't count.

Do I toss a coin, draw their names from a hat?

Anniebach Mon 19-Sept-16 10:13:06

Oops, sorry , forgot Diane Abbot and McDonald are secure, one a former bed companion and the other the leaders campaign manager and spokesman

trisher Mon 19-Sept-16 10:13:57

You look at their voting record and their questions record Annie. You can access it on They Work For You. Most MPs also have websites and express what their particular areas of interest are on there. You could as you know them as well ask what they would like to do most.

durhamjen Mon 19-Sept-16 10:14:44

Annie, do you think you have actually persuaded a single person on her who might have voted for Corbyn to change his or her mind and vote for Smith?

You have given no positive reason to vote for Smith.

durhamjen Mon 19-Sept-16 10:17:28

It's not a heavy burden to place on members.
They are, after all, used to discussing and debating.
He's not asking the general public.

Anniebach Mon 19-Sept-16 10:18:55

But trisher, no point in asking the one's I know, they are on Momentums deselection list and the leaders hit list so will not be MP's, there will be so many new MP's with no voting record

durhamjen Mon 19-Sept-16 10:20:52

Good idea about theyworkforyou, trisher.
You can even put a word or a phrase in, and you will be alerted every time it is discussed in parliamentary debates, and you will be directed to the person involved, too.

trisher Mon 19-Sept-16 10:36:33

If they are deselected then I suggest you approach the replacement and ask a few questions- not too difficult surely! MPs do leave and retire so some new people are always there and they are usually very keen to share their ideas. Really Anniebach I do think it might be a good idea if you started looking at solutions rather than problems.

daphnedill Mon 19-Sept-16 10:37:59

"do you think you have actually persuaded a single person on her who might have voted for Corbyn to change his or her mind and vote for Smith?"

Well, reading exchanges on here (and elsewhere) have persuaded me not to vote Labour, because it seems a total shambles. My vote doesn't matter anyway, but it might if I move to a marginal constituency.

durhamjen Mon 19-Sept-16 10:43:55

You mean you don't want to liberalise Labour, daphne?

Should be interesting. 7.25 this evening, Channel 4.

Anniebach Mon 19-Sept-16 11:01:43

Easy to suggest looking for solutions not problems, if one's homes was infested with vermin one could not dismiss the problems

Anniebach Mon 19-Sept-16 11:04:42

Ana, Corbyn said in a radio interview this morning he attends rallies around the country and sees so many familiar faces where ever he goes, perhaps he doesn't know they same familiar faces are bused in

Anniebach Mon 19-Sept-16 11:09:52

It is a total shambles Daphne , but it is a total Corbyn- Momentum shambles .

After the wisdom shared here on who to vote into the shadow cabinet will all those momentum students spend their time pouring over the voting records of MP's? I doubt it.

durhamjen Mon 19-Sept-16 11:19:04

Nasty again, Annie. Calling the membership who do not agree with you vermin.

I read www.theyworkforyou.com quite regularly, Annie. I assume trisher does as well. I am just not going to tell you who I would vote for to only be shot down. You make your own mind up.

This is what Smith thinks should happen.

"If he was serious about trying to unify the party then he would taking serious the notion of going back to the traditional method we had of guaranteeing that their was some balance in the shadow Cabinet, and everybody felt in the party they had some representation, which was election through the PLP.

I am in favour of us having more democracy in the Labour Party, but I don’t think Jeremy and his team can get away with saying this is all about an olive branch, when really and truly it is about deepening the divisions he has created in the party.”

He thinks that the membership gets all the representation it needs through the PLP voting. That is so obviously untrue for those members who do not have a Labour MP. Does he think they don't matter?

durhamjen Mon 19-Sept-16 11:20:30

He's in favour of having more democracy in the party but doesn't trust the members to vote for the shadow cabinet.
Obviously has a different meaning of democracy to me.

durhamjen Mon 19-Sept-16 11:23:59

For a bit of balance.

Corbyn on mumsnet at 2 pm.
Why not gransnet as well, HQ?
Or have I missed the GN invitation to ask questions?

Ana Mon 19-Sept-16 13:32:42

He prefers younger women. Probably turned us down.

Anniebach Mon 19-Sept-16 14:19:00

Who would involve their children in politics, they will be brainwashed , his lust for adoration is frightening , the childrens movement is already being called trots tots

Anniebach Mon 19-Sept-16 14:49:43

He rarely eats biscuits because he is anti sugar but if forced he will choose shortbread , awwww, up goes the sale of shortbread as the cult buy him biccies

durhamjen Mon 19-Sept-16 15:19:23

Did you always have babysitters so you could be involved in Labour Party meetings, Annie? If so, you were lucky.
Quite often my husband would go to the house next door for a meeting, and I would be looking after a creche in our house.

You obviously haven't read the link. It answers that point of trotstots.

durhamjen Mon 19-Sept-16 15:21:16

And as the link said, sneering at Momentum kids shows why you are losing.

Anniebach Mon 19-Sept-16 15:55:25

Losing what ? The labour party isn't finished yet no matter how hard your momentum cult try to break it up. And unlike you I care for the survival of the Labour Party not the momentum party ,
