The 1972 Act that enshrined the EU law into UK law is to be repealed. The existing EU laws will remain and get repealed as necessary in future.

That will of course very much depend I assume on the negotiated settlement with the EU.
No other EU law will now enter UK law.

Up here in the North we say that people like Boris Johnson couldn't lie straight in bed.

And I wasn't aware that Eton selected on intelligence; thought it was just what you had in your (tax haven) bank account.

You have to pass the 13+ and an interview to get into Eton. There are only a certain number of places, so you have to be fairly bright and articulate. Some places are held back and reserved for scholarship boys (Kings Scholars) which is a much more difficult exam, (obviously!) Boris was one of these scholars, and academically considered extremely bright, much more so than D.C who was considered academically competent but not outstanding. DC's father would have had to have a deep pockets, not so Boris's as he was on a scholarship.

People do have their preconceptions, don't they?

Jalima Sun 16-Oct-16 19:43:45

They think that money can buy a good education but you have to pass certain criteria first, as in any selective school.

Shelters latest report about housing says that social housing is just as expensive as and in worse condition than private rented sector housing.

speye.wordpress.com/2016/10/17/2-in-every-3-social-housing-properties-are-not-homes/
There's a pdf on here to the full report.
I hope TMay takes notice of it, but I doubt it, despite what she said in her first speech.

Jalima Mon 17-Oct-16 15:36:44

I don't know how much social housing is to rent around here, but certainly what is owned by the council near DS's ex-council house is very well maintained.

durhamjen Mon 17-Oct-16 15:42:15

The report is about social housing in the UK.
Doesn't it matter that social housing in other parts of the country are not up to the standards it should be?

rosesarered Mon 17-Oct-16 20:02:20

confused

durhamjen Mon 17-Oct-16 22:11:46

What are you confused about this time roses? You are so easily confused.

Anya Mon 17-Oct-16 22:32:11

Such a childish comment.

petra Mon 17-Oct-16 22:40:45

It's playground stuff, so embarrassing that a grown 'educated'? woman talks in these terms. There's even worse on another thread.

durhamjen Mon 17-Oct-16 22:50:28

What's the point of just putting a confused face on?
It would be better if roses told us what she is confused about, don't you agree? Then she could be enlightened.
Unless she can't explain what she means.
Does she need two others to support her? Can't she speak for herself?

rosesarered Mon 17-Oct-16 22:51:24

Yes, both childish and rude at the same time djen
Your post states 'the report is about social housing in the UK, doesn't it matter that social housing in other parts of the country are not up to the standards they should be'
Jalima never said that it didn't matter, just that she knew some well maintained social housing.

durhamjen Mon 17-Oct-16 22:51:49

By the way, I don't find anything to do with homelessness and bad housing conditions childish.

rosesarered Mon 17-Oct-16 22:52:31

Your posts just get worse and worse!

mumofmadboys Mon 17-Oct-16 22:56:44

Aaaargh!!!

Eloethan Tue 18-Oct-16 01:17:43

thatbags I think you are taking a rather lofty tone in pronouncing that debate on Gransnet is of a poor standard.

You seem to be suggesting that your voice (and perhaps a few other people with whom you agree) is one of rational neutrality but "narrow minded activists" (shorthand for people with whom you disagree) can be disregarded because they are biased. The links you provide reflect your own views, in the same way that the links durhamjen and others provide reflect their point of view.

Given that you started one thread (relating to the referendum result): "As the hysterical left weep into their lattes" (or something to that effect), this did not suggest you sought a reasoned and respectful debate on the issue.

A lot of people felt very torn about how they should vote re the EU. I did, and I expressed my confusion and indecision on Gransnet. Given those reservations, I would feel it rather dishonest to throw myself wholeheartedly behind a public campaign for either side. Boris Johnson's contributions to the TV debate were, I thought, not at all impressive and his call to the audience to vote for "Independence Day" was, I think, more akin to the most simplistic sort of jingoism than thoughtful debate.

Conservatives are now the enemy of the people, written by someone who votes neither Tory nor Labour.

MaizieD Fri 21-Oct-16 12:49:32

Nodding in agreement with much of what the blogger says, though I think his last sentence would raise a lot of people's hackles.

granjura Fri 21-Oct-16 12:59:28

Excellent post Eloethan, thank you.

Oh dear, "who's "she"? The cat's mother?" As my late mother used to say.
Couldn't you have addressed roses directly, dj? Speaking about somebody in the third person sounds suspiciously like ganging up.
Or is it let's all pick on rosesarered week. hmm

durhamjen Fri 21-Oct-16 13:54:53

Sorry, daphne.

It would be better if roses told us....gives her name, does it not? Roses still hasn't explained what she meant, and she's had four days to do so.
Why are you getting so het up about it now?
Trying to deflect again?

Ana Fri 21-Oct-16 14:02:33

rosses did explain what she meant, in her post of 22.51 on Monday.

DaphneBroon Fri 21-Oct-16 14:49:13

What does dj mean by "trying to deflect again"?
Or what do you mean, "trying to deflect again" DJ?
Which of the previous questions sounds more or less hostile, I wonder? hmm
I am not aware of making a habit of attempted deflection, so don't bother answering if you CBA . Just saying.

Jalima Fri 21-Oct-16 14:53:39

Jalima never said that it didn't matter, just that she knew some well maintained social housing.
I can only tell it as it is in this area, cannot go marching around the countryside inspecting social housing for defects, particularly with a leg in plaster.
