Well this could be interesting.

Rosie Winterton sacked from Chief Whips position and Nick Brown back in the Cabinet again. Baroness Shami Chakrabarti has done very well since joining Labour she is now Shadow Attorney General and Dianne Abbot Shadow Home Secretary, Dawn Butler Shadow Minority Ethnic Communities, Sarah Champion Shadow Women and Equalities Minister and Jo Stevens Shadow Secretary of State for Wales.

It will be interesting to see if any who signed 'No Confidence' in Corbyn can/will be in Corbyn's reshuffled Cabinet Team. Time for 'Unity'?

@Jalima

That is absolute nonsense! I don't have a lot of time for Jeremy Corbyn, but claiming he does not want an academic education for anyone is absolute rubbish. I went to an academic direct grant school and my children had an education just as academic and aspirational as I did. Comprehensives can provide that kind of education - they don't need hundreds of years of history and tradition to do it.

Jalima Fri 07-Oct-16 14:32:28

He did a lot of good work in this town and round about and he earned, yes earned, lots of respect for all his hard work.
Yorkshiregel I would be interested to know what Jeremy Corbyn's 'good works' were round and about his home town as I thought he left to go to Polytechnic at the age of 18.
I don't remember, but then I am a just a bit older then Jeremy.

Jalima Fri 07-Oct-16 14:35:39

That is absolute nonsense!
You must have read something that wasn't there ddil - are you confused?

I said that Jeremy Corbyn does not want grammar schools like the one that he went to, or the one he refused to allow his son to attend.

I said nothing whatsoever about not having an academic education at a comprehensive school, many do, and some, like Jeremy Corbyn, fail to achieve academic excellence at grammar schools or independent schools.

Twist and Shout

daphnedill Fri 07-Oct-16 14:38:05

Your words: "Mr Corbyn does not want that type of education to be available nowadays for anyone"

I don't think I'm hallucinating. hmm

Jalima Fri 07-Oct-16 14:53:03

"Mr Corbyn does not want that type of education to be available nowadays for anyone"

Exactly that - the type of education being Selective Education.

A Grammar School Education As Provided by Adams Grammar School In Newport, Shropshire, Which Has An Entrance Examination Which Some Children May Fail.

Is that clear enough?

Or did you not read the whole post, only bits of it? Or select certain bits for whatever reason?

Yes, we know your children were lucky enough to have an excellent, academic education; however what we should be aiming for is for every pupil to achieve to the utmost of their ability; however not all are suited to an academic education, it is foolish to claim otherwise, and a good comprehensive school should provide the best for all abilities.

I am not arguing against that. Nor am I saying that JC does not want that either, I am saying that HE DOES NOT WANT GRAMMAR SCHOOLS.

Or have I misunderstood his message as you seem to have misunderstood mine?

Anniebach Fri 07-Oct-16 14:54:17

Corbyn went to work in Jamaica when he was nineteen, when he came back he lived in London, he did attend a polytechnic there but didn't finish the course because he disagreed with the cariculum set by the tutors

Jalima Fri 07-Oct-16 14:56:01

I am still interested to know what good works he did for Newport confused

Unless it was his parents, they were politically active.

Jalima Fri 07-Oct-16 14:58:26

Corbyn left Adams with two A levels, both at grade E, and an enduring hatred of selective education.

durhamjen Fri 07-Oct-16 14:59:35

I don't understand Jalima. Corbyn does not want grammar schools. I don't want grammar schools.
We don't want them because you cannot have grammar schools and comprehensives.
What's wrong with that? Quite simple really.

Yorkshiregel Fri 07-Oct-16 15:09:01

daphnedill we also have a comprehensive school here in Newport and they got amazing results this year. It is all down to teachers in the end.

Precisely! Just what I said too.

Nor faith schools.

Yorkshiregel Fri 07-Oct-16 15:15:02

Am I the only person on this thread who does not like Mr Corbyn's choice of Cabinet members? Diana Abbot being made Shadow Home Secretary for one example. She starts a sentence and then forgets what she started out to say.

Anya Fri 07-Oct-16 15:18:32

Well we all do that Yorkshire .. but then it doesn't matter as I'm not in a position of power....but then neither is DA nor likely to be at this rate...I'm rambling aren't I ....just like her confused

Yorkshiregel Fri 07-Oct-16 15:18:34

I am beginning to realise how fortunate children in Newport Shropshire really are. We have several nurseries and pre-schools, state jnr schools, private schools, private prep schools, a girl's academy/high school, a comprehensive school, a grammar school and even a fantastic agricultural university all in the same town.

Jalima Fri 07-Oct-16 15:20:26

And it is still a small and pleasant town I expect

I must pay another visit next time I am up that way. smile

Yorkshiregel Fri 07-Oct-16 15:21:48

Exactly, I do it myself sometimes, but I am not in Government so it doesn't matter. She is and does not give a good impression when she goes rambling off on other topics. You are left with the feeling of 'what is she on about now?' Not good for a politician who is representing her Party/Country.

Jalima Fri 07-Oct-16 15:24:06

I have a dear friend who rambles a bit like that, I am fond of her but she leaves me very confused grin

Not that I am in any way fond of DA, although I used to quite enjoy watching her and Michael Portillo together on that Andrew thingy programme after Question Time.

I'm ramblling now too .... it must be catching

Yorkshiregel Fri 07-Oct-16 15:28:06

It is getting better all the time Jalima although we have lost the charming little shops in St Mary street. We are in the process of increasing the housing in the town at the moment so lots of houses being built for newcomers and children of the town as well. We had a massive turnout for the Olympic Flame parade, the town was heaving, we also celebrate St George's Day too and it makes your heart swell with pride on Remembrance Day when the school CCF and the ATC march ahead of the procession down the High Street to the Church. Flags everywhere! It may be a small town, but even Queen Victoria paid us a visit.

Anniebach Fri 07-Oct-16 15:29:08

Abbot recently gave an interview , sorry cannot remember in which country, she said she had hosted a successful political programme for many years , the programme was ? The Andrew Neil programme after Newsnight ! He was rather amused

durhamjen Fri 07-Oct-16 15:29:44

Sorry, yorkshiregel, you can't have all those other schools AND a comprehensive school. It's just not possible.

Yorkshiregel Fri 07-Oct-16 15:36:35

www.allaboutnewport.co.uk/newport-shropshire/

Jalima Fri 07-Oct-16 15:36:46

I don't really see why not though durhamjen because some of the population may not agree with selective and private education so pupils at the comprehensive school may be fully comprehensive.
we also have a comprehensive school here in Newport and they got amazing results this year. It is all down to teachers in the end.

It doesn't follow that everyone puts their child in for the 11+ or private education.
With such a small population the schools must attract pupils from a very wide area to be viable.

Just because you call it a comprehensive doesn't mean it is one. The clue is in the meaning of the word
Comprehensive-relating to or denoting a system of secondary education in which children of all abilities from a particular area are educated in one school.
A grammar school means some children aren't there, calling it a comprehensive is a misnomer.

Jalima Fri 07-Oct-16 15:56:33

Whatever it is, some pupils got outstanding results.

And presumably, as a comprehensive, they geared the education to the needs of all.
