As I made a mistake and posted in 'Brexit, power to the people' - here is Brexit4.

I know some of you don't like 'experts' or their opinions, but I do urge all to listen to this man again, from Liverpool University, calmly and expertly explaining what the single market is, and how it does work

I understand from my EU translator friends that debates and negogiations always have translation available. Obviously the civil servants have to have language skills.

durhamjen Sat 22-Oct-16 14:45:34

That's why it took so long for the UK to choose their last senior civil servant for the EU - finding someone with appropriate language skills.

About CETA.

Lots of explanation about it on the waronwant website.
You can still sign up to try and stop it on that website.

Greenpeace agree about democracy and TTIP and CETA.

Do you think Theresa May would dare do this?

whitewave Sat 22-Oct-16 15:58:45

God knows! I am beginning to think anything is possible given this trio of useless Brexiters.

daphnedill Sat 22-Oct-16 16:24:51

Wayhay! Isn't democracy wonderful? First, change constituencies to give an inbuilt majority, then drag up something called the 'royal prerogative', even though the monarchy hasn't had any real power for centuries. When all else fails, when the second chamber (even if it is an anachronism) and other assorted Tories threaten to revolt, flood them with cronies. Wow! And there are still people who think putting a cross in a box after being fed a load of lies is all there is to democracy!

Woe to the people! hmm

PS. And if all that doesn't work, maybe Boris could be sent off to buy the water cannons back!

durhamjen Sat 22-Oct-16 16:45:51

Has he sold them? Which idiots bought them?

The UKs biggest banks are preparing to relocate to the EU early next year as a result of the fears over the Brexit negotiations.

The passporting rights are under severe danger because of the threat of hard Brexit.

Oh what a bloody mess, and to think who we've got doing the negotiations. What a shower they are.

Welshwife Sun 23-Oct-16 10:04:39

When they said they were likely to have to do this before the vote it was all more 'scaremongering'.

durhamjen Sun 23-Oct-16 11:06:36

Scaremongering? I'm scared.

In the meantime, the Swiss Government has had to accept on Wednesday, after 2 years of discussion since the Feb. 2014 popular vote to limit immigration- that NO compromise will be agreed with the EU. They will have to make a clear choice - get out altogether or accept free movement of people. They have until Feb next year to make the final decision.

Swiss industry and tourism is already suffering greatly due to the very high value of the Swiss Franc compared to the Euro and £ - and losing access to the European market altogether would be a disaster.

Déjà vu - tragically. And unlike in the UK, the referendum is binding. Most experts are now saying a Referendum that is in total contradiction with Treaties in place should have never been allowed to go to the vote.

granjura Sun 23-Oct-16 11:11:09

So yes, I am scared too. As we are personally caught in a double whammy effect. I know some find it hilarious here - but I would like to know how you would feel if you loss 60% of your income (not investments, etc, just your pension) in a few years, through no fault of your own - knowing that it is likely to get even worse.

granjura Sun 23-Oct-16 11:12:38

Never been a great fan of Graham Norton- but did anyone see the latest interview he did about Brexit. How he feels sorry for those who voted to leave by being fed a pack of lies - and for young people now having all the doors to the world closed by over 60s?

whitewave Sun 23-Oct-16 11:19:53

Surely something can put the breaks on this out of control train? I am praying that the courts will rule in favour of parliament so that people with a brain can help to help decide our future, otherwise to put it bluntly I am shit scared of the outcome given the crew we have at the moment.

whitewave Sun 23-Oct-16 11:20:08

Brakes!!

Those who voted for Brexit have been repeatedly said to be ignorant, uneducated fools,, xenophobic, racist, over 60 year olds who have failed the younger generation and voted in their millions because of their stupidity to understand what the actual effects of Brexit could mean. Immigration was all they were bothered about the racist idiots.

We have been discussing the Swiss vote, which also put's Switzerland on a collision course with the EU. Is there the same name calling, belittling of voters occurring in Switzerland who have basically voted in a similar way to the UK, namely to control immigration numbers coming into Switzerland knowing it would create difficulties with the EU, or were they all of the above names applied to the UK voters too? If not , why not?

Whilst Switzerland is not a member of the European Union and the UK is it still comes down to the EU Commission being prepared to cast aside, let go of countries who will not accept Free Movement Of People over Trade and Commerce.

The European Commission cannot be serious about trade and commerce , it is indoctrinated in the enshrinement of Ever Closer Union, Federal Europe and it knows it is coming under more and more pressure and being challenged by the people.

I believe the EU Commission will have to take a ,'cut off all our noses' stance as they are well aware the up and coming elections in France, Italy and Germany will have to be held with a back drop of 'Project Fear' or it will /could well lose it's demonancy over sovereignty.

whitewave Sun 23-Oct-16 12:06:15

I have never known such a divided and leaky government.

I trust that they are now beginning to realise that negotiations will not be the piece of cake that the Brexters sold the voter pre the referendum. Canada has gone pearshaped after 7 years as has Switzerland.

durhamjen Sun 23-Oct-16 12:13:58

Demonancy?

Most of us do not know much about Switzerland. We read whay granjura says as she lives there and seems quite intelligent enough to know what is happening both there and here.

Why do we need to compare Switzerland with the UK?
Many people who voted for Brexit have said they are xenophobic and racist. They do not want foreigners here. Are you denying that has been said?

Ana Sun 23-Oct-16 12:18:33

I haven't heard one single person who voted for Brexit say they are xenophobic and racist.

granjura Sun 23-Oct-16 12:35:51

Yes Pogs, same 'name calling' if you want to put it this way. Why? Because the vote was called for by the SVP/UDC party, which is more or less the equivalent to UKIP and have run racist and xenophobic campaigns again and again. And because there is also a clear age and regional divide represented in the vote (eg small rural conservative German speaking areas 'versus' more open, pro Europe French speaking areas) and also because the vote was VERY close, just like the UK referendum.

And also because the young are the ones who will be the victims - and yet, as in the UK, the ones who too often didn't bother to vote, and who could have made all the difference.

As said, déjà vu - as what is happening now in the UK, the divisions- have all happened here 2 years before.

durhamjen Sun 23-Oct-16 12:51:02

Okay, Ana, they don't say they are xenophobic. They just make xenophobic and racist statements.
They probably do not know the word xenophobia. They certainly know they are being racist.

MaizieD Sun 23-Oct-16 12:54:04

Those who voted for Brexit have been repeatedly said to be ignorant, uneducated fools,

Statistically, POGS that is kind of true (though I wouldn't put it in quite those terms). Propensity to vote leave or remain was significantly correlated with level of education.

Ana Sun 23-Oct-16 13:06:51

How do you know they 'certainly know they are being racist' if they're all so thick and uneducated?

Tegan Sun 23-Oct-16 13:23:53

Bank thingy isn't anything to worry about. It's in The Observer so obviously isn't true...just part of 'project fear'....better to stick with 'the unbiased facts' from The Telegraph and The Sun....

whitewave Sun 23-Oct-16 13:47:06

On the BBC as well so even the BBC is clearly unable to tell the truth.

By the way another lie - smaller banks are moving before Christmas. 40+% of out overseas earnings are from the financial services. Not to worry say the idiot Brexiters we will sort it.

Unemployment beginning to rise and growth figures are due out this week and widely expected to show a slowing down of the UK economy.

We told you so!!!!! Don't anyone dare tell me I'm being a moaner or gloom and doom. I am so cross at the lies told and the path the UK is treading since the referendum.

We have historically be proud of our openness, inclusivity and tolerance. What I am hearing on the television the radio and media is shocking and goodness knows what the world is thinking.
