Trump. How could all those people vote for him?
Ochone ochone (Gaelic lamentation)

GranVee Wed 09-Nov-16 10:15:50

I agree with you Valerie1949.

VIOLETTE Wed 09-Nov-16 10:16:44

Agree with blinko ....wonder how long it will be before the Americans who voted for that idiotic poser are going to regret it ? Remember people voted for Hitler for the same reasons ...disinchantment with the way things were going for them, and along comes someone who promises them the earth, history repeating itself ...only this time much much worse !

Tegan Wed 09-Nov-16 10:17:00

I woke up in the early hours to let the dog out and realised then the way the election was going. Went back to bed and woke up, hoping it was all a bad dream [it was like referendum night all over again]. Now in shock and disbelief. I understand many Americans are already making enquiries about moving to Canada. All we need now is the continuation of the rise of the far right in Europe. Heaven help anyone in America who is black, Hispanic, disabled, sick, unemployed, female; old will be next. I can't bear seeing/hearing the man [along with his friend Farage] so, cowardly as it may be, my radio and tv will be switched off as much as possible for the next few years. Stop the world, I want to get off!

Where did the idea that Trump is a successful business man come from? He inherited a huge fortune, and has during his business career declared bankruptcy 4 times, failed to pay many of the small businesses who supplied services and goods, and not paid taxes. Watch out America, someone needs to lock up the treasury before he gets his hands on it!
Seriously upset, if I go back to bed can I wake up from this nightmare?

Gaggi3 Wed 09-Nov-16 10:18:18

It has tended to be the good guys who are assassinated - Lincoln, Kennedy, Indira Gandhi, Benazir Bhutto.
The Canadian Immigration website has crashed several times with the volume of enquiries.
Glad I was happy yesterday.

I think it's too early for hysterics. Let's see what he does.

I think the democrats just picked the wrong candidate and with anyone else than Hilary Clinton they'd probably have won.

Anniebach Wed 09-Nov-16 10:20:28

This little island will have to suck up to trump, we have cut off from Europe . Wait for the state visit of president Trump

Rhinestone Wed 09-Nov-16 10:24:32

I'm just sick today by what my country has done. Uneducated people who believed everything the hate monger said makes me embarrassed to be an American. Yes Hillary had some corporate corruption and neither of them was my pick originally in the primaries. But Hitler started the same way with hate and fear and the fear took over . ( Trumps parents were not KKK though ) People were dissatisfied with politics and how the rich corporations were involved in politics. But never in all my years on this earth have I seen such hate, racism, homophobia, misogyny and bullying by a candidate for president. How do I explain that to the grandkids? I am ready to leave my country for I fear what can happen next.

I bet Putin is well chuffed his mate is now president!! well America you made your bed now you must lay on it and Nigel must be cock-a-hoop too

Jalima Wed 09-Nov-16 10:27:00

whitewave your post 07:19 I think that is what has happened.

DB that picture was on my FB page when I looked this morning, I was going to try to link it.

One slight glimmer of hope though - the new First Lady was not American born, could it mean a lot of his rhetoric is all lies bluff?

I know someone said that they wished they would not bring God into it, and I am not particularly religious - but God help us all

Linnie Wed 09-Nov-16 10:28:45

Me too suzied. Enjoying ITV2 this a.m. Scared to put CBeebies on in case Trumpton onshock

granjura Wed 09-Nov-16 10:31:50

Already know on is going to jump on my back from saying so - but we both feel very depressed, sad adn scared this morning- and exhausted too.

We've been through all the Saga of the Referendum on limiting immigration here in Switzerland- with the divisions and total mess that ensued over the past 2 years with no solution ahead. Then Brexit - well don't need to explain about that one.

And today the worst possible...

All our white middle-class friends in the USA have been e-mailing and FBing to ask how they can move out asap - they just can't fathom living in the USA from today.

But worse, there are whole families and communities that woke up this morning really scared for their future, blacks and hispanics who are good, hard working citizens- striving for a better future - and who now just don't know what will happen. Young children terrified of going to school today ...

We truly (DH and myself) feel heart broken, sick and totally - yes- depressed sad

Badenkate Wed 09-Nov-16 10:32:40

I think many of us on here know how you feel Rhinestone, we have gone through the same emotions ourselves after Brexit. You start to wonder where the country you thought you knew has gone. It is inevitable that people want change, but what is frightening is what the views of those who are in the forefront of that change tell us about our society and its priorities.

granjura Wed 09-Nov-16 10:33:31

Today all the expats in Switzerland are talking about their nuclear bunkers in the house. They used to think it is hilarious- but they will spend this week-end emptying the skis and bicycles, wine and beer - and stock up with tins and water, etc sad

Ruth1958 Wed 09-Nov-16 10:34:07

That's what a democracy is all about! The Clintons and Bush families reigned for 32 years...the world is turning anti establishment. We might not like the uncertainty but that's life!

trisher Wed 09-Nov-16 10:34:58

Jalima the only idea that can come from the background of the First Lady is that women immigrants will be welcomed as long as they are attractive and willing to screw rich old men.

Jalima Wed 09-Nov-16 10:35:11

Happy birthday Jane10 wine - that's a medicinal brandy btw
flowers

Beammeupscottie Wed 09-Nov-16 10:35:11

Annie, You are right. The UK always looks West to America feeling more akin to the Country who uses our language and grew from our pioneers. Our Politicians will talk to the President of the USA, irrespective of who he is and the Queen will shake hands with him.

Ruth1958 Wed 09-Nov-16 10:35:47

I agree...the hysterical media leaks out to the hysterical people....just calm down!

rosesarered Wed 09-Nov-16 10:36:53

Of course, that's politics and diplomacy.

Ruth1958 Wed 09-Nov-16 10:37:25

Get a grip!

rosesarered Wed 09-Nov-16 10:38:31

Yes, far too early for hysteria and talk of nuclear bunkers.

Jalima Wed 09-Nov-16 10:39:56

trisher I don't know whether to grin or shock
But it's true and I feel even more queasy at the thought

AmMaz Wed 09-Nov-16 10:42:14

BlueBelle, that's an awful lot of people you're damning and whom you're dismissing as inferior.

granjura Wed 09-Nov-16 10:42:15

Even Trump knew it:

IF I WERE TO RUN I'D RUN AS REPUBLICAN. THEY ARE THE DUMBEST GROUP OF VOTERS IN THE COUNTRY. THEY BELIEVE ANYTHING ON FOX NEWS. ICOULD LIE AND THEY'D STILL EAT IT UP. I BET MY NUMBERS WOULD BE TERRIFIC.

PEOPLE MAG 1998.

Ruth1958 - I'll get a grip if you take a running jump. This is as polite I can remain- and no, I am not histerical at all- but I have eyes to see, and am not the only one.

Who are you to tell us that the world has not turned overnight into a much more dangerous place- with Putin, Kim Jung and now Trump - with their fingers on the nuclear buttons.
