First blood to Trump

Trump will be inaugurated in 16 days time. Ford has recognised this new era.

How will his Junta of advisors deal with the political world?

Will Trump continue to govern by twitter?

Will his erratic behaviour stop?

Will he be less muddled in his thinking?

What will happen to NATO and article 5?

Will the world survive his environmental policy - such that it is?

Will America be able to contain him?

We'll see.

I have 12 years of education until age 18, then university as well. All whilst I lived in the US as a US citizen. smile

stillaliveandkicking Sat 21-Jan-17 17:32:55

And?

And you do? you know what is fed.

come on, gel...keep up! grin

I do know that you should never underestimate the actual working class people who make the wheels of a country turn. As Im sure two governments have just found out.

Barry 'Bee' Benson
Unfortunately, the script can be found online and a quick search proves the quote isn’t in the movie at all.

It's very funny nonetheless!!

stillaliveandkicking Sat 21-Jan-17 17:45:52

Keep up with what? what's printed? really. I keep up with my gut feelings and what's actually going on around me, that I actually "see". I am not and never would confess to be an arm chair politician.

Ana Sat 21-Jan-17 17:46:13

Shame - some people took that absolutely seriously Jalima! grin

Jalima Sat 21-Jan-17 17:46:41

now they are going to see just how powerless the office of the president actually is.
So wtflip is everyone getting so worked up about?

We know that Obama could not push through many of the things he wanted to do so presumably Trump will not be able to fulfil his promises either.

Jalima Sat 21-Jan-17 17:47:28

Sorry, have I spoilt everyone's fun?

I must remember not to be a party pooper in future

I would agree that the working class are or have been pivotal in the economic growth, but I think I would now argue that the old established and labour industries like mining, car manufacturing have been superseded by new technology and robots do many of these jobs previously carried out by the working classes. We have/are moving into the knowledge era and people with a higher level of education are in more demand. People like Trump and the extreme right wing are selling the working classes a line and promising them things which they can never deliver.

Globalization is moving on, nationalism is back to future

stillaliveandkicking Sat 21-Jan-17 17:52:40

So what whitewave? Working class can also use a computer you know! Working class can actually converse. Working class is not just about "manual labour" you know.

whitewave Sat 21-Jan-17 17:57:22

But I was addressing Trumps rhetoric, when he talks about the coal industry and car industry.

Mair Sat 21-Jan-17 17:59:29

the old established and labour industries like mining, car manufacturing have been superseded by new technology and robots do many of these jobs previously carried out by the working classes.

Not as much as you think although its undoubtedly how things are going. The countries that will successfully produce cars in the future though will not be those that have allowed their industries to die, but those that have protected their industries during the transition.

Non democratic societies like China are well placed to do this.

stillaliveandkicking Sat 21-Jan-17 18:05:25

Industry changes as do demands. I know what he meant when he said these things, sadly most just want things to stay the same instead of embracing what this could actually mean. Life for me over the last 10 years became sadder and sadder. I watched many a working class good business go under due to the influx of immigrants doing jobs cheaper and cheaper whilst living 10 a room and sending all their earnings back to where-ever. This is what really has happened. Or are you so bloody blinkered. The living wage has plummeted to an all time low, zero hour contracts have become the norm. Do you not get it?

Mair Sat 21-Jan-17 18:19:53

Middle class socialists are far more focused on their obsession with 'race' stillalive than with the concerns of the British working class.
That is soooo 1970s! They have new and more exotic pet projects now!

whitewave Sat 21-Jan-17 18:20:09

No alive I'm not bloody blinkered as you so elegantly put it. I fully understand the issues that caused people to vote as they did and absolutely understand the frustration behind it. But my argument on the globalization thread is that in order to mitigate against the challenges of globalization these can only be done by nation staescooperating to prevent global industry running amok as it were. A nation trying to act alone will only be successful short term.

stillaliveandkicking Sat 21-Jan-17 18:21:02

grin at Mair.

varian Sat 21-Jan-17 18:27:27

It is a sad state of affairs that the same disadvantaged people who were fooled into voting Leave are the most likely to suffer when the EU money is no longer availble to help Wales, Cornwall and the Northeast of England.

The poor ex-steel workers in the US "rustbelt" should have asked Trump why he bought the steel for his buildings from China before they decided to trust a bigoted billionaire who pays no income tax because so many of his businesses have gone bust.

As Trump would tweet - sad

stillaliveandkicking Sat 21-Jan-17 18:32:17

Im not a fool varian and the money sent to the EU will now be put to better use. Its time for change no matter what that brings and if I were you I'd stop thinking the working class are such and try to embrace what this will bring.

stillaliveandkicking Sat 21-Jan-17 18:37:52

Globalisation? what on earth does that really mean? I'd rather work from a homefront point of view personally, as would any other country. You look after your own then help others not the other way around.

mcem Sat 21-Jan-17 18:40:39

For the foreseeable future a huge amount will be spent on disentangling the UK as a result of Brexit. Can't see beyond that stage yet but looking forward to seeing all that promised cash going into the NHS.
That was one reason for voting Brexit, wasn't it?

Ana Sat 21-Jan-17 18:41:49

Only for the most gullible. I'm amazed anyone actually believed that sign on the bus...hmm

mcem Sat 21-Jan-17 18:44:48

1. The discussion is actually about the meaning of 'globalisation'.
2. How can you claim to be a country????
3. The hackneyed old concept that charity begins at home BUT it doesn't have to end there.

mcem Sat 21-Jan-17 18:46:00

But Ana it became clear that many (sadly) did!
