What I am saying is admiring a man in shorts is not sexual sbuse, grabbing a woman's genitals is sexual sbuse, it is against the law to sexually abuse . I am also saying you must feel very insecure in your ability to keep a man with you if you believe that if you asked your partner not to touch you inapproiately he would leave , you must either know very unpleasant men or have very low self esteem and/or self respect

Lovely line on the Sky News who commenting on Trump's visit to the CIA. It was, so they said "a test of his ability to mend fences". Listening to him is was, as far as I could tell a test of how many lies he could tell without anyone commenting that he is a liar.

Well done Rinouchka and I also applaud all those marching today. I agree that the protest needs to continue to be made. These things are slow - and I wonder how those of us who cannot march can help as I certainly don't want to join those who say nothing in the face of this this absurd little man with the ridiculous hair.

It really annoys me just as much as anything else. women are not hopeless creatures that are still under some sort of cosh that need to rally against men. we have another woman prime minister. If anything i think you're making arses of yourselves now. women wanted to have careers and be mothers, we have that. women have gone too far and an equal balance needs to be found.

Your husband or partner putting his hand in your lap "inappropriately" is hardly the same thing as an aggressive, powerful man with whom you have no intimate relationship behaving like that. I don't know what you mean by "speak to you in a "bloke" manner". If you mean being coarse and disrespectful, I would hazard a guess that many women on here have partners who would have no wish to, and who do not, speak to them in such a way.

As for the original post - as he has already been elected it will make no difference and it may be that he is so thick-skinned that it will have no impact on his behaviour in the future. But I still think it is important for people - women and men - to join together to express their dismay at such a man being elected, if only to, as it were, stand up and be counted.

I constantly hear.. He isn't doing this that and the other. i say, did you tell him, they say, well no. really? someone will continue to do something unless you tell them that isn't what you want.

I never cease to be amazed by women who take their (not quite yet) equal rights for granted without acknowledging that these rights did not appear from the ether as a gift from the gods, but had to be fought for at evey turn. Yes there were Marches, other protests, civil disobedience, women being forcefed and jailed for wearing trousers. I have been a radical feminist my whole life and sometimes thought we had taken great strides forward on equalities issues. I could not march today but 4 of my good friends were marching in Edinburgh to protest at this giant leap backwards in handing the most powerful job in the world to a 'man' (to give him that name is to insult all the decent men in the world) who does not take NO for an answer. Indeed he does not even ask the question! A father who appoints his SONS and SILs to government positions and hands his business interests into their control while describing his daughters in terms of their sexual attraction. A regular Guy? Not in my world.

This has been an interesting thread if only to give us some idea of what someone who supports Trump is like.

I didn't see the march so much as against absurd little man with the ridiculous hair but more against what he stands for. We need to make our government aware of where we stand on what he has said as there may come a point where they have to stand up for our principles.

That marches and protests will not precipitate immediate change is obvious and irrelevant. However, tacit agreement is what this is about. If no one complains about something then it is assumed by more or less everybody that it's all okay. Women across the world – not just in the US and UK – have stood up to be counted. Nobody, nobody, nobody may now assume tacit agreement!

mcem. I agree with you. It's bad enough having to listen to drunks without having to translate their blogs into understandable English.

What I don't get is why, when the stats are broken down (as reported by CNN), a majority of the white women who voted, voted for Trump. What was he saying that appealed to them? I'm presuming the sexist stuff didn't, so what was it?

Or was it nothing he said or stood for but dislike of what the other candidate said/stood for?

I don't really understand either, thatbags. I asked a couple of American friends and their conclusion was that:

a) American mid West women want to be like Dolly Parton and make their man happy with apple pie and sex;
and/or
b) They were jealous of another woman.

I'm still not much the wiser.
