Paul Nuttell is according to the poles is 10% ahead in the Stoke bi-election, so I thought I would look at some of his beliefs. I was astounded at how similar they are to Trumps.

1. Privatisation of the NHS - this has been taken from his website because he needs the votes. Privatisation of the NHS doesn't attract votes.

2. Wants a referendum to vote on restricting woman's rights. He is anti-abortion, and believes that there should be a ban on adverts for family planning and abortion.

3. Burka ban. In all public buildings.

4. Against banning discrimination against gays.

5. So he believes in placing restrictions on Muslim belief/culture, but is against any restriction to Christian beliefs.

6. Thinks sexist comment are OK, and against placing restrictions on these type of comments.

No wonder he was so thrilled when Trump won the election.

Don't be ridiculous, Annie. The headline isn't mine. All three are mentioned in the link.
NHS is on another thread.
Do you believe Nuttall about the NHS? The man who wants to privatise it?

durhamjen Sat 18-Feb-17 00:32:09

This is strange. Theresa May has written to the constituents of Stoke, telling them that the only candidate who voted for Brexit is the Tory. She said that both Labour MPs in Stoke voted against the Brexit bill - but it's not true. They both voted with the whip on the third reading.

Do you think she will be asked to write another letter, telling them she lied, just like Paul Nuttall?

daphnedill Sat 18-Feb-17 00:41:00

I read that. Ruth Smeeth (one of the other Stoke MPs) has written a formal complaint to May. Rumour is that the Conservatives haven't really being trying very hard in Stoke, because they would prefer UKIP to win. My money is still on for the Conservatives to win Copeland.

Doesn't he realise that the national dish is now Chicken Tikka? I suppose that wouldn't sit well with some of his supporters, but only Fish & Chips VAT free? Our chip shop does a roaring trade in Sausage and chips as well. It's going to make their lives very difficult (Not to mention the mushy peas problem)
Apologies in advance for focussing on the unimportant, but sometimes you need to laugh at the whole thing.

daphnedill Sat 18-Feb-17 10:56:21

Hmm! Apparently Nuttall claimed to be on the board of the North West Training Council - but (you guessed it) he wasn't. I wonder who he'll blame for that one!

A bad Bootle meff indeed!

daphnedill Sat 18-Feb-17 11:00:08

It's being reported that Ruth Smeeth and Rob Flello (the other two Stoke MPs) are seeking legal advice.

POGS Sat 18-Feb-17 12:51:25

I'm very surprised posts are still talking about the Stoke-On-Trent by-election!

I thought there was a consensus this thread was not about Stoke-On-Trent.

Yes I am being sarcastic.

JessM Sat 18-Feb-17 12:57:17

What are they seeking legal advice about daphnedill. Am I being dense?

durhamjen Sat 18-Feb-17 12:57:24

Paul Nuttall doesn't realise that anything on the internet is traceable. I wonder who he is blaming for that, daphne. He never said it, obviously.
I'd love to see the comments on his website after that.

daphnedill Sat 18-Feb-17 13:06:06

In that case annie people like you need to tell them they have nothing to fear. If Labour decides to become UKIP lite, they're finished. They're already losing some of their younger voters, particularly on university campuses, who tend to be pro-Remain, socially liberal and regard old style Labour voters as reactionary.

durhamjen Sat 18-Feb-17 13:09:52

I think the Green Party candidates should win both by-elections. Only ones who haven't said anything daft so far.

I notice one of the independents has been arrested by the police and had her phone and copmuters taken away by the police. Something to do with racism.

durhamjen Sat 18-Feb-17 13:10:20

Copmuters? What are they?

daphnedill Sat 18-Feb-17 13:14:05

Nuttall hasn't had a new lie uncovered for at least six hours and the sun is shining, so I think I'll go and do some garden pottering.

rosesarered Sat 18-Feb-17 13:17:56

grin POGS yes, it's all about Stoke now ( just don't mention the shortcomings of the Labour MP hoping to win there.)

You are all very lucky having a fish and chip shop at all ( with or without VAT)

rosesarered Sat 18-Feb-17 13:19:07

I may have a flutter on Nuttall winning Stoke ( why not live dangerously...it's only a tenner.)

daphnedill Sat 18-Feb-17 13:25:11

If you wait a few days, the odds will be better. Nuttall is becoming more of an outsider every day (Ladbrokes).

Wait until somebody discovers he didn't score the winning goal in the 1966 World Cup!

POGS Sat 18-Feb-17 13:31:58

rosesarered.

As some say 'Different day, different dollar' others might call it 'Do as I say not Do as I do'. Hmm

Hey ho

Juliette Sat 18-Feb-17 16:41:26

Save your money rosesared, I live just on the border of the Stoke central constituency, can't see for one minute why Nuttall should take the seat, the labour gene will shine through and votes will go where they've gone for generations, well since 1950 anyway.

The electorate is interesting, Staffs University (ex Stoke Poly), UHNS the main hospital now aligned to Keele University, lots of student houses also trainee doctors living in the area. there is also an area housing mainly three generations of the Asian community.

The housing is very mixed, social and private, large Victorian and Edwardian houses now well and truly gentrified, those that haven't got students in residence anyway

Generally hard working people and by no means stupid, the traditional industries may have gone and you may not see 'Made in Stoke on Trent' on the bottom of your crockery anymore but in the main most have moved on and adapted accordingly.

If you can second guess where the votes may go after that brief description of the general area then don't put your money on Nuttall anytime soon.

Oh, and a brief aside to Dapne Brawn I know where Milton Keynes is, it's famous for something isn't it ? smile

Jalima Sat 18-Feb-17 16:48:35

Good to hear from someone on the ground, so to speak, Juliette smile

Jalima Sat 18-Feb-17 17:01:43

Stoke and Milton Keynes have at least one thing in common smile

rosesarered Sat 18-Feb-17 17:44:13

It was only a 'virtual' tenner Juliette I would not be about to lose a real one.grin
What is Milton Keynes famous for? Apart from model cows?

Jalima Sat 18-Feb-17 17:46:28

That's no fun at all rosesarered
You could be sitting there after the election saying 'I could have won quite a bit there'
or not

Ana Sat 18-Feb-17 17:46:49

Having dead straight roads?

daphnedill Sat 18-Feb-17 18:19:05

Who's Dapne Brawn? And what's Milton Keynes got to do with anything? Don't forget MK Dons, the indoor ski slope, the Open University and one of the most successful economies in the country. MK is nothing like Stoke.

POGS Sat 18-Feb-17 18:40:49

Juliette

If you are still watching can I ask you this as you are in the area.

Are the stories of 'dirty' campaigning going on true? Has it become a toxic environment?
